A device used commonly as a barrier in sexual intercourse that reduces the possibility of impregnation and STD’s. When placed on a man’s erect penis, it physically blocks ejaculated semen and stops it from entering the sexual partner. If you use a condom consistently and correctly, it is the most effective form of birth control on the market. If you use a condom, your rate of receiving HIV/AIDS is 85% lower then if you weren’t using a condom. The best way to protect yourself from an STI is to use a condom.

The cervical cap is a silicone cup that is inserted into the vagina to prevent pregnancy. The cervical cap is more effective for women who have not had birth. Only 14 out of 100 women who use cervical cap’s correctly get pregnant each year. The cervical cap only provides protection for birth control, not STD’s or STI’s.

Genital Warts

Genital Warts

• Genital warts are an STI caused by HPV. Genital warts are spread through skin to skin contact during any type of sex. If you are infected with HPV and do not have warts, you can still spread the disease. The best way to protect yourself against genital warts is to use a condom. Because you get genital warts from direct skin to skin contact, condoms don’t protect you completely, but it is the only protection so far against HPV and genital warts.
