Santorini, greece Ever since watching The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants when I was younger, I’ve had a fascination with the beauty and majesticness of the Greek islands of Mykonos and Santorini. The architechture of the all-white buildings stacked on top of each other with blue shutters sitting on top of a blue ocean whose waters are scattered with sailboats and fishing boats is beyond beautiful to me.

On these islands, life moves at a slower pace. Laundry is hung out to dry and blow in the wind and many of the locals get around by way of donkey. Yes, that’s what I said- donkeys! Fresh seafood and produce are brought in daily from the fishing boats and local markets!

tokyo, japan Technology!

If there is a more technologically advanced place then the hustle-bus-tle city of Tokyo, let me know! Always at the forefront of the digital world, Tokyo has always allured me, as I’ve heard that visiting the city is probably the closest one will ever get to time travel into the future.

Tokyo seems to have not only mastered the digital and technology aspect, but the fashion aspect as well. Tokyo street fashion is some of the most interesting and innovative in the world. Just take a look at “Harajuku girls” whose fashion is known to be youthful fun and unique to Harajuku!

Cairo, egypt One of my favorite movie series is The Mummy series. There is some-thing about Egypt and Pharoahs and tombs that is incredible mysterious and has somewhat of an element of danger and thrill.

I hope that one day I will be able to visit Cairo and look at the tombs that predate me by thousands of years and wonder what kinds of lives the Egyptians led back in the day. Although I’ve heard that Egypt can be danger-ous to travel to because of the politics involved with it all, I’ve also heard the resort areas tend to be not only harmless but beautiful!

I also plan to ride a camel as well, if I’m not too scared!

analysis My project is a combination of a few of my passions. I have always had a big appetite for travel as well as for vintage and “old-style” things. I tend to think sometimes that life was so much simpler back in the day and some of the art and styles and fashion were so beautiful.

My project is in essence, “my suit case of dreams”: a suitcase with the top three places I would like to see be-fore I die. I decided to design a unique suitcase on InDesign to mimic the style of suitcases that people would use in old days with travel stickers all over them by looking for travel stickers online and cropping and cutting them to stack on top of each other on my suitcase. I think I resisted premature closure when I became really fascinated with all the travel stickers available online and even decided to make it a personal long-term project of mine to invest in a vintage suitcase and add travel stickers to it everytime I travel somewhere new!

Inside the suitcase are descriptions of perceptions I have of the top three places I would like to travel. I will undoubtedly travel more, as travel is a passion of mine but these are the three places I constantly dream about! With the descriptions, I used headings across the three pages to have repetition and unity with the suitcase color and font. In addition, I searched for travel stickers for each country and placed it alongside the heading, to also have unity with the suitcase design.

In the same way, I have used the same light blue text boxes for everything involving text, and the same two fonts- which provide contrast with each other, in all text formats as well. Completing this project was extremely enjoyable and this class has definitely broadened my horizons as to what I am able to create when remembering all the elements and skills acquired through this class.
