The object of PCR is to make many copies of a specific region of a DNA molecule. All that is needed are short (20-25 bp) primers that uniquely flank the region to be amplified and the enzymes necessary to replicate DNA in a test tube.

Paternity Case
Let's use RFLP technology to determine if Jack is the father of Jill's child named Payle. In this scenario, DNA was extracted from white blood cells from all three individuals and subjected to RFLP analysis. The results are shown below:

A genetically modified organism (GMO) is an organism whose genetic material has been altered using the genetic engineering techniques generally known as recombinant DNA technology. With recombinant DNA technology DNA molecules from different sources are combined in vitro to one molecule to create a new gene. This modified DNA is then transferred into an organism causing the expression of modified or novel traits. The product is also known as an Genetically Engineered Organism or GEO
GMO Plants are already in the marketplace
•Plants containg the BT-toxin from Bacillus thurngensis that give them natural resistance to insect pests.
•Corn plants containing a gene for resistant to glysophate, a herbicide that makes it easier for fsrmers to kill weeds, but not kill their crop.
•Plants containing a gene from Pseudomonas syringae that makes them frost resistant.
