Sharing an Unforgettable Experience

When young people came together in St. Paul’s Cathedral for ‘The 2012 Commissioning’, it promised to be inspiring. b+h were happy to provide technical support, with a distributed PA system and video projection on multiple plasma screens. Presentations and music culminated with the spectacular finish of the cathedral doors being opened for a processional into the sunset.

‘This was a real one-off event, and extra-ordinary – with a challenging building, in terms of acoustics and sight-lines; liaising with an array of Cathedral and Diocesan personnel; an extremely tight set-up time,’ notes the Revd Ruth Bushyager, Missioner for the Diocese of London. ‘The stakes felt high, and yet I need not have had any anxiety! b+h were outstanding – and 2,500 young Londoners experienced an evening they may never forget. b+h’s professionalism and intuition on the ground were great – they saw what needed adding in and sensitively got on with it. They were utterly key to delivering one of the flagship Diocesan events of the decade, and I now join their long list of customers who recommend them to others!’

Creative Co-ordinationWhen Westminster Chapel needed a refurbishment of their technical patch system, they chose b+h to support this technically and to update the programme.

Also, b+h technically support some of the events which take place at this impressive venue. The team were able to put their expertise into practice at a major event, the Men’s Conference in London. Technical equipment had to go under the main circular pulpit. The team built a bespoke patch panel to make it easier to plug in microphones.

Mike Hyde of Westminster Chapel notes, ‘The b+h team built panels that were user friendly and more accessible. For example, they admirably ensured that video monitors negated the requirement of running cabling. They used their much appreciated professional expertise to co-ordinate and deliver creative approaches.’

Major Changes to an Unchanging LandmarkCentral to Poynton, Cheshire, St. George’s Church remains an important hub as well as a Grade II listed building. Last year saw three months of complete refurbishment with b+h providing sound and video projection and coordinating with other groups. A major requirement was to install cabling as discreetly as possible.

A full range audio system controlled by a Roland M400 Console with Martin Audio AQ Series speakers enables various parameters geared to the level of different users was installed. The b+h team used bespoke bracketry to brace the ceiling so that they could fly concealed speakers. They devised a screen winching system to accommodate the large attendance. A final touch was added when the screen box was sprayed to match the wall colour.

‘With their expertise, b+h creatively introduced state of the art A/V solutions to meet technical needs. Even when other aspects of the refurbishment were delayed, the b+h team worked to deadlines to ensure that projects were completed,’ explained Darren Allcock. ‘They were sympathetic to our 150 year church history yet were able to upgrade us into the 21st century.’

Cabinet Executed with Efficiencyb+h were recently asked to upgrade the cabinet system at the Salvation Army in Hadleigh during a floor refurbishment.

b+h’s Matthew Wickham worked together with the client to draw up a specification & drawing of their requirements. A plinth was designed to heighten the console to improve the visual aspect for the sound & camera operators, by being able to see above the heads of the congregation. This was used

together with b+h’s Modular Installation Cabinet range to house existing audio-visual equipment with provision for space for the future.

“The contract was executed with extreme efficiency, and the interruption to the Corps audio & visual services were kept to a minimum. This is the sort of service we have come to expect from b+h. The staff are exemplary in their courtesy & skills” said Robin Bryant of Hadleigh Temple Salvation Army.
