• It influences evolution

• Predators become more capable of capturing prey.

• Prey become more

Symbiotic Relationships between Plants

There are 3 types of Symbiosis:ParasitismCommensalismMutualism

All these 3 types of symbiosis involve 2 types of plants living together in an extended period of time.

Colorado Blue Spruce, commonly interacts with plants like P. pungens

MutualismWhat is

Mutualism?

Mutualism is any relationship between two species of organisms that benefits both species. This is the relationship most people think of when they use the word “symbiosis."

Hummingbird Hawkmoth drinking from Ixora

Examples:Hummingbirds and

flowersThe hummingbird drinks the nectar from the flowers, the hummingbird will then help to pollinate the flower.

An organism that lives in or on another organism (its host) and benefits by deriving nutrients at the host's expense. (Resulting in the loss of the host’s life, loss of nutrients, or in the below salmonella case, serious pains)

Salmonella

Normally causes diarrhea, abdominal

cramps, and fever within 8 to 72 hours after

the contaminated food was

eaten.Some cases leads to meningitis.

Commensalism• Commensalism is where

one organism benefits while the other remains unaffected.

• An example would be the Hazel Grouse.

• It gets food and shelter from the Colorado Blue Spruce but the Spruce gets nothing in return.
