What is new in CGS Labs Civil Solutions 2021?

The new CGS Labs Civil Solutions 2021 bring:

Support for Autodesk AutoCAD 2021 platform,

Release of Autosign Ultimate,

New and updated features in Plateia, Ferrovia, Aquaterra, Autopath, Autosign, and Electra.

CGS Labs Civil Solutions 2021 can be installed in parallel with CGS Labs products 2020, 2020.1 or

older.

The novelties in CGS Labs Civil Solutions 2021 are of three categories:

General novelties: novelties that are common to all CGS Labs software (Plateia, Autopath,

Autosign, Ferrovia, Aquaterra and Electra),

New features: for specific products or group of products,

Feature enhancements: existing features that have been improved or upgraded.

General novelties in CGS Labs Civil Solutions 2021

1. CAD platforms support

CGS Labs Civil Solutions 2021 run on top of:

AutoCAD / AutoCAD Map /Civil 3D versions: 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016

BricsCAD Pro / Platinum versions: V20, V19, V18

IMPORTANT: We are no longer supporting older Autodesk AutoCAD versions 2013, 2014 and 2015

and BricsCAD V17.

2. Single CGS Labs ribbon

All CGS Labs Civil Solutions, including Plateia, Ferrovia, Aquaterra, Electra, Autosign and Autopath are now accessible from the new CGS Labs ribbon. Autosign and Autopath have been recently added to the CGS Labs ribbon, which now makes CGS Labs software user interface more transparent. From CGS Labs ribbon you can also:

Handle license activations,

Check your CGS Labs software version,

Change Language and country specific software version,

Handle software updates,

Activate Help content. New CGS Labs ribbon solves some issues related to AutoCAD profiles in previous CGS Labs software releases.

3. Updated licensing system

CGS Labs Civil Solutions 2021 use new Reprise License Manager, version 14. In previous versions,

Reprise License Manager was sometimes causing time delays in activation of CGS Labs software

commands due to checking the software license. This has been now improved.

Clients with active CGS Labs software Maintenance can install CGS Labs Civil Solutions 2021 using

“Update download” command in the About box. CGS Labs Civil Solutions 2021 can be installed in

parallel with CGS Labs products 2020, 2020.1 or older. For existing clients, no new license serial

numbers are needed.

New support dialog has been added to CGS Labs License Manager for easier first time activation for

new users:

4. Simplified installation process

CGS Labs Civil Solutions 2021 install process contains new, simplified Profile Creator. It helps user to:

select CAD platform (AutoCAD / BricsCAD) on which CGS Labs software will be installed;

select CAD profile on which CGS Labs ribbons and menus will be installed;

select CGS Labs software language / version, for example German, Austrian, English, Slovene

etc. The language / version setting was previously available only in the About dialog box.

1. Autosign Professional and Autosign Ultimate

CGS Labs Civil Solutions 2021 bring new Autosign Ultimate version with included 3D and BIM

functionality.

Autosign Professional is included in Plateia Professional while Autosign Ultimate is included in Plateia

Ultimate.

1.1. Improvements in Autosign Professional The main new feature in Autosign Professional is areas coloring.

Other minor improvements include:

Redefined dialog for easier editing of the existing signs and adding more signs to the existing post,

Fixed size of added signs to post,

Fixed transparency issue between traffic signs and other objects behind traffic signs,

Fixed support for Civil 3D alignments,

Added old commands for creating texts and arrows on information boards.

1.2. Coloring (Available in Autosign Professional, Autosign Ultimate, Plateia Professional, Plateia Ultimate)

Autosign 2021 includes a new coloring function for painting road areas such as bicycle paths,

pedestrian areas, crosswalk areas and many others. Convenient and easy to use function for final

visualization effects.

1.3. BIM support for 3D road signs and 3D road furniture (Available in Autosign Ultimate and Plateia Ultimate)

Autosign Ultimate has the ability to create traffic signs, portals, road markings and other side road

objects as 3D solid objects. Property Set data can be assigned to 3D solid objects and IFC files

(version 2.3 or 4.2) can be generated from 3D solid objects.

All existing traffic signs have been redrawn in order to be properly displayed in 3D.

In order to get the best 3D visualization results, Autosign Ultimate should be run on the latest

AutoCAD or BricsCAD platforms. Otherwise the conversion from 2D signs to 3D signs may result in

non-ideal 3D solid objects. BricsCAD v19 and V18 versions do not support such 3D objects creation at

all. Also note that backward compatibility with older Autosign versions (drawings containing traffic

signs inserted by older Autosign versions) is not supported since Autosign 2021 uses new traffic signs

blocks which were redefined to support the correct 3D solid traffic sign creation.

Traffic signs libraries have been updated and enhanced with additional traffic signs.

Autosign Ultimate supports AutoCAD Civil 3D alignments and surfaces. Created 3D traffic signs, 3D

road markings and other 3D objects can be viewed and manipulated in Autodesk Navisworks and

InfraWorks. All Autosign created data is stored within the DWG, but can be also exported to IFC 2.3 /

4.2 or FBX InfraWorks format.

2. IFC 4.2 Import & Export

(Available in Plateia Ultimate, Ferrovia Ultimate, Aquaterra Ultimate, Autosign Ultimate)

CGS Labs Civil Solutions 2021 bring support for IFC 4.2 BIM file format. IFC 4.2 supports advanced

geometries, like pipes, brep models and other CAD object (lines, arcs, polylines, 3D polyline, faces,

blocs and others). This practically means that exported BIM models in CGS Labs software are now

much more precise. Previous CGS Labs software versions supported IFC 2X3.

There are export and import commands available. IFC export command exports Plateia / Ferrovia /

Aquaterra / Autosign Ultimate geometry & attributes into IFC file 4.2. Optionally, IFC 2X3 file can be

selected as output format in case that IFC 2X3 file format is required on specific project.

Import data capability from IFC 4.2 or 2X3 files enables designers to insert 3D BIM objects (made in

other BIM authoring tools, like Revit or ArchiCAD) into the Plateia / Ferrovia / Aquaterra / Autosign

drawing. Such objects can represent for example bridges, buildings, culverts, walls etc..

3. BricsCAD Surface support

(Available in Plateia, Ferrovia, Aquaterra, Electra)

BricsCAD surfaces (digital terrain model), available in BricsCAD V20 Pro & Platinum are supported for

the projection of the alignments in Plateia, Ferrovia and Aquaterra. Previously, only CGS Labs

surfaces and Civil 3D surfaces were supported.

4. Multiple Profile lines

(Available in Plateia and Ferrovia)

Plateia 2021 and Ferrovia 2021 have the option to create multiple longitudinal profile lines with

height elevation labeling options for each profile line separately in single profile view. The new

command actually converts profile lines to passive profile lines (polylines). With this, it is possible to:

analyse elevation differences between two selected profile lines,

and to compare multiple conceptual design options.

Feature enhancements in CGS Labs Civil Solutions 2021

1. Drape - Surface selector

(Available in Plateia, Ferrovia, Aquaterra, Electra)

For the alignments projection to surface (digital terrain model), the newly enhanced surface selector

highlights the selected surface in the drawing. This helps to select the right one. Surface selector

works on various types of surfaces:

3D FACE

CGS Surface

Civil 3D Surface

BricsCAD surface

We would like to emphasize that projection (drape) function allows simultaneous longitudinal or

cross-section profile calculations for multiple surfaces. This is not new in 2021, but often overseen

feature.

2. Labeling vertical data in Layout

(Available in Plateia and Ferrovia)

There are three new commands available for labels generation in layout:

Labeling longitudinal profile data in layout (includes vertical curve station, radius, tangent

lengths and falls)

Labeling superelevation data in layout with triangles and values,

Labeling road / rail surface elevation in the selected layout point.

3. Multiple road lanes pavement

(Available in Plateia)

Up to current version, only two road lanes were supported for the creation of pavement cross

section area & material. With the latest version, there is no limit in number of road lanes selected

when creating pavement areas.

4. Project 3D Solid objects to Cross-sections views

(Available in Plateia, Ferrovia, Aquaterra)

Updated function for the projection of 3D solid objects from Layout to Cross Sections Views now

creates a new layer 40_3DOBJECTSECTION on which 3D solid projection lines are drawn in Cross

Sections Views. This enables us to differentiate between 3D solid object geometry and other Cross

Section geometry objects (like embankment, pavement, ditch, block ...).

The reason for this update is Macro file recording, which in previous versions didn´t save 3D solid

objects projection lines as objects to be drawn next time when running the Macro.

Projected objects always need to be available in Layout drawing and projected in Cross Section Views

in order to make Macros work at their best.

5. Autopath update

Autopath gets a slight ribbon face-lift. Some commands are now more easily accessible.

National vehicle libraries for the UK, FTA1998 and FTA2016 have been added.
