Breaking Down Bus Transport Costs

• Operating and maintenance

- Fixed and Variable

• Capital

- Implementation

- Ongoing replacement/renewal

- Bringing system to state of good repair

Page 13: Bike Sharing

Total Cost = Operating Cost + Capital Cost

• Operating / Maintenance Cost are for items consumed in less than one year

e.g., Labor , fuel , vehicle replacement parts

• Capital Costs are expenses for long term assets, expressed as depreciation

e.g., buses , maintenance depots , stations

Page 14: Bike Sharing

Initial Capital

• Round Trip Distance = 5Km per trip

• Number of Routes = 8

• Number of trips = 8 (hourly)

• Bus Capacity = 60

• Total load =1200 per hr

• Number of buses = 20

• Cost of buses = 15 * 20 lacs = 3 Crs.

Estimated Running Cost

• Bus Mileage = 4kmpl

• Distance travelled = 5 * 8 * 20 = 800 km

• Diesel Requirement = 200 ltrs per day

• Fuel Cost = 200 * 60 = INR12,000 per day

Page 16: Bike Sharing

Annual Maintenance Cost

• For Non AC buses = INR 4 per km

• Distance travelled = 5 * 8 * 365 = 14600

• AMC = INR 58,400 per bus

• Total AMC = INR 11,68,000

Page 17: Bike Sharing

Labor Cost

• Driver + Helper = INR 20,000 per month

Page 18: Bike Sharing

Total Variable Cost

• Annual Fuel Cost = INR 43,80,000

• AMC = INR 11,68,000

• Annual Labor Cost = INR 48,00,000

• Total = INR 1,03,48,000

Our Proposal

• Campus Wide Cycle Sharing Program

• 8,000 green , blue , red , yellow cycles

• Oppa KGP-style

• Cycles spread all around campus

• Foster inter-building collaboration

Page 21: Bike Sharing

Advantages

• Allows people to depart from point "A" and arrive at point "B" free from the worries of ownership

• No Dependency for movement

• No Theft Concerns

• Relief for visitors in campus

• Green Campus
