Billion Dollar Smile

The month of May is one of the hottest month of the year, especially in Delhi. The warm winds

seems like fire. The life of people living in Delhi is also very fast and busy, but their work also

effect by the weather. Hot temperature, extra rush in the metros and buses, traffic jams makes a

person lot of frustrate.

A young lad may be at an age of 20 to 22 yrs was going to market. There was an headphone in

his both ears, he was also slowly and slowly singing a song. His activity shows that he want to

dance. He entered in the store of Reliance fresh. He has made his shopping and stand in the

queue for making payment. The queue was little bit long. There was only a lady on the counter.

Finally, the lad’s turn comes.

“How much amount, ma’am?” The lad asked in very polite manner.

“Just wait, I am telling.” The lady replied.

“ok, ma’am”, He said.

“ Yeah, it’s 125, sir.” The lady answered.

“Ok ma’am,” he has given two notes of Rs. 100.

“Sir, have you 5 rupees change ?” the lady asked for change.

“Oh no ma’am, sorry”, The lad replied

“ Oooo, it’s a problem, then you take these toffees.” The lady has given some toffees due to not

having of change at the time.

The lad has taken some of them and offered the rest toffees to the lady.

“Why sir, these all are against your amount due with us.” The lady surprisingly said.

“ Yeah I know, but what I can do with such more toffees, so it is for you from my side.” The lad

replied with smile.

“ No-no, actually I don’t like much toffees”. The lady replied

“Please! Don’t refuse…………………….” The lad said with very melodious smile.

“Ok”, The lady has been finally taken the toffees and given an very natural smile. But this time

the lady’s smile has something hidden beauty. I have no words to explain the beauty of the smile.

This was like a falling of shower from a lovely hill. I have listen about a lot of verities of smiles



in books and communication classes, like plastic smile, natural smile, corporate smile, formal

smile etc. but what kind of this smile this is ? I don’t know. Yeah, I have a unique definition for

the smile, and that is “A Billion Dollar Smile”.

The lad also impressed by the smile. He was as impressed as he stands for a minute constant and

look upon the lady. After some time, there was a lot of shout from the back. Actually , lot of people were standing in the queue for their turn. So, they had been aggressive due to late and if it

continued than no doubt, they will bite the lad. The lad had gone away.

The lad had been gone but the smile of the lady has given an addictive touch in the mind of the

lad. He was not normal at the home, but also he was continuously thinking about her and her

smile. As the result, at evening, he once again came to the store. And this time he has been

purchased a lot of necessary and unnecessary items just for the sake of passing some more time

with the lady.

At the cash counter :-

Tha lad :- Hi, you remember?

The lady :- Oh yes, you , you came at morning, right ?

The lad:- yes!

“ So. How was your selling?” the lad asked in some naughty style.

“ yeah, it’s good” the lady replied. You have done a lot of shopping today. These all are for you

or someone else.

“aaaaaaa, no, not only me, but also some general goods for my aunt.” The lad replied.

“ok, but earlier, I never saw you, have you recently shift here? The lady asked.

“oh no ! actually I don’t live here, I came here to meet with my uncle and aunt and pass my

weekend.” The lad replied.

“ok, the lady said with relaxation, “that’s why I saw you very first time at the morning, because I

never saw you.”

The lady had been engaged in billing, during this, she also talked with the lad. The lad wascontinuously looking on the face of the lady. Actually he was searching for something and that

thing was her worthless smile. But it had not happened. the lady had done all the work and given

the final bill to the lad. But it was still a subject of waiting. This time he had not given money in

cash rather he had given his credit card. The lady had taken the card with little smile, but this

was not that smile.



After proceeding the card in the machine, the lady said, “So, Mr. Raj, please sign here…….”the

lady said with giving the same smile for which, Raj was waiting for.

“Thanks!” the lady replied as Raj has signed on the bill.

“Thank you too, but you didn’t tell me your name…………” Raj asked about the name of thelady.

“I am Ritham,…………..” The lady has introduced herself.

“Nice name…….” Raj said.

“Thanks……………” Ritham replied with smile.

“Ok Ritham, bye…………..” Raj has taken his bag and went away from the store. The smile of

Ritham catches Raj every time, and he came to the store continuously. Any problem, any need,

or sometimes, only just passing time, he came to store and meets with Ritham. Ritham’s smile

had made totally mesmerized Raj. In last three days, Raj has went to the store more than 20

times.

Now, Raj and Ritham, both were become good friends. On Saturday, when Raj was at store, he

said, “ aaaaaaaa Ritham…………..”

“Yes”, Ritham replied.

“will you free tomorrow?” Raj asked.

“Yes, but why ?” Ritham surprisingly asked.

“Actually, day after tomorrow, I am leaving, so, I thought if tomorrow, we can visit

somewhere…………..”

“Why you are leaving day after tomorrow…….? Ritham asked more astingonisaly.

“My leaves are going to over, so I have to go? Raj replied.

“Ok, but tomorrow……………..” Ritham was going to complete her statement, but at the same

time, Raj intruppted and said, “Oh, please don’t say no………….”

“Okkkk…………..” Ritham said and agree to go with Raj .

On the next day, Raj meets with Ritham and they went for a long drive. Raj was driving his

uncle’s Maruti Alto, Ritham was sitting beside him. During the way, both were trying to say

something but both were not able to get enough confidence to speak up.

“Last night, when you went away from the store, I started thinking and thinking for more times.

A lot of questions arises in my mind. Like, should I go with you or not, or why I should go with



you although I don’t know much more about you, only on the basis of the friendship of just 3

days, how I can go with you. Like that a lot of questions interrupted my mind again and again.

After that I don’t know what was the beautiful time when I decided that Yes, definetly I should

go with you.”Ritham said in very serious voce.

“Oh that’s my pleasure…………”Raj replied, “After all, I am also not very bad person and myintension to offer you to came with me was also not means any kind of wrong thinking.”

“Hey, I know that…………………”Ritham said further.

“Well well, why you are so anguish, I was just joking. Well I don’t know much about Delhi, so

please advice me where to go for sitting and passing some times peacefully.” Raj asked about

any suitable destination.

“Aaaaaaa, there are a lot of good places to visit.” Ritham still didn’t finished but Raj interrupted

and said, “ Which place you like more?”

“ I like Scone temple.” Ritham advices.

“Ok then we will go there” Raj said.

“Yeah, why not !” Ritham replied.

“Where you have to go? Ritham asked.

“Coimbatore!” Raj answered.

“oh, it’s very far, and what are you doing there?” Ritham further asked.

“Obviously, I am working there.” Raj answered.

“No, that I understand, but in which company, you are working?”

“ I am working with National Academy of Commando Training.” Raj has been given his full

identity.

“Ooooooo, than you are with Indian force.” Ritham surprisingly asked.

“yes, we trained the commandos.” Raj further said.

“Oh my goodness that I am with such kind of eminent personality. Great!” Ritham said.

“Hey Ritham don’t embarrass me, first we are good friends, after that I am a commando.”Raj

emotionally said.

“Ok sir, sorry!..................”Ritham said with same smile.



“Don’t say sorry and advice me for a good place where we can sit and have some chat.” Raj said

with happy mood.

“well,, we should go for C.P”. Ritham replied.

They reached to C.P, where they have a good time in central park.

“you know Raj, I have very limited friend circle, but you are the most recent but more nearer to

my heart. Ritham said in little emotional mood.

“Really ! oh it’s my pleasure.” Raj replied with smiling face.

Hey Raj, tell me the time when you was serious last time.” Ritham said

“Ha ha ha, I and serious? Oh…………… it is just like a enemy and good.”Raj replied.

“But how you cope up with your profession.” Ritham surprisingly said.

“In our profession, people are more unserious.” Raj replied.

“Oh, leave it ! I know that commandos are more disciplined and well mannered.” Ritham said.

“Yeah you are right, but the commandos have also their personal life, they also want to enjoy,

play and lot of fun.” Raj replied.

“ok sir ! you are right. Fine .” Ritham appraise Raj.

They have been enjoyed a whole day in different places of Delhi. Both has made a good fun.

Really the day was one of the best day in the life of both peoples.

At the end of the day-

“Well Ritham, due to you I have live a unforgettable life you in this day. Thanks a lot.” Raj said.

“Me too………………….” Ritham replied with little smile.

“So, when you will come again?” Ritham asked.

“never…………….” Raj Replied.

“Why”

“For whom I come here ?” Raj replied with very slow voice but matching eyes with Ritham.

Ritham has given a smile and said, “Life is very small, nobody predict about tomorrow. So, don’t

hide anything with you.”



Raj was silent for a moment and said in interval of one breadth, “ Ritham I love you, I don’t

know why but I love you. Will you merry me?”

Raj’s face was full with sweats. He was looking like a accused of a crime.

Ritham smiled and said, “You are a fool”.

“Hey but you didn’t gave answer of my question” Raij said.

“I DON’T KNOW” Ritham said and start walking.

“Hey, I have very less time. Tomorrow I will have to leave. I am still waiting for your answer.”

Raj said loudly.

Ritham didn’t say anything.

Next day at the station, Raj was waiting for his train. He was reading a magazine. Suddenly he

saw a girl standing in front of him. That was Ritham. She first smiled and then said, “So, Mr.Raj, it is very bad to go away without knowing the answer from whom you asked the question.”

“I know but ……………………….” Raj said with little bit shy face.

“you stupid, idiot and fool.” Ritham said.

“yeah, I am, but I know that you will make me perfect.” Raj replied.

“duffer ! …………… come back soon, I will be waiting.” Ruchi said.

“For what?” Raj said.

“for becoming Mrs. Raj” Ritham replied.

“ I love you………………..” Raj was very happy.

“I love you too……….. take care of yourself.” Ritham hugs Raj.

Raj went away happily …………………..



After 5 years……………………

“Captain! It is your duty to help your troop member first then after you can think about your own safety.

I believe on all the commandos of my team. This is the time when we can prove ourselves. The work is

tough but not impossible, and we only the guys who can do it. So, lets ready to work for our morals”.

Brigadier General Ashok Singh Rathore addresses the troop of commandos lead by captain Raj

Singhania.

“Definitely sir ! it’s our promise that we will not disappoint you.” Captain replied.

“I aspect so!” General further sid.

“My pleasure sir!” Captain replied.

‘Well, then don’t be late, start your mission.” General has been given command to starting the mission.

The troops has been going their way to mission as directions by Captain Raj Singhania.

Actually there was a terrorist attack in Ooty , where a luxury bus has been hijacked . The terrorists has a

lot of demand against releasing passengers. For releasing the passengers from terrorists, govt. has been

delegated the task to special commando force with army members.

The commando troop reached to the place, but it has been comes to know that there is delay in coming of

army force. Captain Raj has been observed the place from his vernacular. The condition of the place hasnot been very satisfactorily to Captain. The condition was really worst. There was a big cottage full with

terrorists, the bus has been stranded in front of the cottage the tires of us has been damaged. There was

four persons around the bus. The passengers were still in the bus.

“Oh! It’s disgusting. It is a big inn of terrorists. They may be 20-25 in numbers. They have weapons.

How much time remaining in coming of force ?” Captain said to commando Ajit singh.

“it will take more than 2 hrs, sir” Ajit singh replied.

“Oh fuck !it’s very late.” Captain said with little bit frustration.

“So sir what we can do? We have to wait ?” Ajit Singh asked.

“No, we can’t wait for them. We have very less time. They will start killing the passengers after every

alternate hours. We are here to save innocent peoples and we have to do that.” Captain said.

“Right sir, but…………..” Ajit want to say something, but at the same time captain interrupted and said,”

no if no but, let’s start.”

“Yes sir.” Everyone said.



“listen!, there are four persons out of the cottage who are observing the bus, take positions on four

different areas with snipers. When the order provide, fire and kill all the four busters together. At the

same time one person will speedily run to the bus and release the passengers. All other guys should be

ready from their positions, because any time, the other terrorists can attack from the cottage. We have two

tasks, prior we have to save passengers and after that we have also kill all those bloody fuckers”. Captain

has describe the whole plan.

“is that clear ?” Captain said.

“Yes sir, “ all the member said.

Ok, then take your positions, Madan, Raju, Srinivas and Joseph will be taking position with snipers.

Other members will taking positions from all sides of the cottage, they will have to active, at any time

they will have to fire. Ajit and me will be here, one of us will ran to bur for releasing the passengers and

another will be here to making the passengers save until coming of the force. All the members will be

active as soon as the sniper mans start working”. Captain has given the order to march

Everyone has marched only captain and Ajit were left there. Firstly, Ajit has some dilemma in his mind.

He thought that captain will remain there and send him to release the passengers. A lot of unnecessary

thinking’s has been raised in his mind. He thought that captain is very selfish who doesn’t want to take

risk and send him to danger. But his dilemma ends when captain said, “ Ajit, I will run to bus for

releasing the passengers, but you have to give me a promise”.

“what sir?” Ajit asked.

“there is very precious thing in the bus, please take care of that.” Captain said with little bit emotions.

“but why you will go sir? No, I will go. You will be stay here.” Ajit said.

“No, Ajit, you are too young to go there, you are like my younger brother and I will not send you to

hell.” Captain said in dominated voice.

“No sir, I will do well……………………….” Once again interrupted and said.

“Don’t argue with me.” Captain said.

A huge fight took place between the terrorists and the commando force. But the captain Raj’s idea worked

and the commando forces had been able to control the situation. All the passengers had been came in the

commando van and they had been sent to the commando headquarters. But captain Raj has beenwounded. One terrorist had stabbed him with a sharp knife. He was in a serious condition but he refised to

go with the van.

Captain laying down at the cottage. Flowing of blood was not stoppable from his stomach. Ajit was with

him. They were waiting for force at the place to ensure that the area is safe.



“Ajit, please give me some water.” Captain asked for water . his voice was starting to be little slow, the

energy level seems to be down. Captain’s condition was not very good. His nonstop bleeding from

stomach and left Thai clarifies his worst condition.

“Sir, you are not well, and you should go with the van. Why sir?” Ajit said with very grief.

“Oh no Ajit, we can’t left the place until force will come. There may be possibilities of more terrorists

and I can’t take chance. Don’t worry I am fine and still in position to kill at least hundred of bustards”.

Captain said, but his voice has not that thing for which he was known.

“but sir, ………………” Ajit said but interrupted.

“Hey Ajit, I am fine and after all any time force will be come. So, don’t worry and please give me some

more water.” Captain asked for water.

It was a time when passing of every second was looking like passing of every moment of captain’s life.

Eyes become hard, voice has been more slower , everything start leaving captain.

“Ajit………….”captain said by closed eyes.

“yes sir.” Ajit replied.

“Where are you?” Captain said seeming like inconceious.

“I am here sir, beside you.” Ajit replied by holding captain’s hand.

“thanks Ajit, don’t go anywhere…..” Captain said.

“Ajit, please give me more water ………………..” Captain asked for more water.

Ajit has been given water, after that captain asked for let him sit, Ajit has been sited him with the supportof wall.

“Sir, wait! There may be some medic pack in my bag, it will reduce your pain.” Ajit said but captain

refused for thet.

‘No Ajit, don’t go anywhere, this pain is my destiny and now it will be end up with me.” Captain said.

“No sir, why you are saying that? nothing will be happen with you, force is coming within half an hour. “

Ajit consolidate captain.

“Ah force ! “Captain has taken a long breadth.

“Ajit, in life, we don’t get everything but yes, we hope for that till last breadth. That smile which cost a

billion dollar………………………” Captain went on to imagination.

“which smile sir?” Ajit asked.

“Smile ! it was not only a smile, but a billion dollar smile…………..” captain said with more eagerness

and excitement. It was just like a candle which become more brighter before ending,



“Sir, it is still unclear, please describe in detail.” Ajit said.

“Yeah, it is unclear……………. It starts when a 22 yrs Old lad had saw a girl working in a store on cash

counter. There was nothing special in her but one thing that made her different from others was her smile.

Her smile describes the brightness of her face. The smile has mesmerized the lad. He came every time to

the store without any reason. He purchased articles more in quantity which were no need, for just passing

more time at counter for watching the girl and her final greet which was her billion dollar smile.

Everybody in the store had been get familiar with the lad. The frequency of girl’s smile had been

increased. The lad waits for her smile and she smiled. The time passed and the weekend of the lad came

to an end. But till date, the lad was totally fall in utopia of her natural beauty, and he was in a position to

can’t leave her anyway as well as he had not enough confidence to say her that he is in love with her. The

dilemma was very unfavorable. The final day came, when he had to leave. He had been offered the girl to

went for a long drive before leaving. That time, he had some confidence and his confidence increased

when she was agreed.” Captain has sheared some past experience with Ajit.

“Exiting sir!, please sir tell me what happened after that, did he proposed her?” Ajit asked.

“wait-wait, I am describing, oh! This fucking pain.” Captain feels some more pain from his wounded

body parts.

“Sir you wait, I am bringing the painkiller.” Ajit tried to go for bringing painkiller injection but captain

has stopped him and said, “Ajit, don’t go anywhere please,

“But sir……………………..” Ajit said.

“Yes, I am all right, this pain is my destiny.” Captain said.

“Hey Ajit, don’t go otherwise, my story will be incomplete forever.” Captain said with little smile on his

face.

‘Sir but……………….” Ajit want to say something.

“Sit down man, I am alright now.” Captain said.

“Sure ………….?’Ajit asked .

“Yes man.” Captain replied.

“So listen, the lad had a lot of plans in his mind. He plans that he will say that, this and much more with

the girl. But the same has not happened. He was like speechless in front of the girl when he meet with her.

The whole day passed away, but he was unable to tell anything with her. He has tell everything but didn’ttell the three words for the he has passed the whole day with the girl. He had not enough confidence to

say her that three words. Finally he reached to the place where he had to drop her, he stopped her car and

still in a dilemma to say her or not. The girl said bye, he also say the same, once again the girl said bye,

the world’s biggest fool was not understanding that the girl also want to listen those words from him.”

Captain said and asked for some water.

“Interesting sir! What happens after that ?” Ajit asked for results.

because I don’t want to gave her a new grief. As per order, every passenger left the bus and ran towards

the commando van. During this, she saw me and stopped, but I loudly ordered everyone to run faster, Her

husband pulled her hand and she ran away with him. I continuously looking towards her and she turned

back and stand on the way. I know that if she came, she will never go. I went to her and said, “Please go !,

for the shake of our love. Please and don’t move backwards.” And she ran away. The van also moved. I

was still stand at the place and didn’t know the there was a eunuch behind me and that bloody ……… had

stabbed me, but I turned back and broke his neck without any weapon.” Captain summarized all the story.

Ajit’s eyes full with tears. At the time,, he saw the plenty of vehicles coming near to him. The force ws

coming but Captain has very few minutes left.

“ Sir, sir , force is coming. Sir don’t worry you will be all right.” Ajit said but not able to stop his ters.

“Hey Ajit, don’t be hopeless, we won. Don’t worry about me. I have dedicated my total life for others,

now I am tired and want to sleep but I will come back. So, don’t be hopeless and promise me that you

will be leave my life and dedicated towards your nation. You will be the next Captain Raj Singhania,

promise me.” Captain’s last statement to Ajit.

“I promise you sir.” Ajit said holding captain’s hand.

Captain has taken a breadth and goes away to the world of love and peace with smiling face and open

eyes. Ajit has closed the eyes of captain.

That was the end of captain’s story. Is that true love? Or just one sided love. I don’t know but waiting for your opinion about your love which makes you as crazy as you never expect.
