The PassageA Night Under The Stars raises money for The Passage – a charity that provides resources which encourage, inspire and challenge homeless people to transform their lives.

A homeless person can be anyone given the wrong circumstances: redundancy, home repossession, a broken marriage, mental illness, violence and abuse. Ex-servicemen and women sometimes find themselves homeless at the end of their term of service. Homelessness in London is increasing, with a 6% rise in rough sleeping recorded last year.

The Passage believes in giving people a hand up, rather than a hand out. It operates London’s largest voluntary day centre, undertaking local street outreach work, managing a direct access hostel, facilitating access to health professionals, and providing education and training.

Over the last 30 years The Passage has helped more than 100,000 people. It has served three million meals, found jobs for 2,000 clients and made 90,000 contacts with homeless people on the street through its outreach workers.

The Passage has a 4:1 volunteer to staff ratio, meaning 90p in every £1 of funds generated goes directly to its services. Less than 50% of The Passage’s £4 million running costs come from statutory grants; voluntary contributions meet the remaining costs.
