Your recycling collections explained Tumble dryers, washing machines and fridges/freezers are subject to a £12 collection charge (unless on approved benefit) and limited to three per year. When you arrange a collection you will be asked to make sure the items are presented properly – please make sure: Small articles are bagged-up, otherwise they may get left behind. Any gates are left unlocked and our collection crew has reasonable access to your rubbish. Sofas, beds and carpets are covered. Branches and wood are tied and there are no sharp items (i.e. nails) remaining. Glass items are taped (including TV screens). The items you would like collected are clearly separated from any other items on your property. Grey lid bin is emptied every two weeks Here are some of the most common misconceptions about recycling. Cans Do I need to wash out cans? Yes please! Rinse them out in used washing up water after you’ve done the dishes, they don’t need to be sparkling clean – but make sure you wash out all food residues. Should I take the label off the cans? Items such as glossy magazines and leaflets can go in however high gloss items such as photograph paper cannot. Your recycling collections explained

Tumble dryers, washing machines and fridges/freezers are subject to a £12 collection charge (unless on approved benefit) and limited to three per year.

When you arrange a collection you will be asked to make sure the items are presented properly – please make sure:

– Small articles are bagged-up, otherwise they may get left behind.

– Any gates are left unlocked and our collection crew has reasonable access to your rubbish.

– Sofas, beds and carpets are covered.

– Branches and wood are tied and there are no sharp items (i.e. nails) remaining.

– Glass items are taped (including TV screens).

– The items you would like collected are clearly separated from any other items on your property.

Here are some of the most common misconceptions about recycling. Cans

Do I need to wash out cans? Yes please! Rinse them out in used washing up water after you’ve done the dishes, they don’t need to be sparkling clean – but make sure you wash out all food residues.

Should I take the label off the cans? No

Plastics

What type of plastic can I recycle? Plastic bottles, plastic tubs and pots. These are generally marked with a number 1,2,3,4 or 5. You cannot put plastic bags, cling film or any expanded polystyrene in the recycling bin. Please put this in your green bin for non-recyclables.

Do you need to take tops off the plastic bottles? Plastic bottle tops either need to be removed or the bottles need to be squashed and the top put back on. This is to prevent the air in the bottle forcing the lid off at high speed once they are put into large bales. If you do take the bottle top off, it can be still be put in the recycling bin separately.

Paper

Do I need to take the plastic window out of envelopes? No

Can I put grease soaked pizza boxes in the recycling? No

Can glossy paper go in the recycling bin? Items such as glossy magazines and leaflets can go in however high gloss items such as photograph paper cannot.

There are some houses with small dark green bins or black boxes, why haven’t I got one? Some areas of Nottingham receive a food waste collection and a collection for glass. If you are unsure what collections you should receive please contact the Recycling Team to find out.

People who throw litter, daub graffiti or dump rubbishrun the risk of being fined or prosecuted. The City Councilwill investigate and seek to prosecute anyone caughtcommitting a grime crime.
