What are Birch Bark Scrolls

The birch bark scrolls are unofficial one-

page tidbits detailing a single creature,concept, item, or NPC for the Totems of the

Dead setting for the Savage Worlds tabletoproleplaying game. They are free content forthe fans of the setting, and are notcommercial products affiliated with anypublisher or company.

Birch Bark Scrolls In-Game

Birch bark scrolls exist in the UntamedLands among tribes, primarily those in the

northeast woodlands, that have their ownsystems of writing. Some contain importantlore about the Untamed Lands and itsdenizens. As such they can be used astreasures for the heroes to discover, or as ameans of unveiling key bits of informationfor a savage tale.

Rarely a birch bark scroll may record apowerful shamans arcane knowledge detailing

some new power or ritual hitherto unknownto the heroes. In such cases, these scrolls maygive a hero the ability to gain a hitherto

inaccessible power through the New PowerEdge, or may count as an arcane componentor substitute talisman for characters witharcane backgrounds that require such items.

Example Birch Bark Scrolls

Scrolls of the Alchemist: These scrolls eachrecord efficient alchemical recipes for aspecific power on the Alchemy power list. Useof this scroll reduces the required alchemicalcomponents by 1 for each use of the power.

The Elders Scrolls: These scrolls can be usedby a shaman in lieu of their talisman to castspells, and allow them access to learning asingle new power not normally accessible toshamans of their tribe.

Scrolls of Blood: One of these scrolls gives aBlood Magi a +1 bonus to their arcane skillchecks when they are bloodletting or using ablood sacrifice.
