1. M.Phil (1991-2. Topic is: Urban Growth of Cochin in the Sixteenth and Seventeenth Centuries submitted to Pondicherry Central University, 1992)

2.Ph.D.(1992-1998. Topic is: Portuguese Cochin and the Maritime Trade of India, 1500-1663 submitted to Pondicherry Central University in January 1998. It was later published as a volume in the South Asian Study Series of Heidelberg University, Germany in 2001)

3.Post-doctoral Research at Heidelberg University, Germany (from Febr.1998 till Oct.1998. The topic is: German Participation in Indo-Portuguese Trade.1500-1650 . It was later published by LIT Verlag Münster(Germany) under the title The Germans, the Portuguese and India in 1999.

16. Research Projects Completed

1) Ship-building and Navigation in Kerala during the time of the Portuguese. This Project was sponsored by Goa University and its final report was submitted in 2003

2) Maritime Communities of Konkan: A Study of the Society and Economy, 800 AD to 1750 AD. This Research Project was funded by ICHR(Rs.75,000/-) and its final report was submitted in 2006

3) The Portuguese on the West Coast of India: A Study of the Economy, Society and Culture, 1500-1700 . This project was funded by Fundação Oriente, Lisbon, Portugal. The final report was submitted in 2006

Ongoing Research Projects:

I am a part of two international research projects.

1) Goa Inquisition - Its norms and procedures of Justice: A Reader of Primary Sources(under the larger research frame of History, Memory and Society). This project funded by National Foundation for Science and Technology of Portugal is carried out by a group of researchers from across the world with Prof. Teotonio R. de Souza (Universidade de Lusofona, Lisbon) as Research Coordinator, and Prof. Dauril Alden of Washington, and Prof. Anthony Disney of Melbourne, Dr. Paulo Aranha, European University Institute of Florence, Prof. Fernanda Camargo Moro (Director, MUSEION, Rio de Janeiro, Brasil), Dr.Ana Cunha, Lisbon and Pius Malekandathil(JNU) as members of the research team

2) Cosmopolis: The Roots and Routes of Asian Port-cities. This is a pilot-project carried out under the co-ordination of Prof. Jos Gommans(Leiden University, the Netherlands) to explore the collective memory of Kochi through archives and heritage. The other members of the Research team are Professor Charles Jeurgens (Leiden University), Dr. Lennart Bes (National Archives The Hague), Dr. Bauke van der Pol (Anthropologist, Leiden), Dr.Pius Malekandathil (Jawaharlal Nehru University) and Dr Anjana Singh (Mumbay University).
