CHAPTER 11 Jude, a servant of Jesus Chr is t

and the brother of James, to those ofGods selection who have been madeholy by God the Father and are keptsafe for Jesus Christ:2 May mercy and peace and love be

increased in you.3 My loved ones, while my

thoughts were full of a letter whichI was going to send you about our

common salvation, it was necessaryfor me to send you one requestingyou with all my heart to go on fight-ing strongly for the faith which hasbeen given to the saints once and forever.4 For certain men have come among

you secretly, marked out before inthe holy Writings for this evil fate, men without the fear of God, turninghis grace into an unclean thing, and

false to our only Master and Lord,Jesus Christ.5 Now it is my purpose to put you

in mind, though you once hadknowledge of a ll these things, ofhow the Lord, having taken a peoplesafe ly out of Egypt , la ter sent de-struction on those who had no faith;6 And the angels who did not keep

to their kingdom but went out fromthe place which was theirs , he has

put in e te rnal cha ins and in darknight t i l l the great day of the judg-ing.7 Even as Sodom and Gomorrah,

and the towns near them, having likethese , g iven themselves up to un-clean desires and gone after strangeflesh, have been made an example,

undergoing the punishment of eter-nal fire.8 In the same way these dreamers

make the f lesh unclean, having norespect for authorities, and say evilof rulers.9 Now when Michael, one of the

chief angels, was f ighting againstthe Evil One for the body of Moses, fearing to make use of violent wordsagainst him, he only said, May the

Lord be your judge.10 But these men say evi l about

such things as they have no knowl-edge o f; and the things o f whichthey have natural knowledge, l ikebeasts without reason, are the causeof their destruction.11 A curse on them! They have

gone in the way of Cain, running un-controlled into the error of Balaamfor reward, and have come to de-

struction by saying evil against theLord, like Korah.12 These men are unseen rocks at

your love-feasts , when they takepar t in them with you, keepers ofsheep who without f ea r t ake thefood of the sheep; c louds wi thoutwat er r us hi ng be fo re t he win d,wasted t rees wi thout f ru it , twicedead, pulled up by the roots,13 Violent w aves of the sea,

streaming with their shame, wander-ing stars for whom the darkest nightis kept in store for ever.14 The prophet Enoch, who was the

seventh after Adam, said of thesemen, The Lord came with tens ofthousands of his saints,15 To be the judge of a l l , and to

g ive a dec is ion aga inst a ll thosewhose l ives are unpleasing to him, because of the evil acts which theyhave done, and because of a ll thehard things which sinners without

fear of God have said against him.16 These are the men who make

trouble, ever desiring change, goingafter evi l p leasures , u sing h igh-sounding words, respecting mensposition in the hope of reward.17 But you, my loved ones, keep in

memory the words which were saidbefore by the Apostles of our LordJesus Christ,18 How they said to you, In the last

days there will be men who, guidedby their evil desires, will make sportof holy things.19 These are the men who make di-

visions, natural men, not having theSpirit.20 But you, my loved ones, build-

ing yourselves up on your most holyfai th , and mak ing p rayers in theHoly Spirit,21 Keep yourselves in the love of

God, looking for life eternal throughthe mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ.22 And have pity on those who are

in doubt;23 And to some g ive salva tion ,

pulling them out of the fire; and onsome have mercy with fear , hatingeven the clothing which is made un-clean by the flesh.24 Now to him who is able to keep

you from falling, and to give you aplace in his glory, free from all evil, with great joy,25 To the only God our Saviour,

through Jesus Christ our Lord, let usgive glory and honour and authorityand power, before all time and nowand for ever. So be it.
