LETS DEFINE !
A biometric is a physiological or behavioral
characteristic of a human being that can distinguishone person from another and that theoretically can be
used foridentificationorverificationof identity.

WHY BIOMETRICS?
Mobile devices are more accessible, which means thatthey are more vulnerable too!
Identity thefts Passwords or keys may be forgotten Something you know can be stolen Predicted or hacked Reliability on manual verification

WORKING PRINCIPLE
Biometric devices consist of a reader or scanning device softwarethat converts the gathered information into digital form, and adatabase that stores the biometric data with comparison withexisting records.
Scanning Devices work in two modes:
Enrollment Mode.
Verification Mode.

2) RETINAL SCANNING
Scans retina into database User looks straight into retinal reader
Scan using low intensity light
No touch required
Very efficient cant be spoofed!
Disadvantages
User has to look directly Contact lens is an issue
Acceptability concerns
Light exposure
Hygiene

3) VOICE RECOGNITION
Voice recognition is not the same as speechrecognition, it is speaker recognition. Considered both physiological andbehavioral. Popular and low-cost
Disadvantages
Local acoustics
Background noise
Device quality
Illness , emotional behavior
Time consuming enrollment
Large processing template

ADVANTAGES OF BIOMETRICS
Biometric authentication can provide extremelyaccurate, secured access to information.
fingerprints, retinal and iris scans produce absolutelyunique data sets when done properly.
Current methods like password verification havemany problems (people write them down, they forgetthem, they make up easy-to-hack passwords) .
Automated biometric identification can be done veryrapidly and uniformly, with a minimum of training .
Your identity can be verified without resort todocuments that may be stolen, lost or altered.

DISADVANTAGES OF BIOMETRICS..
The finger print of those people working in Chemicalindustries are often affected. Therefore these companiesshould not use the finger print mode of authentication.
It is found that with age, the voice of a person differs. Alsowhen the person has flu or throat infection the voicechanges or if there are too much noise in the environmentthis method may not authenticate correctly. Therefore thismethod of verification is not workable all the time.
For people affected with diabetes, the eyes get affected
resulting in differences.
Biometrics is an expensive security solution.

CONCLUSION The biometric system is very user friendly
system.
Biometric system can provide very secureand efficient access to existing system.
But since there are some disadvantages, sofurther research is required in this field.
