CHAPTER 11 Paul and Timothy, servants
of Jesus Christ, to a ll thesaints in Christ Jesus atPhilippi, with the Bishops andDeacons of the church:2 Grace to you and peace
from God our Father and theLord Jesus Christ.3 I give praise to my God at
every memory of you,
4 And in al l my prayers foryou all , making my requestwith joy,5 Because of your help in
giv ing the good news fromthe first day till now;6 For I am certa in of this
very thing, that he by whomthe good work was started inyou will make it complete ti l lthe day of Jesus Christ:7 So it is right for me to take
thought for you a ll in th isway, because I have you inmy heart; for in my chains, and in my arguments beforethe judges in support of thegood news, making clear thati t is true, you al l have yourpart with me in grace.8 For God is my witness, how
my love goes out to you all inthe loving mercies of ChristJesus.9 And my prayer is that you
may be increased more andmore in knowledge and expe-rience;10 So that you may give your
approval to the best things;that you may be true andwithout wrongdoing t il l theday of Christ;11 Being full of the fruits of
righteousness, which arethrough Jesus Chr ist, to theglory and praise of God.12 Now it is my purpose to
make clear to you, brothers, that the cause of the good
news has been helped by myexperiences;13 So that i t became clear
through all the Praetorium, and to all the rest, that I wasa prisoner on account of Christ;14 And most of the brothers
in the Lord, taking heart be-cause of my chains, are allthe stronger to give the wordof God without fear.15 Though some are preach-
ing Chris t out of envy andcompetition, others do it outof a good heart:16 These do it from love,
conscious that I am responsi-ble for the cause of the goodnews:17 But those are preaching
Christ in a spir it of competi-t ion, not from their hearts, but with the purpose of givingme pain in my prison.18 What then? only that in
every way, falsely or truly, the preaching of Christ goeson; and in this I am glad, and

will be glad.19 For I am conscious that
this will be for my salvation, through your prayer and thegiving out of the stored
wealth of the Spir it of JesusChrist,20 In the measure of my
strong hope and belief that innothing will I be put toshame, but that without fear,as at a ll t imes, so now wil lChrist have glory in my body,by life or by death.21 For to me li fe is Chr ist
and death is profit.
22 But if I go on living in thefleshif this is the fruit of myworkthen I do not see whatdecision to make.23 I am in a hard posit ion
between the two, hav ing adesire to go away and be withChr ist, which is very muchbetter:24 Still , to go on in the flesh
is more necessary because of
you.25 And being certain of this,
I am conscious that I wi l l goon, yes, and go on with youall, for your growth and joy inthe faith;26 So that your pride in me
may be increased in Christ Je-sus through my being presentwith you again.27 Only let your behaviour
do credit to the good news ofChrist, so that i f I come andsee you or i f I am away fromyou, I may have news of youthat you are strong in onespirit, working together withone soul for the faith of thegood news;
28 Having no fear of thosewho are against you; which isa clear sign of their destruc-t ion, but of your salvation,and that from God;
29 Because to you it hasbeen given in the cause of Christ not only to have faithin him, but to undergo painon his account:30 Fighting the same fight
which you saw in me, andnow have word of in me.
CHAPTER 21 If then there is any comfort
in Chr ist, any help given bylove, any uniting of hearts inthe Spirit, any loving merciesand pity,2 Make my joy complete by
being of the same mind, hav-ing the same love, being inharmony and of one mind;3 Doing nothing through
envy or through pride, butwith low thoughts of self let
everyone take others to bebetter than himself;4 Not looking everyone to his
private good, but keeping inmind the things of others.5 Let this mind be in you
which was in Christ Jesus,6 To whom, though himself in
the form of God, it d id notseem that to take for oneselfwas to be like God;
7 But he made h imself asnothing, taking the form of aservant, being made like men;8 And being seen in form as
a man, he took the lowestplace, and let himself be putto death, even the death ofthe cross.

9 For this reason God has puthim in the highest place andhas given to h im the namewhich is greater than everyname;
10 So that at the name of Je-sus every knee may be bent,of those in heaven and thoseon earth and those in the un-derworld,11 And that every tongue
may give witness that JesusChrist is Lord, to the glory ofGod the Father.12 So then, my loved ones,
as you have at all times done
what I say, not only when Iam present , but now muchmore when I am not with you, give yourselves to workingout your salvation with fear inyour hearts;13 For i t is God who is the
cause of your desires and ofyour acts, for his good plea-sure.14 Do all things without
protests and arguments;15 So that you may be holy
and gentle, chi ldren of Godwithout sin in a twisted andfoolish generat ion, amongwhom you are seen as l ightsin the world,16 Offering the word of l ife;
so that I may have glory inyou in the day of Christ, be-cause my running was not for
nothing and my work was notwithout effect.17 And even if I am offered
l ike a drink offer ing, giv ingmyself for the cause and workof your fai th, I am glad andhave joy with you all:18 And in the same way do
you be glad and have a partin my joy.19 But I am hoping in the
Lord Jesus to send Timothy toyou before long, so that I may
be comforted when I havenews of you.20 For I have no man of l ike
mind who will truly have carefor you.21 For they all go after what
is theirs, not after the thingsof Christ.22 But his quality is clear to
you; how, as a chi ld is to itsfather, so he was a help to
me in the work of the goodnews.23 Him then I am hoping to
send as quickly as possible, when I am able to see howthings will go for me:24 But I have faith in the
Lord that I myself wil l comebefore long.25 But it seemed to me nec-
essary to send to you Epa-
phroditus, my brother, whohas taken part with me in thework and in the f ight, andyour servant, sent by you forhelp in my need;26 Because his heart was
with you all, and he wasgreatly troubled because youhad news that he was ill:27 For in fact he was i l l al -
most to death: but God had
mercy on him; and not onlyon him but on me, so that Imight not have grief on grief.28 I have sent him, then, the
more gladly, so that when yousee him again, you may behappy and I may have theless sorrow.

29 So take him to yourhearts in the Lord with all joy,and give honour to such as heis:30 Because for the work of
Christ he was near to death, putting his l ife in danger tomake your care for me com-plete.
CHAPTER 31 For the rest, my brothers,
be glad in the Lord. Writ ingthe same things to you is notrouble to me, and for you itis safe.
2 Be on the watch againstdogs, against the workers ofevil, against those of the cir-cumcision:3 For we are the circumci-
sion, who give worship to Godand have glory in JesusChrist, and have no faith inthe flesh:4 Even though I myself might
have faith in the flesh: if any
other man has reason to havefaith in the flesh, I havemore:5 Being given circumcision
on the eighth day, of the na-tion of Israel, of the tr ibe ofBenjamin, a Hebrew of He-brews; in relation to the law,a Pharisee:6 In bitter hate I was cruel to
the church ; I kept all the
r ighteousness of the law tothe last detail.7 But those th ings which
were profit to me, I gave upfor Christ.8 Yes truly, and I am ready to
give up all things for theknowledge of Christ Jesus my
Lord, which is more than all:for whom I have undergonethe loss of al l things, and tome they are less than noth-ing, so that I may have Christ
as my reward,9 And be seen in h im, not
having my righteousnesswhich is of the law, but thatwhich is through faith inChrist, the righteousnesswhich is of God by faith:10 That I may have knowl-
edge of him, and of the powerof his coming back from thedead, and a part with him in
his pains, becoming l ike himin his death;11 I f in any way I may have
the reward of l ife f rom thedead.12 Not as i f I had even now
got the reward or been madecomplete: but I go on in thehope that I may come to theknowledge of that for which Iwas made the servant of
Christ Jesus.13 Brothers, it is clear to me
that I have not come to thatknowledge; but one thing Ido, let ting go those thingswhich are past, and stretchingout to the things which arebefore,14 I go forward to the mark,
even the reward of the highpurpose of God in Chr ist Je-
sus.15 Then let us all, who have
come to full growth, be of thismind: and if in anything youare of a different mind, eventhis wil l God make c lear toyou:16 Only, as far as we have

got, let us be guided by thesame rule.17 Brothers, take me as your
example , and take note o f those who are walking after
the example we have given.18 For there are those, of
whom I have given you wordbefore, and do so now withsorrow, who are haters of thecross of Christ;19 Whose end is destruction,
whose god is the stomach, and whose glory is in the irshame, whose minds are fixedon the things of the earth.
20 For our country is inheaven; from where theSaviour for whom we are wait-ing wil l come, even the LordJesus Christ:21 By whom this poor body
of ours wil l be changed intothe image of the body of hisglory, in the measure of theworking by which he is able toput all things under himself.
CHAPTER 41 So my brothers, well loved
and very dear to me, my joyand crown, be strong in theLord, my loved ones.2 I make request to Euodias
and Syntyche to be o f thesame mind in the Lord.3 And I make request to you,
true helper in my work, to see
to the needs of those womenwho took part with me in thegood news, with Clement andthe rest of my brother-work-ers whose names are in thebook of life.4 Be glad in the Lord at al l
times: again I say, Be glad.
5 Let your gentle behaviourbe clear to all men. The Lordis near.6 Have no cares; but in ev-
erything with prayer and
praise put your requests be-fore God.7 And the peace of God,
which is deeper than allknowledge, wil l keep yourhearts and minds in Christ Je-sus.8 For the rest, my brothers,
whatever things are true, whatever things have honour, whatever things are upright,
whatever th ings are holy, whatever things are beautiful, whatever things are of value,i f there is any virtue and i f there is any praise, givethought to these things.9 The things which came to
you by my teaching andpreaching, and which you sawin me, these things do, andthe God of peace will be with
you.10 But I am very glad in the
Lord that your care for mehas come to life again;though you did in fact takethought for me, but you werenot able to give effect to it.11 But I will not say anything
about my needs, for I amable, wherever I am, to be de-pendent on myself.
12 I t is the same to me i f Iam looked down on or hon-oured; everywhere and in allthings I have the secret of how to be ful l and how to gowithout food; how to havewealth and how to be in need.13 I am able to do all things

through him who gives mestrength.14 But you did well to have
care for me in my need.15 And you have knowledge,
Phi lippians, that when thegood news first came to you, when I went away from Mace-donia, no church took partwith me in the bus iness of giving to the saints, but youonly;16 Because even in Thessa-
lonica you sent once andagain to me in my need.17 Not that I am looking for
an offering, but for fruit whichmay be put to your credit.18 I have all things and more
than enough: I am made full, having had from Epaphroditusthe things which came fromyou, a perfume of a sweetsmell, an offering well pleas-ing to God.19 And my God will give you
all you have need of from the
wealth of his glory in Chr istJesus.20 Now to God our Father be
glory for ever and ever. So beit.21 Give words of love to ev-
ery saint in Christ Jesus. Thebrothers who are with mesend you their love.22 All the saints send their
love to you, special ly those
who are of Caesars house.23 The grace of the Lord Je-
sus Christ be with your spirit.
