IITS has helped Corpus Christi organizations feed the poor and hungry through our communion offerings, and September 7 we will give to the Big Garden. The Big Garden began in 2005 in East Omaha, Nebraska, an urban food desert with diverse population, many of whom live at or below the poverty line. In 2009, the Big Garden expanded to include rural communities in Nebraska, and in 2011, it expanded again to reach into Kansas. The program has responded to community needs, including long distances between residents and sources of fresh food, lack of fresh nutritious food at local food pantries, and lack of space for neighborhood gardens. It also helps with health literacy needs, such as food preparation, basic nutrition information, and exposure to healthy foods, recipes, and cooking resources. The Big Garden has produced more than 80 self-sustaining gardens. Those gardens have created new programs, including farmers markets, wholesale sales to local grocery stores, fresh food pantries, and nutritious snacks for school and church programs. Other beneficiaries are WIC, senior centers, community meals, cooking classes, and a seed bank. James 2:14-17, New International Version, says, “What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,’ but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” Matthew 25:40 (NIV) says, “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’” Please prayerfully consider the Big Garden with your September 7 communion offering. Hungry PeopleHungry People Do you have any idea how it feels to be really

hungry, with little to eat and no prospect of obtaining food in the near future?

The Big Garden has produced more than 80

self-sustaining gardens.

In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” Matthew 25:40 (NIV) says, “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’”

Please prayerfully consider the Big Garden with your September 7 communion offering.
