    Retain this m anual for future reference.U sing your appliance D o not use the app liance to pick up liquids or any m ateri-

    als that could catch fire. D o not use the appliance near water. Do not immerse the appliance in water. N ever pull the ch arger lead to disconnect the ch arger from

    the socket. Keep the ch arger lead away from heat, oil andsharp edges.

    Th is appliance is not intended for use by young or infirmpersons without supervision. Ch ildren m ust be supervisedto ensure they do not play with th e appliance.

    After use Unp lug the charger before cleaning the charger or charg-

    ing base. Wh en not in use, the ap pliance should be stored in a dry

    place. C hildren should not have access to stored app liances.

    Inspection and repairs Before use, check th e app liance for dam aged or defective

    parts. Ch eck for breakage of parts, dam age to switchesand any other conditions that m ay affect its operation.

    D o not use the app liance if any pa rt is dam aged or defec-tive.

    Have any damaged or defective pa rts repaired or replacedby an authorized rep air agent.Regularly check the charger lead for damage. Replace thecharger if the lead is dam aged or defective.Never attempt to remove or replace any pa rts other thanthose specified in this manual.

    Additional safety instructions - batteries and charg-ersBatteries Never attempt to open for any reason. D o not expose the battery to water. D o not expose the battery to heat. D o not store in locations where the tem perature may

    exceed 40C . Charge only at ambient temperatures between 10C and

    40C. C harge only using the ch arger provided with the app li-

    ance/tool. Using the w rong charger could result in anelectric shock or ov erheating of the battery.

    Wh en disposing of ba tteries, follow the instructions givenin the section "Protecting the environment".

    Do not damage/deform the battery pack either by punctureor imp act, as this may create a risk of injury and fire.

    Do not charge dam aged batteries. Under ex treme conditions, battery leakage may occur.

    Wh en you notice liquid on the batteries carefully wipe theliquid off using a cloth. A void skin contact.

    In case of skin or ey e contact, follow the instructionsbelow.

    Warning! The battery fluid may cause personal injury ordamage to property. In case of skin contact, imm ediately rinsewith water. If redness, pain or irritation occurs seek m edicala ttention. In case of eye contact, rinse im m ediately with cleanwater and seek medical attention.ChargersYour ch arger has been designed for a specific voltage. Alwayscheck that the m ains voltage corresponds to the voltage onthe rating plate.Warning! Never attemp t to replace the ch arger unit with aregular mains plug.

    Use your Black & Decker charger only to charge the bat-tery in the appliance/tool with wh ich it was supplied. Otherba tteries could burst, causing p ersonal injury and dam age.Never attemp t to charge nonrechargeable batteries.If the supp ly cord is damaged, it must be replaced by them anufacturer or an authorised Black & D ecker Serv iceC entre in order to avoid a hazard.D o not expose the charger to water.Do not open the charger.Do not probe the charger.

    AssemblyMounting accessories (fig. A, B & C )Th e 2-in-1 com bi nozzle (9) has a brush that can be foldedforward for dusting and uph olstery cleaning.Th e crevice tool (13 ) allows for vacuuming in narrow and hardto-reach places.Th e pet brush head (12 ) is ideal for picking up pet hairs fromcushions and furniture. To fit an accessory p ress the accessory clip (10 ) and slide

    the accessory onto the handle (2). To rem ove an accessory, p ress the accessory clip (10)

    and remove th e accessory.Wh en not in use, accessories can be stored on the ch argerbase (11).The handle (2) can be removed from the hose (4) allowing theaccessories (9, 1 2 or 1 3) to be connected directly to the hosecuff (14) when required.To rem ove the handle: Unclip the h andle (2) from the app liance. Rotate the locking ring (3) anti-clockwise to release theclips. Pull the hose (4) away from the handle (2). Fit the accessory directly to the hose cuff (15 ).

    To refit the handle: Rem ove the accessory from the hose. Push the hose (4) into the handle (2). Rotate the locking

    ring (3) clockwise until it clicks into place.

    Use Before first use, the battery must be charged. Place the appliance on the charging base w henever it is

    not in use.Charging the battery (Fig. D) Place the appliance on the charging b ase (11) Plug in the charger. Switch on at the mains. Th e charging

    indicator (7) will flash continuously (slowly) Leave the appliance to charge.

    While charging, the charger may become warm. T his isnormal and do es not indicate a problem. The appliance canbe left connected to the charger indefinitely. The chargingindicator (7) will be lit as long as the appliance is conn ected tothe plugged-in charger.W arning! Do not charge the battery at ambient temperaturesbelow 10 C or above 40 C.The charge is complete when the charging indicator (7) lightscontinuously. The charger and the battery can be left connect-ed indefinitely with the LED illuminated. The LED w ill changeto flashing (charging) state as the charger occasionally topsoff the battery charge. The ch arging indicator (7) will be lit aslong as th e battery is connected to the plugged-in charger. Charge discharged ba tteries within 1 week. Battery life will

    be greatly diminish ed if stored in a discharged state.Note: The charger will not charge a battery if the celltemperature is below approximately 0 C or above 40 C.The battery should be left in the charger and the chargerwill begin to charge automatically when the cell tempera-ture warms up or cools down.Battery diagnosticsIf the appliance detects a weak battery, the charging ind ica-tor (3) will flash at a fast rate when the power bu tton (1) isactivated. Proceed as follows: Place the appliance on the charging b ase (11) Plug in the charger. Switch on at the main s. Leave the appliance to charge.

    If the appliance detects a damaged battery, the chargingindicator (7) will flash at a fast rate when the app liance is onthe charger base. Proceed as follows: Take the appliance and the charger to be tested at an

    authorised services centre.Note: It may take as long as 60 minutes to determine thatthe battery is defective. If the battery is too hot or toocold, the LED will alternately blink, fast and slow, oneflash at each speed and repeat.

    Switching on and off To switch the app liance on, slide the on/off power switch

    (1) to the right to position 1. To switch the appliance off, slide the on/off power switch

    (1) to the left until it clicks into the off posi t i on.Vacuuming W hen operating the appliance, make sure that the hose isnot trapped, twisted or blocked. The handle (2) can be easily removed from the appliance

    allowing you to reach up to 1.5 m from the appliance. With the handle (2) removed, the appliance can be carried

    using the built-in handle. The handle (2) can also be removed from the hose (4) so

    that you can conn ect an accessory directly to the hosecuff (14) when required.

    Hints for optimum use Wh en vacuuming stairs, always start at the bottom and

    work your way up.Optimising the suction forceIn order to keep th e suction force optimised, the filters must becleared regularly during use. Turn the filter cleaning wheel (5) two turns clockw ise to

    remove ou t any dust from the filters. The fine p articulate filter must be cleaned regularly, see

    "Cleaning the fine particulate filter" section.C lean ing and m a in tenanceEmptying the dust container (flg.E)The dust container m ust be emptied regularly, preferably afterevery use. Release the door catch (8) and o pen the transparent door

    (6)180C until it clicks in the open position. Rem ove the pre-filter (16). Em pty the dust container. Clean the pre-filter (16) by lightly shaking o ver a dustbin. Refit the pre-filter (16). Close the transparent door (6) and make sure that it clicks

    into place.W arning! Do not, under any circumstances, rinse out the dustcontainer.W arning! Do not imerse the appliance in water. A dam p clothand soapy w ater should be used to clean the exterior of theappliance. Always make sure that the appliance is completelyd ry before re-use or storing.

    (Original instructions)Cleaning the fine particulate filter (fig.F)Th e fine particulate filter (17) p revents particles and largerobjects from entering the m otor housing.Th e filter (17) is re-usable and should be cleaned regularly. Remove the pre-filter (16) from the appliance as described

    above. Remove the fine particulate filter (17 ) by p ulling firm ly. Tap the filter vigorously to remove loose dust from the

    filter. If necessary, wash the filter in warm , soapy water. Make sure th at the filters are dry. Refit the fine p articulate filter (17 ) on to the ap pliance. Ref it the pre-filter (16) as described above.

    Rep lacing th e f i l tersThe filters should be replaced every 6 to 9 months and when-ever worn or dam aged. Replacem ent filters are available fromyour Black & Decker dealer (cat. no. PD10): Rem ove the old filters as described above. Fit the new filters as described above.

    Protecting the environmentSeparate collection. This p roduct must not be

    -disposed of with normal househ old waste.

    Should you find one day that your Black & D ecker productneeds replacem ent, or if it is of no further use to you, do notdispose of it with househ old waste. Make this product avail-able for sep arate collection.

    Separate collection of used p roducts and packagingallows m aterials to be recycled and used again.Re-use of recycled m aterials helps p revent environ-m ental pollution and reduces the dem and for rawmaterials.

    Local regulations may prov ide for separate collection of elec-trical products from the househ old, at municipal waste sites orby the retailer when y ou purchase a new p roduct.Black & D ecker provides a facility for the collection andrecycling of Black & Decker products once they have reachedthe end of th eir working life.     BatteriesB lack and Decker batteries can be recharged m anytimes. A t the end of their useful life, discard batterieswith due care for our environment.:

    If you want to dispose of the p roduct yourself, the battery m ustbe rem oved as described below and disposed of in accord-ance with local regulations. D ischarge the battery by operating the app liance until the

    m otor stops. Invert the app liance to get access to the screws that at-

    tach the base. Rem ove the 4 screws. Rem ove the base. D isconnect the 3-p in connector. Place th e battery in suitable packaging to ensure that th e

    terminals cannot be short-circuited. Take th e battery to your service agent or to a local recy-cling station.
