Tripura Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd
Tripura Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd (TCMPUL) was registered under
the Societies Act on 2nd March, 1982. The Area of operation of TCMPUL is the
West Tripura District covering human population of area 13,93,861 (Census-2001)
and the decadal growth of such population is 18.29% (1991-2001). The average
growth rate in milk production is 2.04 (TCMPUL, Annual Reprt:2004-05 to 2008-
09).���������� �������������������������������
a. Capacity of Agartala Dairy Plant
It was installed in 1980-81, expanded to 19,000 litres per day in the year 2010 under
IDDP-III. It handles yearly turnover of Milk Union is Rs.12.90 crore on an average
and Milk Union owns Dairy Plant, Animal Feed Plant & Bulk Milk Cooling Station.
58 regular & 15 temporary employees are in the pay roll of Milk Union. Milk Union
is managing Dharmanagar Dairy Project of ARDD for last 4 years. (Annual Reports.
TCMPU. 2004-2005 to 2008-09).
b. Procurement of milk
For the procurement of milk, vehicles are plying in 5 different milk routes to collect
milk from village dairy cooperatives round the year with maximum procurement
recorded 4500 LPD. The Milk Union is providing balanced cattle feed to the farmers
at supportive price, free technical input services for animal health care and fodder
cultivation. Monthly financial assistance is provided to all the village dairy
cooperatives. The total quantity of milk procured along with the membership during
the study period 2004-05 to 2008-09 is given in Table 1.

c. Types of Products handled-
The Union has started to sell a number of mik products such as Toned Milk, Double
Toned Milk, Whole Milk (cows), Paneer, Misti Dhoi, Ghee, Ice-Cream, etc. Here, a
study of the milk procurement as well as the marketing aspects TCMPUL is taken up
in details.
d. Membership Profile-
Table 2, provides the total registered member in various Dairy Cooperative Societies
registered under Tripura Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd. The total members
of various Dairy Cooperatives in the year 2004-05 was 4310 which has risen to 4575

e. Marketing of Milk & Milk Products-
Marketing area of TCMPUL comprises mainly Agartala city and its suburbs. Milk is
also supplied to various institutions like Hospitals, Jail and Sports school. At present
the dairy is marketing 14,500 litre milk. Apart from liquid milk, Paneer, Misti Doi,
Ice-cream and flavoured milk are regularly produced and marketed. Table-3 shows
the total Collection of Milk and milk products by TCMPUL.
