TOPIC: PLANTS AROUND US
DAY-1
We see many things around us. Plants are also living things they grow, the shape and size of living things
change with time. We see many types of plants some grow in water some grow on land.
TYPES OF PLANTS:-
Tree- Big, tall and strong plants are called tree. They have thick and brown woody stems called
trunk. Most tree have branches. They live for many years. Banyan, mango and apple are examples of
tree.
Shrubs:- These are small and bushy plants with hard branched stems. They live for a few years.
Rose and Tulsi are some examples of shrubs.
Herbs:- These are plants with soft and thin green stems. Mint and coriander are examples of
herbs.

Climbers:-These are plants with weak stems. They take support of other plants or structure to
climb on. Pea, bean and money plant are examples of climbers.

DAY-2
Creepers: These are plants with weak stems. They creep on the ground. Watermelon and pumpkin
are examples of creepers.
PLANTS GROW EVERYWHERE:-
Plants grow everywhere in deserts, mountains and even under the water.
Plants like lotus, waterlily and water hyacinth grow only in water and they are called aquatic or water plants.
Plants like cactus and date palm grow well in deserts.

Plants like alpine and willow trees grow in places covered with snow.

Many plants were brought to India from different parts of the world. Now they are grown here these are
called exotic plants. Kiwi, strawberry, broccoli are some examples of exotic plants.

DAY-4
USES OF PLANTS:-
Plants give us food we get cereals like rice, wheat and pulses like bean,
rajma etc.
We get vegetables and fruits like carrot, apple etc.
Cooking oil is obtained from seeds of plants like mustard, groundnut and
coconut.
The wood of plants is used to make furniture.
Medicines are obtained from some plants.
Spices that add flavour to food are also get from plants.
Fibre is obtained from cotton plants, jute plants and coconut husk.
Flower of plants like jasmine and rose are used to make perfumes.

Plants provide shelter to many birds and animals.

Aquatic plants - Plants which grow in water are aquatic plants. Some
aquatic plants are lotus, waterlily etc.
Herbs - Small plants with soft green stems are called herbs. Eg- spinach,
mint etc.
Shrubs - Small bushy plants with thin and hard woody stems are called
shrubs. Eg:- rose, basil( Tulsi).

What are exotic plants ?
Ans: Plants which are brought from other countries and are growing well in
our country are known as exotic plants. Some exotic plants are - vanilla
from Mexico
litchi from China
minnow from California
What is photosynthesis ?
Ans: Photosynthesis is the process by which green plants prepare
their own food with help of air, water and sunlight.
How are climbers different from creepers ?
Ans: Climbers are plants with soft stems. They need support to grow and
stand. Some examples are grapevine, bean etc. Where as, creepers are
plants with very weak and soft stems that grow along the ground. Some
examples are watermelon, pumpkin etc.
List some uses of plants.
Ans: Some uses of plants are
Used as fibre like cotton and jute.
Used as medicine like Neem and Tulsi.
Used as beverages like tea and coffee.
Used for making perfumes, oil, soap, paper etc.
