ACCA Case Study Australian Centre for Conteporary Art The building has a contemporary and unique fascia. The rusted structure provides a memorable icon for the centre. It seems most of the architecture is there to build a creative statement. Nearby the ACCA building the yellow structure “Vault” by Ron Robertson-Swann is a highly notable melbourne landmark that acts as a totem for the centre. This I assume is to help with peoples recognition of the area. The san-serif open and square style font on the fascia of the ACCA represent the contemporary nature of the building and what it houses. Also, the contrast between the rough rusted wall and the chrome lettering helps create a clear distinguiment of the signage. The main entrance way is easily located by the tallest section of the building. The triangular shaped spike gives a notable landmark for the entranceway to the building. The ACCA layout constantly changes due to rotating exhibitions. The space is intentionally set up to be changable so that it is more versatile. Assessment: As has been used at ACCA, the type face style should reflect the mood and style of the surrounding environment. The style we plan on following is modern heritage which should be reflected in the typeface, material and form. James Herd
