What is Bitrix Intranet Portal?

Bitrix Intranet Portal (BIP) allows organizations to create an internal workspace and assure the 3C (communications, collaboration and corporate culture) functionality for successfully completing strategic tasks. The BIP 3C functionality enables fast and relevant decision making, knowledge continuity, legal regulations compliance and harnessing the social dimension of employees – all resulting in sustainable business growth, competitiveness increase and risk minimization. The product is targeted at small and medium sized business. Out-of-the-box, off-the-shelf BIP is a ready-to-run software that requires no additional development, no special IT experience and can be deployed by even non pro with basic knowledge of web technologies. Average intranet launch time is only 8 hours.

GETTING STARTED

There are two options of reviewing BIP:

Using a remote installation The software is installed remotely and you can play with BIP within ready-made virtual appliance. To get advantage of that option please go to http://www.bitrixsoft.com/products/intranet/demo.php

Using an on-premise installation You install the software on your test computer. This will require you to download the BIP trial version (http://www.bitrixsoft.com/download/intranet/index.php), start it and follow the instructions.

Here are a few tips of how to get started working with BIP after installation:

The administrative console on the top contains main controls to the portal. The ‘Browse’ tab allows for common navigation. The ‘Content’ tab allows for editing content and page layout. The ‘Design’ tab allows for design customization. The ‘Control Panel’ tab switches to the technical roots of the system and allows for more flexible configuration.

Normally there are several ways of doing things so you can pick up the one more convenient for you. For example, you can edit the page content by

clicking the button next to page when in ‘Content’ tab. Or you can switch to Control Panel -> Content -> Site Explorer. Or you can simply double click the page to edit when in ‘Content’ mode.

The initial BIP installation is populated with demo data of a typical organization. This provides a snapshot of how intranet looks like. After browsing it you can flush the demo data with one button click using Cleanup Wizard.

You can drag and drop sections on the main page to reach your personal look and feel.

Switching to Extranet is easy: just click on the right menu item affirmatively named ‘Extranet’. When reviewing the on-premise version you will need to install the Extranet module additionally by pressing the Configuration Wizard

button available in the administrative console.

With BIP customers can do instant or group video conferencing, e-mail processing, instant messaging, online portal messaging and rich social networking tools such as blogs and forums. With functionality employees extend their communication opportunities enabling extreme availability and connectivity. They can chat via instant messenger from a mobile device or a smartphone, participate in discussing via e-mail without logging in the intranet and meet other team members being at the other end of the Earth. Extranet

Create workgroups and work on project basis with external parties without giving them access to the intranet assets.

A business process can be initiated with regards to a document or a routine activity, owners can modify the process at any stage of its implementation, users can receive assignments directly to their calendars and tasks as well as receive notifications via instant messenger or e-mail.

On-demand deployment The BIP price depends on the hosting/service provider’s policy and may vary from company to company and from country to country. Normally the price ranges from 2 to 3 US$ per user per month.

On-premise deployment The price depends on the number of intranet users. Customers have to purchase a 25-user base pack and the necessary number of additional user licenses to meet the general number of intranet users in organization. The average price per user is US$ 40. The exact price depends on the BIP edition and volume discounts.

Subscription renewals In order to continue receiving product updates and upgrades customers have to renew subscriptions, which cost 22% of the initial product price. Applicable for on-premise deployment only.
