    HOW TO USE THIS MANUAL FOR SAFE OPERATION

    This system is primarily designed to help youreach your destination, and it also performsother functions as outlined in this manual.However, you, the driver, must use the systemsafely and properly. Information concerning roadconditions, traffic signs and the availability ofservices may not always be up-to-date. Thesystem is not a substitute for safe, proper andlegal driving.

    Before using the navigation system, please readthe following safety information. Always use thesystem as outlined in this manual.

    WARNING

    . When the driver wants to operatethe navigation system or use themulti-function controller, first parkthe vehicle in a safe location andset the parking brake. Operatingthe system while driving can dis-tract the driver and may result in aserious accident.

    . Do not rely on route guidancealone. Always be sure that alldriving maneuvers are legal andsafe in order to avoid accidents.

    . Do not disassemble or modify this

    system. If you do, it may result inaccidents, fire or electrical shock.

    . If you notice any foreign objects inthe system hardware, spill liquid onthe system or notice smoke or asmell coming from it, stop using thesystem immediately and contact aNISSAN dealer. Ignoring such con-ditions may lead to accidents, fireor electrical shock.

    CAUTION

    . Do not use this system if you noticeany malfunctions such as a frozenscreen or the lack of sound. Con-tinued use of the system may resultin accidents, fire or electrical shock.

    . Some states/provinces may havelaws limiting the use of videoscreens while driving. Use thissystem only where it is legal to doso.

    . Extreme temperature conditions[below −48F (−208C) and above1588F (708C)] could affect the per-formance of the system.

    NOTE:

    Do not keep the navigation system runningwith the engine stopped. Doing so maydischarge the vehicle battery. When youuse the navigation system, always keepthe engine running.

    CONTROL PANEL

    &1 :Push to display the current status of the airconditioner, radio, audio, vehicle information(driveable distance and average fuel econ-omy) and navigation systems.

    &2 :Push to enter a destination. Various methodsfor entering a destination are available.

    “4. Setting a destination”

    &3 :Push to access guidance control functions(guidance cancellation, route priority, way-point setting on the route, etc.).

    &4 Multi-function controller:Push to highlight an item on the screen,select the highlighted item, move on themap, etc.

    &5 :Push to display the vehicle information andthe navigation information, such as GPS andversion information, etc.

    &6 :Push to switch between the day screen(bright) and the night screen (dark). Pushand hold to turn off the display. Push againto turn on the display.

    &7 :Push to access the system settings.

    &8 :Push to repeat voice guidance for a guidepoint.

    &9 :Push to return to the previous screen. In asettings screen, this button can also beused to apply the setting.In a character input screen, this button canalso delete the characters that have beenentered.

    &10 :Push to display the current location mapscreen.

    &11 , :Push to switch to the zoom mode to changethe map scale.

    If needs to be pushed to apply thesetting on a settings screen, this manual willexplicitly include a step for this procedure.Otherwise, pushing returns you tothe previous screen.

    MULTI-FUNCTION CONTROLLER

    &1 :Push to select the highlighted item on thescreen.If this button is pushed while a map isdisplayed, the map menu screen is dis-played.

    &2 Main directional buttons:Use to move across the map, highlight anitem on the screen or adjust a setting(volume, brightness, etc.).

    &3 Additional directional buttons:Use to move across the map or highlight anitem on the character input screen.

    &4 Center dial:Turn to highlight an item on the screen oradjust a setting.Turn the center dial on the map screen. Themap scale is displayed. Use the center dialto adjust the map scale.

    If this button is tilted up while the audiofunction is activated and the map or statusscreen is displayed, the audio system can beoperated.

    &3 :Push this button during a setting operationto return to the previous screen. In a settingsscreen, this button can also be used to applythe setting.

    &4 :Push to start the voice recognition mode.Push and hold for 1 second to cancel voicecommands when in the voice recognitionmode.

    &5 :Use to switch the audio mode (source).Refer to the vehicle Owner’s Manual.

    Armada and Pathfinder

    &1 :Use to adjust the volume. This button hasthe same function as that of the volumeknob. Refer to the vehicle Owner’s Manual.

    &2 :Push to start the voice recognition mode.Push and hold for 1 second to cancel voicecommands when in the voice recognitionmode.Push and hold when not in the voicerecognition mode to display the phonescreen.

    &3 Tuning switch:Use to operate the audio system. Refer tothe vehicle Owner’s Manual.

    &4 :Push to end a call when in the phone mode.Use to switch the audio mode (source).Refer to the vehicle Owner’s Manual.

    1. The navigation system starts when theignition switch is turned to the ACC or ONposition.

    2. As the start-up screen is displayed, read theprecautions carefully, highlight [OK] andpush or touch [OK].

    If you do not push for more than 30seconds, the status screen will be displayed.Push , , , , , or to return to the start-up screen.

    By pushing while the currentlocation map screen is displayed, you candisplay the current status of the navigationsystem.

    Each time is pushed, displayedinformation is switched in the order of audio, airconditioner, vehicle information and navigationroute information.

    INFO:

    There are different status screens displayeddepending on various factors, such as thecurrently active mode, whether a destinationhas been set or not, etc.

    When a route to the destination is set and theaudio system is on, a screen similar to the oneabove appears.

    &1 Turning direction at the next intersection

    &2 Distance to the next intersection

    &3 Remaining time to the destination

    &4 Name of the next street

    When a route to the destination is not set andthe audio system is off, a screen similar to theone above appears.

    To ensure safe driving, some functions cannotbe operated while driving.

    The on-screen functions that are not availablewhile driving will be “grayed-out” or muted.

    In some cases, certain text will not be displayedon the screen.

    Park the vehicle in a safe location and thenoperate the navigation system.

    How to select a menu item

    Example: screen

    1. Turn the center dial clockwise or counter-clockwise or push the up or down button ofthe main directional buttons. An item ishighlighted accordingly.

    2. To select the preferred menu item, highlightthe item and push . The nextscreen is displayed.

    3. Push to return to the previousscreen without applying any changes.

    Push to return to the currentlocation map screen without applying anychanges.

    INFO:

    Depending on the menu selected, pushing may not return you to the currentlocation map screen.

    USING CONTROLS TO ADJUST VA-LUES, LEVELS, ETC.

    There are four main methods you can use tocontrol the navigation system: the center dial,the main directional buttons, the touch paneland the steering switch. Use these controls toadjust the volume of phone and voice guidance,the display brightness, etc.

    How to adjust

    1. Highlight the preferred setting item andpush . The color of the corre-sponding adjustment item changes.

    2. Use one of the controls, and the value or barindicating levels increases or decreasesaccordingly.

    3. Push or to apply thesetting.

    This same adjustment can also be made by thetouch panel operation.

    START MENU (Murano)

    The start menu can be displayed using thesteering switch.

    1. Push and hold on the steeringswitch.

    2. Highlight the preferred item and push.

    INFO:

    on the steering switch can be usedto display the start menu only when the map orstatus screen is displayed.

    Available items

    . Destination:Displays the destination screen. It is thesame screen that appears when you push.

    LIST SCREEN

    After searching for a point of interest, a listscreen is displayed.

    Depending on the list displayed, it can besorted.

    Items displayed in a list

    &1 Highlight the preferred item from the list andpush to select it.If a location or facility name is not completelydisplayed (due to length), highlight the item

    and push the right button of the maindirectional buttons to show the hidden partof the name.You can also display the hidden part of thename by touching .

    &2 Distance from the current location

    &3 Direction to the point of interest

    &4 If the entire list cannot be displayed on thescreen, the system displays the total numberof items in the list and the entry number of

    the selected item. Turn the center dial orpush the up or down buttons of the maindirectional buttons to scroll the list.

    &5 Highlight and push to sort thelist by shortest distance.

    &6 Highlight and push to sort thelist in the original order.

    &7 When the list is sorted by the shortestdistance, you can confirm the selectedlocation in the preview on the right side ofthe screen.

    With this system, the same operations as thosefor the multi-function controller are possibleusing the touch panel operation.

    This manual describes the operations using themulti-function controller.

    For the operations that differ from those of themulti-function controller and for useful methodsfor using the touch panel operation, refer to eachsection.

    EXAMPLE OF TOUCH PANEL OPERA-TION

    Here, the operation examples performed withthe touch panel operation are described.

    Selecting the item

    When the item is touched, the following screenis displayed.

    Adjusting the volume and others

    Touch [+] or [−] located on the right and left ofthe bar graph to perform the adjustment.

    Scrolling the message or list

    Touching [UP] or [DOWN] allows you to scrollthe message or list.

    Inputting letters and numbers

    1. Touch the letter or number.

    2. When you desire to delete a character,touch [Delete]. Push and hold [Delete] todelete all of the characters.

    Push while the current location mapscreen or a scrolled map screen is displayed todisplay the menu corresponding to that screen.

    This menu allows you to quickly use helpfulfunctions, such as setting a destination easilyand searching for Points of Interest nearby.

    To select a menu item, use the methoddescribed in “Menu screen types and how tooperate”.

    INFO:

    With the touch operation, the same screen canbe displayed by touching [Map Menu] locatedon the map screen.

    CURRENT LOCATION MAP SCREEN

    If is pushed while the currentlocation map screen is displayed, the followingoptions are available.

    . Store Location:Allows you to store the current vehiclelocation in the Address Book. The storedlocation can be retrieved as necessary to setit as a destination (waypoint).

    . Nearby:Allows you to search for points of interestnear the current vehicle location, such asrestaurants and gas stations, etc.

    . Map Settings:Performs the map operations such as theswitching of map type and the setting ofmap orientation and scale.

    “OTHER SETTINGS FOR THE MAPSCREEN” (page 3-12)

    . Landmark Icons:Allows you to display certain points ofinterest near the current vehicle location onthe map, such as restaurants and gasstations, etc.

    “DISPLAYING LANDMARK ICONS”(page 3-19)

    . Store Tracking:Allows you to store in the Address Book theroute that you have travelled from thestarting point to the current location.

    . Guide Screen:Set the default display screen for routeguidance.

    SCROLLED LOCATION MAP SCREEN

    If is pushed while a scrolled mapscreen is displayed, the following options areavailable.

    . New Dest.:Allows you to set the destination to the maplocation where you pushed . If adestination is already set, the location will beset as the new destination.

    . Add to Route:Allows you to set the map location whereyou pushed as the destination ora waypoint.

    This is available only when the suggestedroute is already set.

    . Nearby:Allows you to search for points of interest

    near the map location where you pushed and set it as a destination orwaypoint.

    Use the same search method as the one forPOI.

    “SETTING A NEARBY PLACE” (page4-14)

    . Store Location:Allows you to store the map location whereyou pushed in the AddressBook. The stored location can be retrievedto set it as a destination or waypoint.

    “STORING A LOCATION” (page 6-2)

    . Delete:Allows you to delete a stored location,destination or waypoint. To delete it, placethe cross pointer over the correspondingicon.

    . Incident Details:Can be selected only when the trafficinformation icon is displayed.Displays the details of the traffic informationicon that is being displayed.Place the cross pointer over the icon youdesire to check.Please note that incident details are afeature of Traffic Information, and that anXM NavTraffic® subscription is required inorder to receive Traffic Information.

    HOW TO STORE YOUR HOME

    If your home location is already stored in theAddress Book, it can be easily retrieved to setthe route to your home.

    The procedure to store your home location is thesame as for storing any other location.

    As an example, the procedure for storing yourhome location by searching for a destination byaddress is described here.

    2. Highlight [Home Location (Add New)] andpush .

    3. A confirmation message is displayed. Con-firm the contents of the message, highlight[Yes] and push .

    4. Highlight [Street Address] and push. A character input screen isdisplayed.

    5. Enter the address of your home, highlight[OK] and push .

    6. Pushing the directional buttons, adjust yourhome location if necessary.

    7. After adjust ing the locat ion, push.

    8. A message is displayed and your homelocation is stored.

    9. Push to return to the currentlocation map screen.

    STARTING ROUTE GUIDANCE

    After setting the destination and performingroute calculation, the suggested route is dis-played.

    NISSAN VOICE RECOGNITION

    NISSAN Voice Recognition allows hands-freeoperation of the navigation system and othersystems equipped on this vehicle, in one of twomodes, Standard Mode or Alternate CommandMode. In Standard Mode, you can operatePhone and Information.

    The commands that are available are alwaysshown on the display and announced by thesystem. You can complete your desired opera-tion by simply following the prompts given by thesystem. In Standard Mode, hands–free opera-tion of Audio, Climate Control and Display is notavailable through Voice Recognition.

    For U.S. customers, Standard Mode is selectedby default. For Canadian customers, AlternateCommand Mode is the default mode.

    INFO:

    . For the voice commands for the audio, airconditioner and other systems, refer to theOwner’s Manual of your vehicle. The follow-ing sections refer only to the navigation,phone, and information systems.

    . When the system language is set to“Français” (French) the available commandsand functions differ from those availablewhen using the system in English.

    Using the system

    Initialization:

    When the ignition switch is pushed to the ONposition, NISSAN Voice Recognition is initia-lized, which takes a few seconds. Whencompleted, the system is ready to accept voicecommands. If is pushed before theinitialization completes, the display will show themessage: “Phonetic data downloading. Pleasewait.”

    Before starting

    To get the best recognition performance fromNISSAN Voice Recognition, observe the follow-ing:

    . The interior of the vehicle should be as quietas possible. Close the windows to eliminatethe surrounding noises (traffic noise andvibration sounds, etc.), which may preventthe system from correctly recognizing thevoice commands.

    . Wait until the tone sounds before speaking acommand.

    . Speak in a natural conversational voicewithout pausing between words.

    . If the air conditioner is set to “Auto”, the fanspeed is automatically lowered so that yourcommands can be recognized more easily.

    Plan View displays the map in a 2-dimensionalenvironment similar to a road map.

    SETTING A STREET ADDRESS

    If you know the address of your destination, usethis method to enter the address and then havethe system calculate a route. You can alsosearch for a location near the preferred destina-tion by entering the house number if the mapdata contains the relevant data.

    1. Push .

    2. Highlight [Street Address] and push. A character input screen isdisplayed.

    3. Enter the house number, highlight [OK] andpush . If you do not know thehouse number, highlight [No House #] andpush . A street name inputscreen is displayed.

    4. Enter the name of the street. After finishingthe entry, highlight [List] and push. A list of cities is displayed.

    5. Highlight the correct city of the destinationfrom the list and push .

    SETTING YOUR HOME

    This allows you to set your home as thedestination and have the system calculate aroute. It is useful especially when you aresearching for a route to return to your home.

    1. Push .

    2. Highlight [Home] and push .

    3. A confirmation message is displayed, andthe system sets your home as the destina-tion.

    INFO:

    If you have not stored your home yet, thesystem will automatically display a screen forstoring it.

    4. Your home is displayed at the center of themap. Highlight [Start] after confirming thelocation of the displayed destination, andpush . The system sets thedestination to the selected location andstarts calculating a route.

    SETTING FROM ADDRESS BOOK

    This allows you to set the destination to alocation stored in the Address Book and havethe system calculate a route. To utilize thisfunction more effectively, destinations that youoften travel to should be stored in advance.

    2. Highlight [Address Book] and push. A list screen is displayed.

    3. Highlight the preferred location from the list

    . Selecting [Sort List] displays a list ofvarious sort functions.To use the sort functions, stored loca-tions must be set in advance.

    &1 Sort by Number:The Address Book entries are displayedin ascending numerical order.

    &2 Sort by Name:The Address Book entries are displayedin alphabetic order.

    &3 Sort by Icon:By selecting a particular icon, a list thatcontains only the Address Book entriesassociated with that icon is displayed.

    &4 Sort by Group:By selecting a particular group (family,friends, leisure, etc.), the selected groupis displayed at the top of the list.

    4. The selected destination is displayed at thecenter of the map. Highlight [Start] afterconfirming the location of the displayeddestination, and push . Thesystem sets the destination to the selectedlocation and starts calculating a route.

    Even after setting a destination, you can adjustthe location of the destination, store the route,etc.

    If there is any particular Points of Interest typethat you intend to use frequently, you can store itin the list of nearby Points of Interest.
