Allaah Ta’ala said:

بھۦ فویل ن ر م فھو على نور م سل صدرهۥ لإل بین ◌فمن شرح ٱ ل م ئك في ضل أول ن ذكر ٱ سیة قلوبھم م للق

<< Is he whose heart, Allaah has opened to Islaam, so that he is in light from His Lord (same as he who is non-Muslim)? So, woe to those whose hearts are hardened against remembrance of Allaah! They are in plain error! >> [Zumar: 22]

Allaah Ta’ala said:

أن یھدیھۥ م ومن یرد أن یضلھۥ یجعل صدرهۥ فمن یرد ٱ سل عد في ٱلسمآء یشرح صدرهۥ لإل ضیقا حرجا كأنما یص

<< And whomsoever Allaah wills to guide, He opens his heart to Islaam, and whomsoever He wills to send astray, He makes his heart closed and constricted, as if he is climbing up to the sky. >> [al-Anaam: 125]

Shamsuddeen Muhammad bin Abee Bakr Ibn Qayyim aj-Jawzeeyah (d.751 A.H.) -Rahimullaah- said:

‘From the means of ease and delight for the heart, is: continuous remembrance of Allaah in all circumstances, and in every place. Dhikr has an amazing effect in giving ease to the heart, and pleasure to the heart. Negligence has a strange effect on making the heart constrained, imprisoning it and punishing it.’

Ibn Qayyim aj-Jawzeeyah -Rahimullaah- also said:

‘From the greatest means for the constraint of the heart is: Turning away from Allaah Ta’ala, and attaching the heart to other than Him. Being negligent of His remembrance, and loving other than Him, since whoever loved something other than Allaah then he is punished with that thing. His heart is imprisoned in loving that other thing. So there is none in this world who is more wretched than him, and none more in a gloomier situation, nor a more miserable survival, nor any one with a more tired / sick heart.’ [From: ‘Zaad al-Ma’ad’ by Ibn Qayyim aj-Jawzeeyah 2/25]

Ibn Qayyim aj-Jawzeeyah -Rahimullaah- also said:

‘There is no doubt that the heart becomes rusty just like brass and silver and other things become rusty, and it becomes bright and illuminated with Dhikr. It becomes so bright until it is a shiny mirror, therefore if the heart is left then it becomes rusty and if it remembers Allaah it becomes illuminated.

The heart becomes rusty due to two matters: due to negligence and sins, and it becomes illuminated with two things: with seeking forgiveness and Dhikr.’ [From ‘al-Waabil as-Sayib’ by Ibn Qayyim aj-Jawzeeyah p.56]

Day 03: The State of the Salaf in Ramadhaan Authored by Shaykh al ‘Allama Rabee’ bin Hadi Umayr al-Madkhalee Compiled & Translated by Umm Yahya

Question: A questioner is asking about the state of the Salaf in Ramadhaan.

Answer: In answering this question I say, that the state of the noble Messenger –’Alayhi as-Salat wa Salam- in Ramadhaan is well known and he used to prepare for this month by fasting more in Sha’baan. As is narrated in the Hadeeth of ‘Aeysha -Radhi Allaahu ‘anha-:

‘He –’Alayhi as-Salat wa Salam- used to fast all of, or most of Sha’baan.’

Then he –’Alayhi as-Salat wa Salam- would fast in this noble month of Ramadhaan and exert himself even more so in the last ten nights of Ramadhaan.

When the last ten nights entered he would exert himself in worship and tighten his waist wrapper (meaning to exert himself in worship), he would perform I’tikaaf and his wives would too and many of his –’Alayhi as-Salat wa Salam- Companions would also make I’tikaf.

He –’Alayhi as-Salat wa Salam- would establish these great actions of fasting perfectly, performing good deeds and showing goodness and sacrifice.

The Messenger –’Alayhi as-Salat wa Salam- was extremely generous, he was the most generous of people and when Ramadhaan came, he –’Alayhi as-Salat wa Salam- was more generous than a wind that had been sent and more so if Jibraeel was sent as is narrated in the Hadeeth of Ibn ‘Abbas Radhi Allaahu ‘anhumma.

The Messenger of Allaah -Sallaallaahu ‘alayhi wa Sallam – would recite, or present the Qur’aan to Jibraeel once every Ramadhaan, and in the last year of his noble life he recited the Qur’aan to Jibraeel twice, as is narrated in the Hadeeth of Ayesha and Abu Hurairah Radhi Allaahu anhumma. This was a sign of his –’Alayhi as-Salat wa Salam- eminent passing away.

So the Salaf held a special concern for this great month of paying attention to reciting the Qur’aan, increasing in the remembrance of Allaah, abstaining from sins, as fasting necessitates all these things. Fasting is not merely abstaining from food and drink indeed it is a way of refraining from all that Allaah The Most High The Most Blessed hates in terms of sins etc.

Fasting is also turning in obedience to Allaah –’Azza wa Jal- and to have Ikhlaas (sincerity) for Allaah in this action.

May Allaah be pleased with the Salaf. It is said of Malik that he would teach the people and when Ramadhaan approached he would free up his time for fasting and reciting Qur’aan. Thus you should give importance to reciting the Qur’aan in this noble month, along with reflecting upon it and pondering about it, and to take heed of the admonition and take heed of that which is rebuked, and comprehend the Halal and Haram and the clear understanding of Allaah’s threats and promises and things of this nature from the noble Qur’aan, with this the soul is purified and hearts are illuminated.

Page 6: Bitesize Ramadhaan Articles 1434/2013 - Miraath Publications · Bitesize Ramadhaan Articles 1434/2013 . A series of daily articles (reminders) to be used throughout the month of Ramadhaan,

This illustrates to us that the Qur’aan is life, light and a guidance for us as Allaah -Tabaraka wa Ta’ala- has described it as such.

<< And thus We have sent to you Ruhan (an Inspiration, and a Mercy) of Our Command. You knew not what is the Book, nor what is Faith? But We have made it (this Qur’aan) a light wherewith We guide whosoever of Our slaves We will. And verily, you are indeed guiding (mankind) to the Straight Path.>> [ash-Shura: 52]

Regarding the way of the Righteous Salaf, you should read about their striving, their patience and their sincerity for Allaah; how they exceeded in their efforts in this noble month and other months. That is to say that we do not only remind ourselves of performing these actions only in the month of Ramadhaan and then become heedless and forsake our obedience to Allaah in the remaining months, on the contrary we continue to stand in the night with prayer and continue to worship Allaah and turn to Allaah in addition to all the other acts of worship in order to gain closeness to Allaah in Ramadhaan, we should not be heedless.

Some people turn in obedience to Allaah in this month and once it has passed they fall short, become lazy and forget many acts of worship.

No, there is no doubt that we should have more concern in this month than in the other months, however, we must remember Allaah continuously throughout the year and throughout our lives.

<< O you who believe! Remember Allaah with much remembrance. And glorify His Praises morning and afternoon [the early morning (Fajr) and ‘Asr prayers]. >> [Ahzab: 41-42]

Therefore, the believer remembers Allaah -Tabaraka wa Ta’ala- continuously, obeys Him, has Taqwa of Him, has Khushoo (humility) of Him and awareness of Him in every hour of his life.

I beseech Allaah to grant us and you the ability to perform the night prayer, fast and all that which is obligatory upon us in this noble month and grant us eagerness and zest regarding its virtues

I also beseech Allaah to grant us the ability to continuously uphold His obedience and turn to Him upon that which pleases Him. Verily our Lord hears the supplication.’

Day 04: Dua’ is Worship Compiled & Translated by Abbas Abu Yahya

Published by Miraath Publications

Audio and Written Excerpt found here: http://bit.ly/2ogpyg1

From an-Nu’maan bin Basheer -Radhi Allaahu anhu- from the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- who said:

‘Dua’ is worship.’ Then he recited:

< < And your Lord said: ‘Invoke Me, (and ask Me for anything) I will respond to your (invocation). Verily! Those who scorn My worship [i.e. do not invoke Me, and do not believe in My Oneness] they will surely enter Hell in humiliation!’>> [Ghafir: 60]

[Collected by Abu Dawood, Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah and Albaani authenticated it in ‘Saheeh al-Jamai’ no. 3407]

Shaykh ul-Islaam Ibn Taymeeyah (d.728 A.H.) -Rahimullaah- said:

‘Dua’ is worship’; worship is built upon the Sunnah and following the Messenger, and not upon desires and innovating. Indeed Allaah is worshipped with what He had legislated, He is not worshipped with desires and innovations.

Allaah Ta’ala said:

ن ٱلدین ما لم یأذن بھ ٱ ؤا شرعوا لھم م أم لھم شرك

< < Or have they partners with Allaah (false gods), who have instituted for them a religion which Allaah has not allowed. >> [Shura: 21]

Allaah Ta’ala said: إنھۥ ال یحب ٱلمعتدین

< < He likes not the aggressors.>> after His statement: عا وخفیة ٱدعوا ربكم تضر

<Call upon your Lord in humility and privately; indeed, He does not like transgressors.> [al-Aaraaf: 55]

This is an evidence that whoever does not make Dua’ to Allaah with humility and in secret, then he is from the aggressors, whom Allaah does not love.’ [Taken from: ‘al-Fatawa al-Misreeyah’ 6/210]

Al-Mubarakforee -Rahimullaah- said:

‘This is worship in reality, which deserves to be called worship; due to the indication that making Dua’ is turning to Allaah, and turning away from everything except Him, whereby a person does not have hope or fear except of Allaah Ta’ala.’ [From Tuhfatul Ahwadeeh 8/246]

Day 05: The Encouragement to Fast Ramadan Seeking a Reward Compiled & Translated by Abbas Abu Yahya

Published by Miraath Publications

Audio and Written Excerpt found here: http://bit.ly/2ogbKlL

1 – (992) – From Abu Hurairah -Radhi Allaahu anhu- from the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- who said:

من قام لیلة القدر إیمانا واحتسابا غفر لھ ما تقدم من ذنبھ ومن صام رمضان إیمانا واحتسابا غفر لھ ما تقدم من ذنبھ

‘Whoever prayed during the night of Laylatul – Qadr due to Eemaan and seeking a reward, then he is forgiven his previous sins. Whoever Fasts Ramadan due to Eemaan and seeking a reward, then he is forgiven his previous sins.’ [Collected by Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawood, Nisa’ee, Ibn Majah & Albaani declared it to be Saheeh]

Al-Khattabi said: ‘The meaning of the Prophet’s saying: ‘due to Eemaan and seeking a reward’ means having the intention and a strong resolve, which is to fast Ramadan with certainty and desiring a reward for it. Wanting to make oneself better due to Ramadan, without disliking it, nor with feeling it burdensome due to fasting it, nor due to its long drawn out days, but rather taking opportunity of the many days of Ramadan for its great reward.’

Baghawi said: ‘The saying of the Prophet: ‘seeking a reward’ means seeking Allaah’s Face and His reward.’

2 - (993) – Abu Hurairah -Radhi Allaahu anhu- said:

كان رسول هللا ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص یرغب في قیام رمضان من غیر أن یأمرھم بعزیمة ثم یقول من قام رمضان إیمانا واحتسابا غفر لھ ما تقدم من ذنبھ

The Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- used to encourage praying in the night during Ramadan, without ordering them to do so as an obligation, then he would say:

‘Whoever prayed during the night in Ramadan due to Eemaan and seeking a reward, then he is forgiven his previous sins.’ [Collected by Muslim, Abu Dawood, Tirmidhi, Nisa’ee & Albaani declared it to be Saheeh.]

Shaykh Albaani mentioned in the footnote:

‘This encouragement of having sins forgiven and those similar to it, are a clarification of the excellence of this type of worship, which is that if a person had sins then they are forgiven for him due to this type of worship. It is known that the means which lead to general forgiveness are many, so when these means are gathered/ combined, what can remain from those sins so that he needs to be forgiven?

So the purpose is a clarification of the excellence of this worship, that Allaah gives this worship this amount of excellence. If there was no sin upon a person, then this excellence is expressed in raising the rank of a person, the like of that which is rightful for the Prophets, who are infallible from committing sin. And Allaah knows best.’

3 – (994) – Abu Hurairah -Radhi Allaahu anhu- from the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- who said:

الصلوات الخمس والجمعة إلى الجمعة ورمضان إلى رمضان مكفرات ما بینھن إذا اجتنبت الكبائر

‘The five daily prayers, from one Juma till the next Juma, from Ramadan to the next Ramadan, are an expiation for what takes place between them, as long as the major sins are kept away from.’ [Collected by Muslim]

4 – (998) – Abu Hurairah -Radhi Allaahu anhu- from the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- who said:

إذا جاء رمضان فتحت أبواب الجنة وغلقت أبواب النار وصفدت الشیاطین

‘When Ramadan comes in, the doors of Paradise are opened, the doors of Hell-Fire are closed and the Devils are locked up.’ [Collected by Bukhari & Muslim]

In the narration of Muslim:

ب الرحمة وغلقت أبواب جھنم وسلسلت الشیاطینفتحت أبوا

‘The doors of mercy are opened, the doors of Hell are closed, and the Devils are chained up.’

In the wording from Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah:

یفتح منھا باب وفتحت أبواب الجنة فلم یغلق منھا إذا كان أول لیلة من شھر رمضان صفدت الشیاطین ومردة الجن وغلقت أبواب النار فلم باب وینادي مناد یا باغي الخیر أقبل ویا باغي الشر أقصر و عتقاء من النار وذلك كل لیلة

‘When it is the first night of the month of Ramadan, the Devils are locked up and the evil Jinn, the doors of Hell-Fire are closed, so that no door from it is open. The doors of Paradise are opened, so no door from it is closed. A caller will call out: O seeker of good come forward, and O seeker of evil keep away from sin, and Allaah has slaves freed from the fire, and that is every night of Ramadan.’ [Albaani declared it Hasan]

5 – (1002) – It is narrated from Abu Saeed al-Khudri -Radhi Allaahu anhu- who said: The Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said:

وإن لكل مسلم في كل یوم ولیلة دعوة مستجابة –یعني في رمضان –إن تبارك وتعالى عتقاء في كل یوم ولیلة

‘Indeed Allaah -Tabaraka wa Ta’ala- has freed slaves every day and night -meaning in Ramadan- and indeed every Muslim has every day and night a supplication that is answered.’ [Collected by al- Bazzar & Albaani declared it to be Saheeh lighayrihi.]

6 – 1003 – From Amr bin Murra al-Juhani -Radhi Allaahu anhu- who said: ‘A man came to the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- and asked: ‘O Messenger of Allaah! Do you see that if I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that you are the Messenger of Allaah, and I pray the five prayers, and I gave the Zakat, and Fast Ramadan, and prayed during its nights, so who will I be from?’

He -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said: من الصدیقین والشھداء

‘From the righteous and the martyrs.’ [Collected by al-Bazzar, Ibn Khuzaimah, Ibn Hibban & Albaani declared it Saheeh.]

Day 06: Discouraging from concentrating on satisfying the stomach Compiled & Translated by Abbas Abu Yahya

1 – (2134) From Abu Hurairah – Radi Allaahu anhu– who said the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said:

المسلم یأكل في معى واحد والكافر في سبعة أمعاء

‘A Muslim eats for one stomach, and a non-Muslim eats for seven stomachs.’ [Collected by Malik, Bukhari, Muslim, Ibn Majah and others. Albaani declared it Saheeh No.2134]

And in the narration of Bukhari:

‘There used to be a man who would eat a lot, then he accepted Islaam, and he would only eat a small amount, so this was mentioned to the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam-, so he said:

إن المؤمن یأكل في معى واحد وإن الكافر یأكل في سبعة أمعاء

‘Indeed the believer eats for one stomach, and indeed the non-Muslim eats for seven stomachs.’

And in the narration of Muslim he said:

‘That the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- hosted a non Muslim guest, so the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- ordered for a goat to be milked and the guest drank its milk, then another one was milked and he drank its milk, then another one was milked and he drank its milk, until he had drunk the milk of seven goats! Then in the morning he had accepted Islaam. The Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- ordered for a goat and the man drank its milk, then another but he could not finish it, so the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said:

افر یشرب في سبعة أمعاءإن المؤمن لیشرب في معى واحد والك

‘A believer drinks for one stomach, and the kaffir drinks for seven stomachs.’ [It was also collected by Malik and Tirmidhi, with similar wording]

2 – (2135) From Al-Miqdad bin Ma’d Yakrib -Radhi Allaahu anhu- who said:

‘I heard the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- saying:

ما مأل آدمي وعاء شرا من بطن بحسب ابن آدم أكیالت یقمن صلبھ فإن كان ال محالة فثلث لطعامھ وثلث لشرابھ وثلث لنفسھ

‘A human does not fill a more evil container than a stomach. It is sufficient for the son of Adam to eat small portions by which his back can remain straight. If it is not possible, then he should reserve his stomach, a third for his food, third for his drink and a third for his breathing.’ [Collected by Tirmidhi and he declared it to be Hasan, and by Ibn Majah and Ibn Hibban & Albaani declared it to be Saheeh. No. 2135]

3 – (2136) From Abu Juhayfah -Radhi Allaahu anhu- who said:

‘I had eaten a broth made of bread and meat, then I came to the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- and I began burping. The Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said:

یا ھذا كف عنا من جشائك فإن أكثر الناس شبعا في الدنیا أكثرھم جوعا یوم القیامة

‘O person! Stop your burping, indeed majority of those people who are satiated and full from food in the Dunyaa, will be the hungry on the Day of Judgement.’ [Collected by al-Hakim and he said: Saheeh al Isnad & Albaani declared it to be Saheeh. No. 3136]

‘A human does not fill a vessel more evil than his stomach. It is sufficient for the son of Adam to eat food that would keep his back straight. If it is inevitable (that he eats a full meal) then a third is for his food, a third for his drink and a third for air.’ [Taken from: ‘Silsilah Ahadeeth Saheehah’ No. 2265]

Day 07: Discouraging from concentrating on satisfying the stomach By Shaykh, the Muhaddith, Rabee’ ibn Haadee al-Madkhalee Compiled & Translated by Abbas Abu Yahya

Published by Miraath Publications

Audio and Written Excerpt found here: http://bit.ly/2nkFVce

Shaykh Rabee’ was asked:

‘We heard recently that there is a person who purposefully and intentionally sings the Ayaat from the Book of Allah -Azza wa Jal, so what is the verdict regarding this, BarakAllaahu Feeka?’

The Shaykh answered:

‘Is it in the same way as Umm Khalthoom and the likes of her from singers? The Qur’aan is recited in a melodious way, but in the Arabic way and a natural way.’

The questioner adds: ‘He recites Soorah Fatiha while playing a guitar!’

The Shaykh said:

‘This person is mocking the Ayaat of Allaah Azza wa Jal, this is Kufr (disbelief) and belittling the Qur’aan, downgrading the Qur’aan. Whoever belittles the Qur’aan, then he has disbelieved and apostated. What do those who claim to wage war against al-Irjaa, what type of fatwa do they give; perhaps this singer is from them! !

<< Say: ‘Was it at Allaah, and His Ayaat and His Messenger that you were mocking?’>> [Tawbah: 65]

These people (the Munafiqoon) had said: ‘We have not seen any one from the likes of these people, greedier for their stomachs, greater liars and more cowardly while meeting the enemy.’

These Munafiqeen had mocked the Muslims, so Allaah – Tabaraka wa Ta’ala- made Takfeer of them, due to them making mockery of them due to their religion, so what is the state of the one who directly makes mockery of the Qur’aan and belittles it!’

Day 08: Eating with the Right Hand Compiled & Translated by Abbas Abu Yahya

1 – From Ibn Umar that the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said:

ویشرب بشمالھ وال یأخذ بھا ، وال یعطي بھا الھ إذا أكل أحدكم فلیأكل بیمینھ وإذا شرب فلیشرب بیمینھ فإن الشیطان یأكل بشم

‘If one of you eats them he should eat with his right hand, and if he drinks then he should drink with his right hand, indeed Shaytaan eats with his left hand and drinks with his left hand. A person should not take with his left hand nor give with his left hand.’

[Collected by Muslim]

2 – From Abu Hurairah – Radi Allaahu anhu – that the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said:

‘You should eat with your right hand and drink with your right hand, take with your right hand and give with your right hand, because Shaytaan eats with his left hand and drinks with his left hand and gives with his left hand and takes with his left hand. [Taken from: ‘Silsilah Ahadeeth Saheehah’ No.1236]

A – Ibn AbdulBarr commented:

‘This Hadeeth had the manners of eating and drinking. It is not allowed for anyone to eat with his left hand, nor drink with his left hand. Whoever ate or drank with his left hand, while knowing the prohibition to do so then he is sinful against Allah, even though he does that his food and drink are not unlawful for him.’ [From: ‘al-Tamheed’ 10/42]

B – Al-Hafidh Ahmad bin Ali ibn Hajr al-Assqalani (d.852 A.H.) -Rahimullaah- said:

‘Ibn al-Arabi clearly stated that the person who ate with his left hand is sinful. The evidence he used was that every action ascribed to the Shaytaan is Haraam.’ [From: ‘Fath al-Bari’ 9/433]

Twenty years later I went to perform Hajj, and I found in myself the ability to surpass that rank, so I asked Allaah for a higher rank than before, and I hope that Allaah grants me that rank.’ [From: ‘Juz hadeeth (Mau Zam Zam lema shuriba lahu)’ p.191 – 192] 6 – Shaykh ul-Islaam Ibn Taymeeyah (d.728 A.H.) -Rahimullaah- said: ‘The reality of the issue is that a slave of Allaah is in dire need of asking someone for knowledge and guidance, seeking and asking, then he remembers Allaah and of his dire need of Allaah, then Allaah guides and shows him. Just as Allaah said:

Day 10: The Stages of How Fasting became Obligatory Compiled & Translated by Abbas Abu Yahya

Allaah Ta’ala said:

یام كما كتب على ٱلذین من قبلكم لعلكم تتق أیھا ٱلذین ءامنوا كتب علیكم ٱلص ون ی ن أیام أخر وعلى ٱلذین ی ة م ریضا أو على سفر فعد ت فمن كان منكم م عدود ع خیرا فھو خیر لھۥ أیاما م طیقونھۥ فدیة طعام مسكین فمن تطو

وأن تصوموا خیر لكم إن كنتم تعلمون

-O you who believe! Observing As-Saum (the fast) is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become Al-Muttaqoon.

[Observing Saum (fasts)] for a fixed number of days, but if any of you is ill or on a journey, the same number (should be made up) from other days. And as for those who can fast with difficulty, (e.g. an old man, etc.), they have (a choice either to fast or) to feed a Miskeen (poor person) (for every day). But whoever does good of his own accord, it is better for him. And that you fast, it is better for you if only you know.- [al-Baqarah: 183-184]

From Mu’adh bin Jabal – Radi Allaahu anhu – who said:

‘The prayer was in three stages, and Siyaam (fasting) was in three stages. As for the stages of fasting, then indeed when the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- came to Madina he began fasting three days from every month.

Yazeed mentions that the Messenger fasted seventeen months from Rabia al-Awwaal to Ramadan, three days from every month and he fasted the day of Ashoora.

Then Allaah – Azza wa Jal – obligated him to fast, so Allaah -Azza wa Jal- revealed the Ayaah: – O you who believe! Observing As-Saum (the fasting) is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you- to this Ayaah – And as for those who can fast with difficulty, (e.g. an old man, etc.), they have (a choice either to fast or) to feed a Miskeen (poor person) (for every day).-.’

Mu’adh said: ‘So whoever wanted to fast could fast, and whoever wanted to feed a poor person, then that would compensate for his fast.’

He continued saying: ‘Then, indeed Allaah revealed another Ayaah

– The month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Qur’aan- until the saying of Allaah: [Surat Al-Baqarah 2:185]

– So whoever of you sights (the crescent on the first night of) the month (of Ramadan i.e. is present at his home), he must observe Saum (fasts) that month- [Surat Al-Baqarah 2:185]

Page 17: Bitesize Ramadhaan Articles 1434/2013 - Miraath Publications · Bitesize Ramadhaan Articles 1434/2013 . A series of daily articles (reminders) to be used throughout the month of Ramadhaan,

So Allaah affirmed that a healthy resident person must fast, and permitted the sick person and the traveller not to. Allaah established that the elderly person who was incapable of fasting was allowed to feed someone instead. So these were two stages.

He said: ‘The people would eat, drink and have relations with their wives, as long as they did not sleep, but if they slept then they would keep away from eating, drinking and relations with their wives.

He said: ‘Then there was a man from the Ansaar who was called Sarma, he had continued working while he was fasting until the evening had come in, so he came to his family, prayed the Isha prayer, then slept, and he did not eat anything to the morning. So he was fasting, Mu’adh said: The Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- saw him and he appeared extremely exhausted.

So he -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said to him: ‘Why is it that I see you extremely exhausted?’ He replied: ‘O Messenger of Allaah indeed I worked yesterday, and I came home late, I lay myself down and fell asleep, so in the morning I was fasting.’ Mu’adh said regarding Umar, that he had relations with some of his wives whether from the slave girls or the free women, but this was after he had slept, so he came to the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- and he mentioned that to him, so Allah Azza wa Jal revealed:

– It is made lawful for you to have intimate relations with your wives on the night of As-Saum (the fasts).- till His saying – then complete your Saum (fast) till the nightfall.- [Surat Al-Baqarah 2:187]

Day 11: My Religion has Taught Me Compiled & Translated by Abbas Abu Yahya

1 – Support of Both Husband & Wife

Shaykh Muhammad Bazmool said:

‘A righteous woman may have characteristics which are not pleasing to her husband, however she must not be characterised with that, likewise a righteous man may have characteristics not pleasing to his wife. . . . . what is required from them both is to overlook these characteristics, and view matters in a good light. From Abu Hurairah who said the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said:

ال یفرك مؤمن مؤمنة ، إن كره منھا خلقا رضي منھا آخر

‘A believing man does not hate a believing woman, if he dislikes a behaviour in her, then he will be pleased with another type of behaviour.’ [Collected by Muslim in his Saheeh.]

2 – A Son is From His Father

Shaykh Muhammad Bazmool said:

‘A son is from that which a father strove to acquire, so no matter what good actions he does, the reward reaches his father also. However, no matter what he does of evil deeds they do not reach his father, rather they only reach the son himself.

Allaah said:

{ وأن لیس لإلنسان إال ما سعى}

<And that man can have nothing but what he does (good or bad)> [Najm: 39]

Allaah said:

{ ني أعظك أن تكون من الجاھلین قال یا نوح إنھ لیس من أھلك إنھ عمل غیر صالح فال تسألن ما لیس لك بھ علم إ }

<He said: O Nuh! Surely, he is not of your family; verily, his work is unrighteous, so ask not of Me that of which you have no knowledge! I admonish you so that you should not be one of the ignorant. > [Hud: 46]

Allaah said:

{ بى إنما تنذر الذین یخشون ربھم بالغیب وأقاموا وال تزر وازرة وزر أخرى وإن تدع مثقلة إلى حملھا ال یحمل منھ شيء ولو كان ذا قر الة ومن تزكى فإنما المصیر الص یتزكى لنفسھ وإلى  }

<And no bearer of burdens shall bear another’s burden; and if one heavily laden calls another to bear his load, nothing of it will be lifted even though he be near of kin. You can warn only those who fear their Lord unseen and establish as-Salat (the prayer). And he who purifies himself (from all kinds of sins), then he purifies only for the benefit of his own self. And to Allaah is the final return of all.> [Fatir: 18]

3 – Responsibility of Every Muslim

Shaykh Muhammad Bazmool said:

‘Every Muslim has a flock for which he is responsible. No Muslim carries a responsibility for another person, and a Muslim has a contract that he will not contest the command of those who hold that authority.

From Ibn Umar from the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- that he said:

“ جل راع على أھل بیتھ وھو مسئول أال كلكم راع وكلكم مسئول عن رعیتھ فاألمیر الذي على الناس راع وھو مسئول عن رعیتھ والرده وھو مسئول عنھ أال فكلكم راع وكلكم مسئول ھم والمرأة راعیة على بیت بعلھا وولده وھي مسئولة عنھم والعبد راع على مال سی عن

”عن رعیتھ

‘Indeed you are all shepherds and every one of you is responsible for his flock. So the leader of the people is a shepherd and he is responsible for his flock, and a man is a shepherd for the people of his household and he is responsible for them. A woman is a shepherd for her husband’s home, and her children, and she is responsible for them. A slave is a shepherd for his master’s wealth and he is responsible for it. Indeed all of you are shepherds and every one of you is responsible for his flock.’ [Collected by Bukhari & Muslim]

Some of the people request from other people to fulfill that what is obligatory upon other than themselves, so they end up dragging Islaam and the Muslims into chaos and corruption. From that is the matters of and for the country and what is connected to those issues, from the matters and activities of the one in authority, and repelling any harm between countries is from the right of the one in authority. Therefore, the matter is entrusted to him, and he is not contested in that. As for the general folk rising up to repel that, then this is contesting the authority of those who posses it. It is upon us to convey to those who are in authority what we want, and they deal with it not us.

From Ubadah bin Samit -Radhi Allaahu anhu- who said:

“ صل علیھ وسلم على السمع والطاعة في العسر والیسر والمنشط والمكره وعلى أثر بایعنا رسول ة علینا وعلى أن ال ننازع ى ” لومة الئم األمر أھلھ وعلى أن نقول بالحق أینما كنا ال نخاف في

‘We made an allegiance with the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- to hear and obey, in ease and hardship, in that which we like and dislike, even if we are not given our due rights. And that we do not contest the authority of its people, and that we speak the truth where ever we are, we do not fear for the sake of Allaah the blame of the blamers.’ [Collected by Bukhari & Muslim]

Day 12: Only Performing one Umrah in one Journey Compiled & Translated by Abbas Abu Yahya

Published by Miraath Publications

Audio and Written Excerpt found here: http://bit.ly/2oRn2dX

Shamsuddeen Muhammad bin Abee Bakr Ibn Qayyim aj-Jawzeeyah (d.751 A.H.) -Rahimullaah- said:

‘The Messenger -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- would not perform an extra Umrah exiting out of Makkah, after already having performed one, as many of the people do nowadays. Rather all the Umrahs that the Messenger performed were upon entering Makkah.

He -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- lived in Makkah for thirteen years after the revelation had first descended, and it is not reported from the outset about him that he performed Umrah exiting from Makkah in that time period.

So, the Umrah that the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- performed and legislated, is the Umrah of entering into Makkah, there is no Umrah for the person who is in Makkah and he goes outside the boundary of Makkah whereby he can enter again and perform Umrah. This was not ever done by anyone at the time of the Prophet, except by ‘Aeysha alone out of all those who were with her. This was because she had made the intention and entered into Ihram but had begun her menstrual cycle. So the Prophet ordered her to connect up her Umrah with the Hajj, and informed her that her Tawaf of the House and going between Safa and Marwa, would indeed be sufficient for her Hajj and Umrah together (instead of performing a separate Umrah).

So she found that her female companions were returning with a Hajj and a separate Umrah, since they had intended to perform Hajj at-Tamattu (with an Umrah and a Hajj), and they had not begun their menstrual cycle and did not have to combine their Umrah in with the Hajj. However, she would have only returned with an Umrah within her Hajj, so he -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- ordered her brother to take her to perform an Umrah from at-Tan’eem, to soothe her heart, and her brother did not perform an Umrah from Tan’eem in that Hajj nor did anyone else from those who were with him.’ [Taken from: ‘Zad al-Ma’ad’ 1/94]

Muhammad Nasir- Deen Al-Albaani (d.1420A.H) -Rahimullaah- was asked:

‘Is it permissible for me to perform Umrah twice in one journey, since I am from Jordan. The first one from Abyaar Ali (the local name for the Meeqat Dhul Hulayfah just outside Madina), and the second from at-Tan’eem (outskirts of Makkah), just like ‘Aeysha -Radhi Allaahu anha. If this is not permissible, then can I perform it for my deceased father or mother? May Allah reward you with goodness.

The Shaykh answered: ‘The person who wants to repeat an Umrah then it is necessary for him to return to the Meeqat from whence he entered into Ihraam, whether that is for his own self or for his parents. As for entering into Ihraam from at-Tan’eem, from whence the Noble lady ‘Aeysha entered into Ihraam, then this ruling is specific for ‘Aeysha and those who are in a similar condition to her.

I term this Umrah from at-Tan’eem as the Umrah of the menstruating woman. The reason for this is because when ‘Aeysha -Radhi Allaahu anha- went out with the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- to perform the farewell Hajj, and she had entered into Ihraam to perform Umrah, but when she reached a place close to Makkah, known as ‘Sarif’ the Messenger -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- entered upon her and found her crying. So he said to her:

Page 21: Bitesize Ramadhaan Articles 1434/2013 - Miraath Publications · Bitesize Ramadhaan Articles 1434/2013 . A series of daily articles (reminders) to be used throughout the month of Ramadhaan,

‘Why are you crying? Have you started your menstrual cycle?’ She replied: ‘Yes, O Messenger of Allaah.’

He –sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said:

في وال تصليھذا أمر قد كتبھ هللا على بنات آدم، فاصنعي ما یصنع الحاج غیر أال تطو

‘This is a matter which Allaah has written for the daughters of Adam, so do that which the person performing Hajj does, except do not perform the Tawaf and do not perform the Salat.’

So she did not perform the Tawaf or the Salat until she had become clean in Araafat, then she continued with the rites of Hajj and accomplished Hajj completely. When the Messenger -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- had decided to travel and return to Madina, he entered upon ‘Aeysha in her tent and again he found her crying.

He asked her: ‘What is wrong with you?’

She said: ‘What is wrong with me? The people are returning with Hajj and Umrah, and I am returning with Hajj without Umrah.’

The reason was because her menstruation had caused her Umrah to be changed to a Hajj, a Hajj Mufrad (Hajj without Umrah), so here she is saying, she is crying out of grief of what she missed out from performing an Umrah before performing the Hajj, whereas her co-wives like Umm Salamah and other than her, returned with Umrah and Hajj, and that is why was crying.

She said: ‘Why should I not cry? The people are returning with a Hajj and Umrah and I am returning with a Hajj.’

So the Messenger -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- had compassion on her and ordered her brother AbdurRahmaan bin Abi Bakr as-Siddiq to accompany her, with him on his camel and go out with her to at-Tan’eem. So he did that and she returned, and performed an Umrah and soothed her soul.

This is why we say, if a woman is afflicted with that which had afflicted ‘Aeysha from amongst the women, whereby her menstrual cycle started, while she wanted to perform Umrah, and she could not complete the Umrah, so that her Umrah was changed into a Hajj. So here a woman can perform Umrah in place of what she missed out on, in the same way that Allaah legislated upon the tongue of His Messenger for ‘Aeysha, so the woman who was menstruating goes out again to at-Tan’eem and comes and performs an Umrah.

As for men then, Alhamdulillah they do not menstruate so they do not take the ruling of the menstruating woman. The proof is, as some of the scholars of Seerah and history of the Companions, say: a hundred thousand Companions performed Hajj with the Messenger, not one of them did an Umrah the like of the Umrah of ‘Aeysha -Radhi Allaahu anha, so if that was something good then they would have proceeded us in that action. Therefore, the person who wants to perform an Umrah returns to the Meeqat and enters into Ihraam from there, whether for himself or for his mother and father.

This is sufficient and praise be to Allaah Lord of all the worlds.’

Day 13: From the Plots of Shaytaan is to make Mankind Excessive & Wasteful in all Matters Compiled & Translated by Abbas Abu Yahya

Published by Miraath Publications

Audio and Written Excerpt found here: http://bit.ly/2qDzzpK

Shaykh ul-Islaam Ibn Taymeeyah (d.728) -Rahimullaah- said:

‘The Shaytaan wants mankind to be excessive and wasteful in all his matters. Indeed, if the Shaytaan sees him inclining towards mercy excessively, then the Shaytaan beautifies mercy from so much so that the human does not hate that which Allaah hates, nor is he protective over that which Allaah is protective.

And if the Shaytaan sees him inclining to harshness for him for other than Allaah’s sake, so much so that he leaves off being good, piety, gentleness, keeping good relations and mercy which Allaah and His Messenger have ordered, then the human transcends in his harshness, so he increases in criticism, hate and the infliction of punishment to the degree at that which Allaah and His Messenger do not love. So this person leaves that which Allaah commands, of mercy and being good and he is rebuked for this and is sinful in this.

He is excessive and wasteful in regard to harshness more so than that which Allaah and His Messenger have ordered, so much so that he transcends the boundaries, and that is excessiveness in Allaah’s commands, so the first is sinful and the second is excessive and wasteful, and Allaah does not love the wasteful ones.’

Day 14: Knowledge & Actions By Shaykh Rabia’ ibn Haadee al-Madkhalee Compiled & Translated by Abbas Abu Yahya

Published by Miraath Publications

Audio and Written Excerpt found here: http://bit.ly/2nLV8hT

1 – Shaykh Rabia’ said:

‘Learning knowledge should be for the sake of Allaah’s Face, and also for acting upon that knowledge, otherwise knowledge will have an evil consequence, so the person remains between two illnesses, either the illness of ignorance or the illness of knowledge which is not beneficial, but rather harmful.

The knowledge which Muhammad -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- came with is in itself beneficial. However, if a person does not act upon it then it becomes an evil consequence for him, and harmful for him, and perhaps it could harm others.’

2 – Shaykh Rabia’ said:

‘What is required from learning knowledge, is acting upon it, and action cannot come except after knowledge. As Allaah Tabaraka wa Ta’ala said:

واستغفر ھ إال لذنبك وللمؤمنین والمؤمنات فاعلم أنھ ال إل

-So know that Lâ ilâha ill-Allaah (none has the right to be worshipped but Allaah), and ask forgiveness for your sin, and also for (the sin of) believing men and believing women.- [Muhammad: 19]

Bukhari wrote a chapter heading ‘Chapter: Knowledge comes before Statements and Actions’ because it is obligatory upon us not to act except with knowledge, and not worship Allaah except with knowledge, so we do not worship Allaah Subhanahu – with ignorance or following desires.’

3 – Shaykh Rabia’ said:

‘The way of those misguided from the people of the Book who learnt knowledge but did not act upon it, is that their hearts became hard, and most of them became evil…. . .

If this hardness afflicts the heart then it destroys it. . . . .

So it does not accept the truth, and does not act with knowledge and refuge is sought with Allaah, and it leads to hiding knowledge and acting in opposition to knowledge. . .. .

It leads to following whims and rejection of the truth, which is clear like the sun. . . . . ’

Day 15: The status of the Sunnah in Islamic Legislation By Shaykh Muhammad Amaan al-Jami Compiled & Translated by Abbas Abu Yahya

The Shaykh said in his explanation of how the Sunnah came to explain the Qur’aan:

Fasting

Indeed the Noble Qur’aan dealt with this pillar with some aspect of elaboration in the saying of Allaah Ta’ala:

یام كما كتب على ٱلذین من قبلكم أیھا ٱلذین ءامنوا كتب علیكم ٱلص ة ی ریضا أو على سفر فعد ت فمن كان منكم م عدود لعلكم تتقون أیاما من أیام أخر م

– O you who believe! Observing As-Saum(the fasting) is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become Al-Muttaqûn (the pious). [Observing Saum (fasts)] for a fixed number of days, but if any of you is ill or on a journey, the same number (should be made up) from other days. – [Surat Al-Baqarah 2:184]

up to where Allaah said:

ة بكم ٱلیسر وال یرید بكم ٱلعسر فمن شھد منكم ٱلشھر فلیصمھ ومن كان مریضا أو على سفر فعد ن أیام أخر یرید ٱ م

-So whoever of you sights (the crescent on the first night of) the month (of Ramadan i.e. is present at his home), he must observe Saum (fasts) that month, and whoever is ill or on a journey, the same number [of days which one did not observe Saum (fasts) must be made up] from other days. Allaah intends for you ease, and He does not want to make things difficult for you. – [Surat Al-Baqarah 2:185]

and Allaah said in explaining this clarification:

كفون في وكلوا وٱشربوا حتى یتبین لكم ٱلخیط ٱألبیض من ٱلخیط ٱألسود من شروھن وأنتم ع یام إلى ٱلیل وال تب وا ٱلص ٱلفجر ثم أتم فال تقرب جد تلك حدود ٱ تھۦ للناس لعلھم یتقون ٱلمس ءای لك یبین ٱ وھا كذ

-and eat and drink until the white thread (light) of dawn appears to you distinct from the black thread (darkness of night), then complete your Saum(fast) till the nightfall. And do not have intimate relations with them (your wives) while you are in I’tikâf (i.e. confining oneself in a mosque for prayers and invocations leaving the worldly activities) in the mosques. These are the limits (set) by Allaah, so approach them not. Thus does Allaah make clear His Ayat (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs, revelations, verses, laws, legal and illegal things, Allaah’s set limits, orders, etc.) to mankind that they may become Al-Muttaqûn(the pious )-.[Surat Al-Baqarah 2:187]

After this Qur’aanic clarification, what remains are the rulings mentioned by the Sunnah, which are singled out only in the Sunnah. From them is the ruling on the one who had relations with his wife during the day while he was fasting, then what is upon him? !

From those rulings is he who ate or drank forgetfully during the day in Ramadan, what should he do? !

From those rulings is about the person who does not stop lying, giving false testimony and acting upon it, while he is fasting. What is the gravity of his sin and disobedience, and is his fast correct or void.

Page 25: Bitesize Ramadhaan Articles 1434/2013 - Miraath Publications · Bitesize Ramadhaan Articles 1434/2013 . A series of daily articles (reminders) to be used throughout the month of Ramadhaan,

The Sunnah clarified the expiation for the person who had relations with his wife in Ramadan. Likewise, it explained for the person who ate or drank forgetfully, that it is upon him to complete his fast. Since indeed it was Allah who fed him and gave him drink, and gave him this charity, which does not harm his fast!!

The Sunnah brings a text about the person who does not stop giving false testification and acting upon it, and calls to it, then Allaah has no need of a person leaving his food and his drink.

A group from the people of knowledge said, and this is not belittled, that lying and what is similar to it corrupts Fasting, which is taken from the apparent Hadeeth, indicated to previously, this is a Hadeeth whose authenticity is agreed upon, even though the majority of the people of knowledge differed with them in this issue, the research of this issue is well known in the books of Fiqh.

All we want to say here is that the Sunnah partakes in explaining Ahkam (Rulings), even in this subject of fasting, which the Qur’aan has elaborated. The Sunnah clarifies it as in the saying of the Messenger –Alayhi as-Salat wa Salam-:

أوتیت القرآن ومثلھ معھ

‘I was given the Qur’aan and the like of it with it.’ And that is the pure Sunnah. Likewise the saying of the Messenger –Alayhi as-Salat wa Salam-:

إن ما حرم رسول هللا كما حرم هللا وما أحلھ رسول هللا كما أحلھ هللا

‘Indeed what the Messenger of Allaah made Haram, is like what Allaah made Haram, and what the Messenger of Allaah made Halaal is like what Allaah made Halaal.’ Or as the Messenger of Allaah –Alayhi as-Salat wa Salam- said.

Day 16: Inanimate Objects have Feelings Compiled & Translated by Abbas Abu Yahya

Published by Miraath Publications

Audio and Written Excerpt found here: http://bit.ly/2paoUOi

Shaykh Muhammad bin Salih al-Uthaymeen (d.1421 A.H.) said:

‘How can Allaah Ta’ala offer a trust to the Heavens, the earth and the mountains when they are inanimate objects?

Allaah said:

Truly, We did offer Al¬-Amanah (the trust or moral responsibility or honesty and all the duties which Allaah has ordained) to the heavens and the earth, and the mountains, but they declined to bear it and were afraid of it (i.e. afraid of Allaah’s Torment). But man bore it. Verily, he was unjust (to himself) and ignorant (of its results). [Ahzab: 72]

Shaykh al-Uthaymeen said in his explanation of this Ayaah:

‘If a person says, how can Allaah Ta’ala offer a trust to the Heavens, the earth and the mountains when they are inanimate, they do not have intellect or feelings?

The Answer: That according to Allaah –Azza wa Jal- every inanimate object has an intellect which it understands and follows a command.

Do you not see the statement of Allaah Ta’ala which the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- informed about:

‘Indeed when Allaah Ta’ala created the Pen He said to it write.’

So Allaah addressed the Pen and it is an inanimate object. The pen asked: ‘What shall I write?’ Because the matter was general and unclear, and it is not possible to follow a general, unclear command except with a clarification.

Allaah said: ‘Write what will exist till the Day of Judgement.’ [Silsilah: 133 similar wording]

1 – From Abu Mu’aqal Radhi Allaahu anhumma- from the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- who said:

عمرة في رمضان، تعدل حجة

‘Umrah in Ramadan is equivalent to a Hajj.’

[Collected by Ibn Majah & Albaani declared it Saheeh Lighayrihi in Saheeh Targheeb wa Tarheeb No. 1120.]

2 – From Ibn Abbas Radhi Allaahu anhumma- who said: the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said to a woman from the Ansaar:

‘What prevented you from performing Hajj along with us?’

She replied: ‘We did not have except two watering camels, so my son’s father and my son performed Hajj on one, and the other was left for us to get water.’

The Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said:

فإذا كان رمضان اعتمري فیھ، فإن عمرة في رمضان حجة

‘When Ramadan comes perform Umrah, indeed an Umrah in Ramadan is equivalent to a Hajj.’

[Collected by Bukhari in the Chapter: Umrah in Ramadan & by Muslim in the chapter: Excellence of Umrah in Ramadan]

In another narration:

‘Since indeed an Umrah in Ramadan is performing a Hajj with me.’

Day 18: Explanation of the Ayaah: ‘O you who believe! Fear Allaah (by doing all that He has ordered and by abstaining from all that He has forbidden) as He should be feared.’ By AbdulMuhsin bin Hamd al-Abaad al-Badr Compiled & Translated by Abbas Abu Yahya

Published by Miraath Publications

Audio and Written Excerpt found here: http://bit.ly/2pajdQo

The saying of Allaah Ta’ala:

حق تقاتھ وال تموتن إال وأنتم مسلمون یا أیھا الذین آمنوا اتقوا

– O you who believe! Fear Allaah (by doing all that He has ordered and by abstaining from all that He has forbidden) as He should be feared. [Obey Him, be thankful to Him, and remember Him always], and die not except in a state of Islaam (as Muslims) with complete submission to Allaah. – [Ala-Imraan 3:102]

The Shaykh said: ‘Having Taqwa of Allaah – Azza wa Jal – is that a slave of Allaah places between himself and the anger of Allaah a prevention which protects him from it, and that is by carrying out Allaah’s obedience and keeping away from sinning.

To have Taqwa of Allaah and to fear Him truthfully is to obey Him and not to sin against Him, to remember Him and not to forget Him, to be thankful to Him and not to disbelieve in Him. This is how Abdullaah bin Mas’ood explained it as was narrated by Ibn Katheer from Ibn Abi Hatim with an authentic chain.’

Shaykh AbdulMuhsin continues: ‘As for the saying of Allaah Ta’ala: – and don’t you dare die except in a state of Islaam – the meaning is, adhere to Islaam and be continuous upon it, until and when the appointed time of your death arrives, your death comes while you are in a good state, so that your ending is sealed in a good way.

The Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- had said:

أحب األعمال إلى هللا أدومھا وإن قل

‘The most beloved of actions to Allaah Ta’ala are those that are done continuously even if they are few.’ [Collected by Bukhari & Muslim this is his wording.]

In Saheeh Muslim from the Hadeeth of Abdullah bin Amr bin al-Aaass – Radi Allaahu anhu– and in it is the saying of the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam:

والیوم اآلخر، ولیأت إلى الناس الذي یحب أن یؤتي إلیھ من أحب أن یزحزح عن النار، ویدخل الجنة، فلتأتھ منیتھ وھو یؤمن با

‘Whoever would love that he is kept far away from the Fire and is entered into Paradise, then let his death come while he believes in Allaah and the Hereafter, and he should deal with the people as he wishes to be dealt.’

The meaning of this hadeeth is similar to the meaning of the Ayaah, that one should adhere to al Eemaan and be continuous upon it until death.’ [Taken from ‘Min Kanooz al-Qur’aan al-Kareem’ P.59]

Day 19: Dividing the Taraweeh Prayer in the Last Ten nights of Ramadan Compiled & Translated by Abbas Abu Yahya

Published by Miraath Publications

Audio and Written Excerpt found here: http://bit.ly/2oRo6i1

1 – Abu Dawood as-Sijistani (d. 275 A.H.) said:

‘Imam Ahmad was asked while I was listening: Should the Qayyam – meaning the Taraweeh prayer – be delayed to the last part of the night?

He -Rahimullaah- answered:

‘No, the Sunnah of the Muslims is more beloved to me.’ [From: Masa’il Abee Dawood’ p.90]

2 – Al-Marwazi quotes from Imraan bin Haydar -Rahimullaah-:

I sent a question to al-Hasan -Rahimullaah- and I asked him about the Isha prayer in Ramadan, should we pray it then return to our homes and sleep then return to the Masjid after wards?

He rejected that and said: ‘No, Salatul- Isha then the Qayaam.’ [From ‘Qayyam al-Layl’ by al-Marwazi]

3 – Shaykh ul-Islaam Ibn Taymeeyah (d.728 A.H.) -Rahimullaah- said:

‘…and Taraweeh prayer is a Sunnah after the Isha prayer.’ [From: ‘Mukhtasir al-Fatawa’ by Baali p.81]

And he also said:

‘The Sunnah of the Taraweeh prayer is that it is prayed after the end of the Isha prayer, as is agreed upon by the Salaf and the Imams.’ [From: ‘Majmoo Fatawa’ 23/119]

4 – Shaykh Muhammad Nasir- Deen Al-Albaani (d.1420A.H) -Rahimullaah- was asked:

Questioner: ‘In the last ten nights of Ramadan, they divide up the prayer, the night prayer at the first part of the night, and the last part of the night, and this has become a continuous practice.’

The Shaykh: ‘Bida’.

Questioner: ‘How would it be then if we wanted to establish the Sunnah and make it easy for the people?’

The Shaykh: ‘They presume the like of what Umar had said, that and the prayer that they delay is better. Meaning that Umar ordered Ubayy bin Ka’ab to establish the night prayer with the people after the Isha prayer, so he did so, and when Umar went out he said: ‘This is a blessed Bida’ and the prayer they sleep over (i.e. praying later in the night) is better.’

The questioner: ‘So you mean that the situation of the night prayer is the same as it was before the last ten nights?’

The Shaykh: ‘Yes.’ [From: ‘Silsilah al-Huda wa Noor’ Tape no. 719]

‘Shaykh Albaani commented on this statement of Umar, quoting al-Hafidh saying:

‘This is a clarification from Umar that the prayer at the last part of the night is better than the first part of the night, however, there is not in his statement that the prayer in Qayyam al-Layl, prayed individually is better than in congregation.’

Albaani added:

‘I say: rather, congregating in the first part of the time is better than individually praying it in the last part of the night.’ [From: ‘Salatul Taraweeh’ by Shaykh Albaani p.42]

Day 20: Not Praying the Sunnah Prayer Directly after the Obligatory Prayer By Shaykh Muhammad Nasir- Deen Al-Albaani (d.1420A.H) Compiled & Translated by Abbas Abu Yahya

Published by Miraath Publications

Audio and Written Excerpt found here: http://bit.ly/2nM7l67

From Abdullaah bin Rabaha from a man who was from the Companions of the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- that the Messenger of Allaah had prayed the Asr prayer, and this man stood up to pray. Umar saw him and said to him sit down, since indeed the people of the book were destroyed because they did not leave a gap after their prayer.

The Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said to him:

سن ابن الخطابأح

‘You have done well O Ibn Khattab!’

[Collected by Ahmad, its Isnad is Saheeh.]

Shaykh Albaani said: ‘This hadeeth is a clear text in that it is prohibited to hasten to pray the Sunnah prayer after the obligatory prayer without speaking or leaving the Masjid, like many of the non-Arabs do, and especially the Turks. Indeed we see them in the Haramain Sharafain (the holy Masjid in Makkah and the Prophet’s Masjid in Madina), the Imaam is about to give the Salam from the prayer, except that these people hasten, from over here and over there standing to pray the Sunnah!

Shaykh Rabee’ said: ‘It has not been possible for any country, throughout history, to make all its people wealthy. So, it is necessary that there will be a presence of poor people and the rich, subordinates and leaders, the ignorant and scholars, foolish people and intelligent people. This is the universal Sunnah (way) of Allaah of His creation.

Allaah Ta’ala said:

زق لمن یشاء ویقدر إنھ كان بعباده خبیرا بصیرا إن ربك یبسط الر

– Truly, your Lord enlarges the provision for whom He wills and straitens (for whom He wills). Verily, He is Ever All-Knower, All-Seer of His slaves.- [Isra:30]

Allaah Ta’ala said:

نیا في اآلخ نیا وما الحیاة الد زق لمن یشاء ویقدر وفرحوا بالحیاة الد رة إال متاع یبسط الر

– Allaah increases the provision for whom He wills, and straitens (it for whom He wills), and they rejoice in the life of the world, whereas the life of this world as compared with the Hereafter is but a brief passing enjoyment.- [Ra’ad: 26]

Allah Ta’ala said:

زق لمن یشاء من عباده ویقدر لھ إن یبسط الر بكل شيء علیم

– Allaah enlarges the provision for whom He wills of His slaves, and straitens it for whom (He wills). Verily, Allaah is the All-¬Knower of everything. – [Ankaboot: 62]

Allaah Ta’ala said:

یبس زق لمن یشاء ویقدر إن في ذلك آلیات لقوم یؤمنون أولم یروا أن ط الر

– Do they not see that Allaah enlarges the provision for whom He wills and straitens (it for whom He wills). Verily, in that are indeed signs for a people who believe. – [Room: 37]

Allaah Ta’ala said:

ن شيء فھو یخلف زق لمن یشاء من عباده ویقدر لھ وما أنفقتم م ازقین قل إن ربي یبسط الر ھ وھو خیر الر

– Say: ‘Truly, my Lord enlarges the provision for whom He wills of His slaves, and (also) restricts (it) for him, and whatsoever you spend of anything (in Allaah’s Cause), He will replace it. And He is the Best of providers.’ – [Saba: 39]

Allaah Ta’ala said:

زق لعباده لبغوا في األ الر ا یشاء إنھ بعباده خبیر بصیر ولو بسط ل بقدر م رض ولكن ینز

– And if Allaah were to enlarge the provision for His slaves, they would surely rebel in the earth, but He sends down by measure as He wills. Verily! He is in respect of His slaves, the Well-Aware, the All-Seer (of things that benefit them). – [Shuraa: 27]

Therefore Allaah extends provisions (ar-Rizq) for whom He wills, and He restricts it for whom He wills, due to a Perfect Wisdom from Him, and as a test for His worshippers and also as an affliction.

Will the poor, whose provision is constrained for them, be patient so that He will reward them for their patience.

Will the rich be grateful for the blessings of Allaah upon them, or will they reject the blessings and be haughty because of the wealth.

So Allaah will reward the grateful with reward due to their gratefulness. He will punish those who disbelieve in His blessings, with a deserving punishment.’

Day 22: Preserving Good Deeds from Envy By Shaykh ul-Islaam Ibn Taymeeyah (d.728) -Rahimullaah- Compiled & Translated by Abbas Abu Yahya

Published by Miraath Publications

Audio and Written Excerpt found here: http://bit.ly/2nLOGaQ

Shaykh ul-Islaam Ibn Taymeeyah -Rahimullaah- mentions in his explanation of the saying of Allaah Ta’ala:

عا وخفیة إنھ الیحب المعتدین …ادعوا ربكم تضر

Invoke your Lord with humility and in secret. [al-Aaraaf: 55]

there are ten benefits of hiding your Dua’, and from amongst these benefits he said:

‘Indeed the greatest of blessings is turning to Allaah and worshipping Him. Every blessing has the equivalent of it being envied by an envious person, whether openly or secretly. There is no greater blessing than of turning to Allaah and worshipping Him [making Dua’], indeed the souls of the envious are attached to that blessing. There is nothing more secure for the person who is envied than hiding his blessing from the envious person. Indeed Yaqoob said to Yusuf -alayhi as-Sallam:

قال یا بني ال تقصص رؤیاك على إخوتك فیكیدوا لك كیدا

< < O my son! Relate not your vision to your brothers, lest they arrange a plot against you. > >

till the end of the Ayaah.

How many of the people who have hearts, a connection and status with Allaah Ta’ala may perhaps have spoken about it, and informed people about it, and the envious one tried to plunder him over these blessings.

This is why the righteous and elderly are advised to keep their secrets with Allaah Ta’ala, and not to allow anyone to be acquainted with them. This issue of hiding the blessing is of great benefit, its people know is benefits. Therefore, if it is commanded to do so in your Dua’/supplications, then this also includes the Dua’ for requesting this, and the Dua’ of praising Allaah.

Living and turning to Allaah Ta’ala is from the great treasures which has a right to be hidden from the eyes of the envious.’

1 – Teaching Children Tawheed

Imam Shamsuddeen Muhammad bin Ahmad bin Uthmaan ad-Dhahabi (d.748 A.H.) -Rahimullaah- said:

‘It is upon the parents to teach their children, the young ones, first things first; that what is obligatory to be kept away from, and what is necessary to carry out, and his belief. So the father should study with, and remind his son with the matter of Tawheed and that Allaah is the Lord of the worlds. He is the Creator of things, the One who provides for the living, and that Muhammad is His Prophet and that Islam is his religion so that the child is familiar with these matters and he instils this in his nature.

When the child is able to distinguish, he is taught the Wudu and the prayer, and he is warned against Zina, stealing, lying, against eating Haraam, blood and dead animals etc. And when he is mature then what the Pen wrote comes to pass.’

[From ‘Masail fee Talb al-Ilm wa Aqssameehi’ p.202-203 / from kalimaat p.73]

2 – Love For Abu Bakr & Umar

The advice of Imam Malik bin Anas -Rahimullaah- was: ‘The Salaf used to teach their children love for Abu Bakr and Umar just like they would teach a Soorah of the Qur’aan.’

[From: ‘Sharh Usool I’tiqaad Ahl-Ul-Sunnah wal-Jama’ah’ – al-Laala’ka’ee (d. 418 A.H.) No. 2325]

3 – Warning Children against the Rawafidah

From Hamad bin Salamah who said: I heard Ayyoob saying:

‘Whoever loved Abu Bakr then he has indeed established his Deen, and whoever has loved Umar then he has indeed made the path clear, and whoever loved Uthmaan then he has indeed become enlightened with the light of Allaah and whoever loved Alee then he has held on to a firm handhold which will not break.’ Hamad said: I asked Ayyoob: ‘Should we memorise this?’ He answered: ‘Yes, memorise it, teach it to your children, and your children should teach it to their children.’

Shaykh ul-Islaam Ibn Taymeeyah (d.728) -Rahimullaah- said:

<<Verily! He has no power over those who believe and put their trust only in their Lord (Allaah). His power is only over those who obey and follow him (Satan), and those who join partners with Him (Allaah) [i.e. those who are Mushrikûn – polytheists>> [Nahl: 99-100]

and when the Shaytaan said:

لھم في األرض وألغوینھم أجمعین قال رب بما أغویتني ألزینن

<< [Iblîs (Satan)] said: ‘O my Lord! Because You misled me, I shall indeed adorn the path of error for them (mankind) on the earth, and I shall mislead them all. >> [al-Hijr: 39] Allaah Ta’ala said:

Allaah Ta’ala said:

Therefore, the people who have sincerity and al-Eemaan then the Shaytaan has no authority over them.’ [From: ‘Naboowaat’ p.400]

Shaykh ul-Islaam Ibn Taymeeyah said in another place:

‘As for the clear well-known Bida’, like the Bida of the Khawarij, Rawafidah, Qadareeyah and the Murjia’, then nothing of the sort was known of that from the Companions. Rather their well-established statements indicate then being in agreement with the Book and the Sunnah.

Likewise, also what was not known from them was that the people of the unseen (Jinn etc) would gather with them with Khidr or other than him.

Also that the Prophets would come to them in a conscious state and they would carry them to Arafat etc. This is what occurs a lot from the ignorant worshippers. They thought that this was a blessing (a sign) from Allaah, but rather it is Shaytaan deviating them.

The Shayateen were unsuccessful in their greed to make the Companions fall into the likes of this. Indeed they used to know that all of this was from the Shaytaan, and the people of the unseen were the Jinn.

Allaah Ta’ala said:

ن الجن فزادوھم رھقا ن اإلنس یعوذون برجال م وأنھ كان رجال م

<< ‘And verily, there were men among mankind who took shelter with the masculine among the Jinns, but they (Jinns) increased them (mankind) in sin and disbelief. >> [Jinn: 6]

Likewise, the Shaytaan was unsuccessful in causing the Companions from making Shirk with the inmates of graves.’

‘Ali bin al-Hussain used to teach his son saying: ‘say: I have believed in Allaah and disbelieved in Taghoot (false deities). [Aamantu Billaahi wa Kafartu biTaghoot]’ [Collected by Ibn Abi Shaybah]

3 – Shaykh Albaani said:

‘So O you Muslim, it is obligatory upon you, an individual obligation that you hasten to know and acquaint yourself with the pure Tawheed, and what nullifies it from Shirk. That is done by studying the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of His Messenger -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam.

Indeed whoever adheres to them will be successful, and whoever deviates away from it, becomes misguided. Allaah’s help is sought.’ [From: ‘Hajjatul Nabee -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam’ p.8]

Day 26: Calling to Tawheed is the First Priority Compiled & Translated by Abbas Abu Yahya

Published by Miraath Publications

Audio and Written Excerpt found here: http://bit.ly/2oaKyV6

From Ibn Abbas -Radhi Allaahu anhu- who said:

‘When the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- sent Mu’adh towards the people of Yemen, he -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said to him:

‘Indeed you are going to a group from the people of the Book, so the first thing that you should call them to is that they single out Allaah –Ta’ala – alone with worship. So when they come to know this, then inform them that Allaah has obligated upon them five payers in their day and night, so when they pray, inform them that Allaah has obligated a Zakat from their wealth. Which is taken from their rich and given to their poor. If they accept this, then take it from them and beware of taking the best wealth of the people.’

[Collected by Bukhari, Muslim & the books of Sunnan]

First things First

Shaykh Salih al Fawzan said:

‘Beginning with first things first, is that firstly one should begin with correcting the Aqeedah, by commanding with having Ikhlaas (sincerity) for Allaah in worship, and prohibiting Shirk.

Then by ordering with establishing the prayer, and paying the Zakat, and fulfilling the obligatory duties and leaving the prohibited actions, as was the way of all the Prophets, like Allaah Ta’ala said:

And verily, We have sent among every Ummah (nation) a Messenger (proclaiming): Worship Allaah (Alone), and avoid (or keep away from) Tâghût (all false deities, etc. i.e. do not worship Tâghût besides Allaah. – [Nahl: 36]

And Allaah Ta’ala said:

ھ إال أنا فاعبدون وما أرسلنا م ن قبلك من رسول إال نوحي إلیھ أنھ ال إل

And We did not send any Messenger before you but We inspired him (saying): Lâ ilâha illa Ana [none has the right to be worshipped but I (Allaah)], so worship Me (Alone and none else).’ – [Anbiyya: 25]

as well as many other Ayaat.

‘When the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- sent Mu’adh towards the people of Yemen, he said to him:

Page 40: Bitesize Ramadhaan Articles 1434/2013 - Miraath Publications · Bitesize Ramadhaan Articles 1434/2013 . A series of daily articles (reminders) to be used throughout the month of Ramadhaan,

‘Indeed you are going to a group from the people of the Book, so the first thing that you should call them to is that they single out Allaah –Ta’ala – alone with worship. So when they come to know this, then inform them that Allaah has obligated upon them five payers in their day and night…..’ To the end of the Hadeeth.

The best example is in the way and biography of the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam, and the most perfect Manhaj (methodology), whereby he -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- spent many years calling the people to Tawheed, and prohibiting them from Shirk, before he commanded them with the Prayer, Zakat, Fasting, Hajj and before he prohibited them from Ribaa (interest), stealing and murder.’

[From: The introduction to ‘Manhaj al-Anbiyya Fee Dawa ila Allaah’ by Shaykh Rabee al -Mudkhali p.7]

The Sunnah in Practice & Teaching

Muhammad Nasir- Deen Al-Albaani (d.1420A.H) -Rahimullaah- said:

‘This was how the Sunnah of the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- was in practice and in teaching. As for his action: then this does not require research, since the Prophet’s -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- actions in the Makkan period and his Dawa’ was generally calling his people to the worship of Allaah and that He had no partners.

As for in teaching: then there is the Hadeeth of Anas bin Malik -Radhi Allaahu anhu-, which is mentioned in Bukhari and Muslim: that when the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- sent Mu’adh to Yemen he said to him: ‘So the first thing that you should call them to is that they single out Allaah –Ta’ala – alone with worship. So when they come to know this…’ to the end of the Hadeeth, and this is well-known and famous, Inshallaah.

Therefore, the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- ordered his companions to begin with what he began with, and that is Dawa’ to Tawheed.’

Day 27: Benefits of Eemaan in Qadr By Muhammad bin Salih al-Uthaymeen (d.1421 A.H.) -Rahimullaah- Translated by Abbas Abu Yahya

Published by Miraath Publications

Audio and Written Excerpt found here: http://bit.ly/2nMcYS3

Shaykh Muhammad bin Salih al-Uthaymeen said in ‘Sharh al-Aqeedah al-Wasiteeyah’:

‘Having Eemaan in Qadr has benefits, from them are:

1– Qadr is from the perfection of al-Eemaan, and al-Eemaan cannot be complete without it.

2– It is from the perfection of Eemaan in Ruboobeeyah (Allaah’s Lordship), because the Qadr of Allaah is from His Actions.

3– That a person returns all his matters to his Lord; because if he knows that everything is with Allaah’s Qada and His Qadr, then he will return to Allaah in repelling harm for the relief from it, and he will attribute prosperity to Allaah and he will know that this is from the excellence of Allaah upon him.

4– That a person knows his own worth, and he does not become proud when doing good.

5– That afflictions/problems become easier for Allaah’s slave; because if a person knows that it is from Allaah then his afflictions/problems is lessened. As Allaah Ta’ala said:

یھد قلبھ ۥ ومن یؤمن بٱ

– Whoever believes in Allaah then his heart is tranquil – [Taghabun: 11]

6 – Ascribing blessings to the one who renders that blessing, this is because if you did not believe in Qadr you would ascribe blessings to the who takes care of giving those blessings, and this is present a lot amongst those who approach kings, leaders and ministers. If they receive from them what they want they say that the excellence was from them, and they forget the excellence of the Creator Subhanahu.

It is correct that it is obligatory upon a person to be thankful to the people, due to the statement of the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa salam:

ومن أتى إلیكم معروفا ؛ فكافئوه

‘Whoever does a favour for you then compensate that person.’ [Saheehah no. 254 & Irwaa No. 1617], however it should be known that the foundation of all foundations is the excellence of Allaah – Azza wa Jal – which Allah placed at the hand of this man.

7 – So that a person can know the wisdom of Allaah – Azza wa Jal -. This is because when he looks into this universe and what occurs in it from amazing, brilliant changes, then he comes to know about the Wisdom of Allaah Azza wa Jal – and this is in contrast to the one who forgets al-Qada and al-Qadr then he does not get this benefit.

1 – Knowing that Allaah is the One Who forgives

From Ibn Abbas -Radhi Allaahu anhu- said who said that the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said: that Allaah Azza wa Jal said:

من علم أني ذو قدرة على مغفرة الذنوب غفرت لھ و ال أبالي ما لم یشرك بي شیئا

‘Whoever knows that I have the capability to forgive sins, then I will forgive him and not care, as long as he did not associate anything with Me.’ [Collected by Tabrani and Albaani declared it to be Hasan in Saheeh al-Jamia no. 4330]

2 – Hundred times a Day

From al Aghra -Radhi Allaahu anhu- who said I heard the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- saying:

غفره في كل یوم مائة مرةتوبوا إلى هللا واستغفروه فإني أتوب إلى هللا وأست! یا أیھا الناس

‘O you people repent to Allaah and seek His forgiveness, since indeed I repent to Allaah and I seek His forgiveness a hundred times every day.’ [Collected by Ahmad & Albaani declared it to have a saheeh Isnad in Saheehah no. 1452]

3 – Seeking Forgiveness for Parents

Allaah Tabaraka wa Ta’ala said:

ت لدي ولمن دخل بیتي مؤمنا وللمؤمنین وٱلمؤمن ب ٱغفر لي ولو ر

– My Lord! Forgive me, and my parents, and him who enters my home as a believer, and all the believing men and women. – [Nuh: 28]

Allaah Tabaraka wa Ta’ala said:

ب ٱرحمھما كما ربیاني صغیرا ۲٤وقل ر

– and say: ‘My Lord! Bestow on them Your Mercy as they did bring me up when I was small.’ – [al-Isra: 24]

From Abu Hurairah – Radi Allaahu anhu – who said that the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said:

باستغفار ولدك لك: ھذا ؟ فیقال ) لي ( أنى : إن الرجل لترفع درجتھ في الجنة فیقول

‘Indeed Allaah raises the grade of a righteous slave of His in Paradise so much that the slave of Allaah says: ‘O My Lord! From where is all this for me? He will say: ‘By your son seeking forgiveness for you.’ [Collected by Ibn Majah, Ahmad, Ibn Abi Shaybah in ‘al-Mussanaf’, Asbahani in ‘Targheeb’,

Baghawi in ‘Sharh as-Sunnah’, and by ad-Diyaa & Albaani declared its Isnad as hasan in Saheehah no.1598]

Abul Hasan as-Sindi -Rahimullaah- (d. 1138 A.H.) said in his explanation of ‘Sunnan Ibn Majah’:

‘Therefore it is necessary for the son to seek forgiveness for his parents.’ [From ‘Sunnan Ibn Majah’ No. 3660]

Shaykh Salih al-Fawzan was asked:

‘My mother seeks forgiveness and makes Tasbeeh a hundred times a day for her parents daily, what is the ruling of seeking forgiveness for parents after they have passed away?

The Shaykh answered:

‘This is a good thing, seeking forgiveness for parents and the Muslims, a person seeks forgiveness for himself, his parents and the Muslims, this is a matter which is legislated.

– My Lord! Forgive me, and my parents, and him who enters my home as a believer- like Nuh – alayhi as-Salaam- said.

– Seek forgiveness for your sins and the believing men and women. – Like Allaah said to our Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam.

Seeking forgiveness for a person, his parents, his relatives, and his Muslim brothers, the living and the dead, is a matter which is needed, and a person should do this a lot.’ [Taken from: http://www.alfawzan.af.org.sa/node/13605]

4 – Seeking Forgiveness for the Believers

From Ubadah bin as-Samitt -Radhi Allaahu anhu- who said: I heard the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- saying:

من استغفر للمؤمنین و للمؤمنات كتب هللا لھ بكل مؤمن و مؤمنة حسنة

‘Whoever sought forgiveness for believing men and believing women, Allaah writes a good deed for him for every believing man and woman.’ [Collected by Tabrani and Albaani declared it to be Hasan in Saheeh al-Jamia no. 6026]

Day 29: The Real Meaning of Zuhd (Not having a love for the Dunyaa) By Muhammad bin Salih al-Uthaymeen (d.1421 A.H.) -Rahimullaah- Compiled & Translated by Abbas Abu Yahya

Published by Miraath Publications

a) AbdurRahmaan bin Ali bin Muhammad Ibn Jawzi (d. 598 A.H.) said:

‘Zuhd is not just leaving wealth or giving wealth to show that you are generous and strong, nor to get people’s hearts to incline to you, on the contrary Zuhd is leaving worldly things due to having the knowledge that it is insignificant in relation to the immeasurable value of the Hereafter.’

[Taken from: ‘Mukhtasir Minhaj al-Qasideen’ p.324]

b) Shamsuddeen Muhammad bin Abee Bakr Ibn Qayyim aj-Jawzeeyah (d.751 A.H.) -Rahimullaah- said:

‘The intent of Zuhd is not rejection of having possessions, since in fact Sulayman and Dawood –alayhim as-Salaam- were the ones who had the most Zuhd from amongst the people at their time and they had been endowed with wealth, land and women.

Our Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- had definitely the most Zuhd above all mankind, and he had nine women. ‘Ali bin Abi Taalib, AbdurRahman bin ‘Awf, Zubayr and Uthmaan -Radi Allaahu anhum- were from those who had Zuhd even though they had wealth, and there were many others like them.’

[Taken from ‘Madarij as-Salikeen’ by Ibn al-Qayyim (d. 751 A.H.) Volume 2/13-14)]

c) Al-Hasan said:

‘Having Zuhd of the Dunyaa is not prohibiting oneself from that which is Halaal, nor by wasting money, but it is knowing that what is in Allaah’s Hand is more trustworthy than one’s own-self and what he has in his hand (i.e. possesses).’

[Taken from ‘Madarij as-Salikeen’ by Ibn al-Qayyim (d. 751 A.H.) 285]

d) Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali (d.795) -Rahimullaah- said:

‘Abu Sulayman said: ‘Do not testify for anyone that he has Zuhd, since indeed Zuhd is in the heart.’

Day 30: No One Lives for Eternity By Shaykh AbdulMuhsin bin Hamd al-Abaad al-Badr Compiled & Translated By Abbas Abu Yahya

Published by Miraath Publications

Audio and Written Excerpt found here: http://bit.ly/2ohfEej

Allaah Ta’ala said:

ل ت فھم ٱلخ ن قبلك ٱلخلد أفإین م ۳٤دون وما جعلنا لبشر م

– And We granted not to any human being immortality before you (O Muhammad), then if you die, would they live forever? – [Anbiyya: 34]

Shaykh AbdulMuhsin said:

‘The Noble Ayaah indicates that the passage of a human is to pass away, and that Allaah did not make it such that anyone could live for eternity before the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam, so eternity is not for the Prophet or for anyone else to remain. But rather everyone is moving towards passing away as Allaah Ta’ala said:

كرام ۲٦ن علیھا فان كل م ل وٱإل ۲۷ویبقى وجھ ربك ذو ٱلجل

– Whatsoever is on it (the earth) will perish. And the Face of your Lord full of Majesty and Honour will abide forever. –[Rahman: 26-27]

Some of the people of knowledge said: ‘The Mushrikoon used to reject his -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam – Prophet hood, and they would say: ‘Muhammad is a poet we await for him some calamity after some time, and perhaps he will die just like such and such poet died from such and such tribe. So Allaah Ta’ala mentioned that indeed Prophets before you died, and Allaah has power over His religion with victory and protection, this is how the Deen and Sharia of the Prophet is protected.’

With this Ayaah, it indicates that al-Khidr has indeed died, whether he was a Wali (friend of Allaah Azza wa Jal), or a Prophet, or Messenger, because he was a human being, and he was present at the time of Moosa –alayhim as-Salaam. And Allaah Azza wa Jal had indeed said:

ن قبلك ٱلخل د وما جعلنا لبشر م

– And We granted not to any human being immortality before you (O Muhammad) –

[From ‘Min Kanooz Qur’aan’ by Shaykh AbdulMuhsin p.118]
