Battery Limit Responsibilities Division

The following description of the typical items between the Process Battery Limit (PBL) and Construction Battery Limit (CBL) indicates the Units’ responsibility. Where this typical list causes a design, procurement, fabrication or construction conflict, the ISBL (Inside Battery Limit) and OSBL (Outside Battery Limit) Units will address on a case by case basis. The typical Battery Limit Schematic is shown below.

Battery Limit Responsibilities Division

# Description Unit Responsible

1 Process Design, P&ID and line number, specification of design conditions and line class

ISBL

2 Design, procurement, fabrication, assembly and construction of modules including: piles, structural steel, platforms, stairways, railing, cable trays, supports, clips and anchors (as required). PBL to CBL.

OSBL (U80)

3 Detail design, procurement and fabrication of in-spec P, V & F (Pipe, Valves and Fittings) per approved line classes

1. Piping design per ISBL P&IDa. For Field Weld (FW), piping will be provided as Bevelled End

(BE) and ISBL will prepare for weldingb. Flanges will be per line class

OSBL (U80)

4 Instrumentation design, procurement, installation and terminations ISBL5 Instrument (not in-line) support fittings (root valve, o-let, flange) per P&ID OSBL (U80)6 Instrument modeling in S3D – input required from ISBL OSBL (U80)7 Specialty Items:

1. In-line valves, design and data sheet 2. In-line instruments;

a) design, procure and install b) provide OSBL with dimensions, flange rating and data sheet

8 Specialty Items:1. In-line valves;

a. procurement and installationb. Long lead procurement and installation responsibility will be

established on a case by case basis2. In-line instruments; fabrication and installation of temp spacer

OSBL (U80)

9 Specialty Items (not specified above):Other items to be designed by ISBL and procurement/ installation responsibility will be established on a case by case basis

Case by case basis

10 EHT design 1. HMS has overall design responsibility, but must be supported by ISBL

and OSBL (U80) between PBL and CBL2. Segment of EHT between Spectacle Blind and CBL is part of ISBL EHT

and is not intended to be separately controlled

HMS

11 EHT procure and install (shop) ISBL to CBL (note 3 ft. cutback from weld area) ISBL12 EHT procure and install (shop)

1. PBL to Spectacle Blind as part of the OSBL EHT design zone OSBL (U80)

13 EHT procure and install (shop) 1. Spectacle Blind to CBL as part of the ISBL EHT design zone (note 3 ft.

cutback from weld area)

ISBL

14 EHT Field Connection across CBL (Field Weld or Flange) ISBL15 EHT for applicable u/g lines to extend approximately 3m below grade.

Responsibility depends on which a/g Unit is completing the connection, ISBL or OSBL

Above GroundISBL or OSBL

(U80)16 Insulation design and installation (shop) ISBL to CBL (3 ft. cutback) ISBL17 Insulation design and installation (shop) PBL to CBL (3 ft. cutback), insulation

not to cover hydrotest vents and drainsOSBL (U80)

18 Insulation Field Patch Kit across CBL; procure and install ISBL19 Insulation design and installation (field) for areas left bare by OSBL for

hydrotest vents and drainsISBL

20 Insulation design and installation (field) approximately 3 m below grade for tie-ins to u/g lines as required. Responsibility depends on which a/g Unit is completing connection, ISBL or OSBL

Above GroundISBL or OSBL

21 Electrical Insulation Kit (a/g) from ISBL to u/g lines, as required Above GroundISBL

22 Electrical Insulation Kit (a/g) from OSBL (U80) to u/g lines, as required OSBL (U80)23 Field Weld and NDE as required at CBL ISBL24 Hydrotest (shop) ISBL to CBL ISBL25 Hydrotest (shop) PBL to CBL, incl. partial AB83 provided to ISBL OSBL (U80)26 Hydrotest (site) ISBL to Site hydrotest Point ‘A’ (BLV closest to ISBL) or to the

closest practical point ISBL
