Welcome to the August edition of the Cray Meadows Newsletter. The month of July has been busy for the team. The team remain short staffed with Simon assisting Bexley Borough to reduce the amount of suspects that are shown wanted by police or who have failed to return when bailed by the police or courts. He has been doing this with PC’s from the central and north clusters of Bexley’s Safer neighbourhood Teams. There have been significant absences throughout the month due to Annual Leave. Despite this the team have achieved the following. The team have been dealing with a variety of matters over the month. We are working with B&Q to reduce the amount of thefts that are occurring at the venue. We have conducted several traffic initiatives over the month with 19 fixed penalty notices issued for a variety of offences from speeding to mobile phones and seatbelts. We have held a crime prevention stall at B&Q with the view to reducing the amount of crime and educating the community as how to protect their property. This was also to provide some high visibility support to the store. The team are currently investigating several offences trying to identify offenders and to bring them to justice. High visibility patrols have been maintained providing a constant presence in the area. The end of the month has seen the team supporting the “Lark in the Park“ event held at Sidcup Place. This annual event requires the support of all the teams form the cluster to ensure the smooth and safe running of the daily activities. Part of the event is to show to the younger individuals in the community what the police do and to show them some of the hardware available to police. On Saturday 31st July 2010 the Metropolitan Police helicopter arrived during the afternoon and remained for an hour allowing all present to have a look and to ask questions of the crew. In addition to this two carriers from the Territorial Support Group provided those present with hands on experience of some of the equipment used in a riot situation. The Marine Support Unit and the Borough Support Unit both provided equipment for all to see. What have we done lately?

One morning In the early hours, Julie Lloyd attended the home address of the rider of the scooter that has been the primary cause of complaint over the past months. She arrested this male for a variety of offences regarding the use of the bike. In custody, he was interviewed and fully admitted a variety of traffic offences. He was subsequently charged with two counts of driving with no licence. Two counts of driving whilst having no insurance, two counts of failing to stop for police and of course, not wearing a helmet. Unfortunately, he removed the bike and we were unable to seize it at the time, however, if it is seen again then it will be removed by police.

Please feel free to copy and pass this to anyone who may be concerned, to encourage support for the work the team does.
