Although summer is here, HCCUCC does not close. Summer doesn’t mean we don’t have church bills to pay. It also doesn’t mean people aren’t still in need of our thoughts and prayers.

Summer is here so let’s not forget God. God never takes a vacation, and neither should we take one from God’s presence.

From Our Minister…

Dear Folks,

I am one week into by sabbatical and have completed the first event,

the seminar with retired bishop John Spong on the Gospel of Matthew.

The seminar was held at Kirkridge, a retreat center created in the spirit

of the Celtic tradition, of which I am very interested in and and very

fond of. It was a lovely weekend with lots of great food for thought.

As I left Kirkridge, I came off the mountain on which it was built and

heard the tragic news about the mass shooting in Orlando. My reaction

was horror and grief. When will this violence end?

I know that there are many different opinions about gun control, both in

our country and in our congregation. But, on this is matter I will just

say that NO ONE needs an automatic weapon. NO ONE.

That being said, the root of this horrible crime was intolerance and

hatred. Now more than ever, our faith calls us to be witnesses of

tolerance and love.

John Spong said a lot of things during the seminar on Matthew, but, the

one thing that stands out in my mind now in light of the most recent

tragedy is this: "The mission of the church is to build a world that all

can live and be all they can be."

This reminded me of the banner we having hanging in front of

HCCUCC:

Let us live this out. It is a matter of life and death.

In Christ's love,

Rev. Lucille

Fourth Annual Bruce Hartel

Memorial Antique Car Show

On Sunday, August 28th we will again be putting on

our antique car show in memory of HCCUCC past

organist/choir director, Bruce Hartel. This event has not

only raised money for the American Cancer Society, the

HCCUCC Organ Fund and the HCCUCC General

Operating Fund, it has also been a wonderful opportunity

to reach out to the community.

Now, ”what can I do?” you ask…Please consider

helping out. You can…

Post a car show flyer at businesses you frequent. Car

Show flyers are available in the alcove or from

Robin Hartel at [email protected]

If you’re attending a car meet or cruise night this

summer, take a pile of flyers and distribute to car

owners. Mini flyers are available from Karen in the

office.

Visit any of your favorite merchants and ask them to

make a donation in the form of a gift card or gift

certificate. These will be used as People’s Choice

Awards. Donation Forms and Car Show flyers are

available in the alcove or from Robin Hartel at

[email protected]

Donate a case or two of soda and/or bottled water.

Drinks will be sold at the car show, with proceeds

going toward the HCC General Operating Fund.

Cases can be left in the southeast corner of

Fellowship Hall over the summer.

Make a monetary donation or food donation (hot

dogs, hamburgers, rolls, cheese, garden tomatoes,

lettuce, kraut, chips, condiments) for the food tent.

Proceeds will go toward the HCC General Operating

Fund.

Sign up to help on the day of the show. Help is

needed with set-up and breakdown as well as

working at tables and other strategic positions.

Sign-up sheet will go up mid-July in the alcove.

Tell your friends and family about the car show!

FINALLY, COME TO THE SHOW! Admission is

free. Vote for your favorite antique car. Have

something to eat and drink and a Rita’s ice!

ROBERT WILSON SUNDAY

Each year, Gertrude Wilson

generously donates ice cream

after service on Children’s

Sunday. This tradition began in

loving memory of Gertrude’s

husband, Robert, who loved ice

cream and children. Prior to

Robert’s passing, Gertrude and

Robert welcomed our entire

congregation in June 1973 and

1974 to worship together on

their farm and then have a picnic afterwards. Members even had the

opportunity to learn how to milk the cows! This is also to

commemorate National Dairy Month. Thank you to Gertrude for

being so generous.

Tag Sale

A big thank you to everyone who helped out at the Tag Sale on June

4th! Whether you had a spot and were selling items, helped at the

church table, bake table, made baked goods, carried tables in and

out, or came to browse—it all went well (and the rain pretty much

held off), and we could not have done it without all of you. Avery

special THANK YOU to Merle Chase for setting up and breaking

down the tables. You’re the best!

As an outreach and to get the news of HCCUCC out to the

community, the Men’s Fellowship will be selling hotdogs at the

Wednesday evening concerts on the Green during the summer.

Also, the Vitality Committee will be handing out free water and

hold a free gift card give away. If you would like to help out, you

are more than welcome to come on out. Please consider making

donations of a $25 gift card to a local store or eating place, or a

case of water. Everyone’s help is needed!

Going away this Summer? Going to miss worship

some Sundays?

Please make use of our secure giving website to

stay current on your pledge over the summer

months by giving on-line. You can give to

HCCUCC via credit card or direct withdrawal

from your checking account using our website,

huntingtonucc.org. Just go to our website and click on the

“Online Giving” button at the top right of the site. This will take

you to our secure credit card giving page which is hosted by

Vanco, our EFT and credit card provider. You will be able to

give to Operating, Missions, Memorial Donations, Special

Missions of the season and General/Miscellaneous giving such as

flowers, bulletins or directed donations to budget line items. You

can also schedule recurring giving on the site.

The church still has bills and salaries to pay over the summer

months and your faithful/timely giving is certainly appreciated.

Thank-you, Your Financial Secretaries.
