For over 20 years, this family of ABOs has made the Amway business a way of life.

Their adventure with Amway began in October 1994. Daniela Mecozzi and Luigi Brasili were young entrepreneurs; they were 30 years old, with a daughter in primary school and a baby boy on the way. Now highly successful ABOs with a flourishing Amway business, they live and work in Sant’Elpidio a Mare, in the Fermo province of Le Marche, Italy. We asked Daniela and Luigi, and their children, Valentina and Federico, to share their stories.

Partners in business“Back in 1994, we were driven by dreams,” say Daniela and Luigi, “both personal and professional. But we were spending all our time in the family businesses, and the hectic pace was starting to affect us. We no longer had any time for ourselves, for the family or for travelling, which we’d always loved.” Then in June 1994 a school friend introduced them to the Amway Sales and Marketing Plan. They became eager to learn more and to see whether the business could satisfy their main requirement: to have more time for themselves without having to forgo an attractive income.

What’s immediately noticeable about this family is their strong sense of being partners in a business. “Building the Amway business with our children has been an amazing opportunity. Apart from its unlimited financial opportunities, the business has offered each of us the possibility to be better people by appreciating the true values in life. Now, more than ever, we’re proud that our children are following in our wake. Amway is an entrepreneurial option that perfectly balances career, quality of life and the sense of personal achievement.” And did the arrival of the younger members of the family alter the way the business ran? “Yes, the younger generation made an enormous contribution to the business. They provided a wave of renewal for us and our entire organisation – a new product presentation style, with more technology in the service of business development and young people joining.”

Flexible but focused on the goalValentina and Federico grew up in the business, absorbing the atmosphere of the Amway world. “Valentina started with Amway when she was still at university,” say Daniela and

Luigi. “She wanted to feel economically independent and in charge of her own business. Then she met Stefano, her husband, who was charmed by our ‘special lives’. Today they’re Platinums, with great aims for the future. Our son Federico was born along with our business. He dreams of a future with the achievements and freedom that our business can offer. He’s a great fan of his beloved XS™ Power Drinks! Federico has always been the entire family’s motivator: he drives us towards new goals.”

We asked Valentina and Federico to share their thoughts about working with their parents in the Amway business. “For 20 years now, Amway has been a certainty in our family, something real,” they reply. “A way of life. From our parents, we learnt to start along a path and then to pursue it with love, sacrifice and determination. The values of helping out within the family, understanding, cooperation, generosity, belief, self-confidence, being there for each other at all times – these are principles that they have not just taught us in words but in particular through their example and their daily actions. Being flexible but focused on the goal, thinking positively and being able always to find a solution to difficulties. Dream and then act! Only then can we make what we have in our hearts and minds come true.”

Freedom and happinessSharing is clearly important in the family – both the hard work and the well-deserved rewards. “Yes, that’s always been important in our family,” say Valentina and Federico. “When we achieved our first successes, they were there. We can see that for a parent it’s a strong emotion when you see your children make their wishes come true. Being happy. That’s what Amway can give: freedom and happiness.”

And which products do they especially like? “The first product I sold was an ARTISTRY essentials lotion,” says Valentina, “to a female friend of mine. I’m passionate about all the products – over 450 of them! I love keeping up to date about anything relating to beauty and wellbeing. Through these exclusive products, we give ourselves and those we meet the opportunity to feel beautiful and strong. I believe there’s no satisfaction greater than knowing that through the careful, targeted recommendation of certain items, people can feel good about themselves. All this is thanks to what Amway makes available … it’s fantastic!”

The internet is a rich source of tools to promote your business, and blogging is one you can use to reach and influence more people. In issue 5/2015, we explained what a blog is and how to get started. Now you know the basics, it’s time to increase your online networking skills, number of blog visitors and credibility as a business.

Make the right first impression Ask people of all ages to look at your blog.

Take your online content to the next level.

The business of

bloggingIs it easy to navigate for the first-time visitor? Are the colours fresh and attractive, and the layout clear? The first thing a reader gets when they visit a blog is a purely visual impression. If it’s cluttered with illegible fonts, challenging colour combinations and long blocks of unbroken text, they might run away – so stick to a simple colour scheme and a limited number of fonts. Formatting (bullet points, bold text, numbers and paragraphs) will make it

more reader-friendly. Images are also a way to break up blocks of text.

If visual design isn’t your strength, don’t fret! You can still make an attractive blog. Popular blogging platforms, such as WordPress, Blogger and Squarespace, offer free, ready-made templates. If you don’t want to host your own blog but still want to share stories online, Medium provides a simple, modern publishing platform where any writer can contribute content.

– and they’ll want your facts to be trustworthy. They are more likely to believe what you’re selling if you show them you use the products yourself. Just as product brands have a story, you as an ABO have a story, too. Build your reputation by sharing personal anecdotes and real-life stories. Are you a part-time ABO on your way to the next PIN level? Or an event promoter going on a road trip with a case of XS™ Power Drinks? Blogging is a creative project, and unique content will pique people’s interest.

Choose the right communitiesSpread the word that you have a blog by linking it into your email signature. You can share posts with individual recipients, too, but remember always to identify the right audience. For example, rather than simply forwarding a post about ARTISTRY™ to everyone in your address book, a better option would be to create an email group specifically for certain people, or to share the post on a Facebook group dedicated to makeup styling.

gather your friends“No man is an island” – and that applies to business projects, too! If you support

other people’s blogs, they’re more likely to support yours. Encourage downlines in the business group to blog; link to other people’s posts on your own blog or on social media. You can make a sidebar with links to other ABO blogs in your network and ask if they would do the same for you. Another way to increase visibility is by guest writing for other blogs: this is a great way to reach a new audience and draw curious newcomers to your own site.

What were your first impressions of the business centre? Yeliz & Tamer: Presenting the Amway business opportunity and our products in this magnificent Plaza atmosphere is much more effective and trustworthy. After the opening of the Plaza Ankara, we realised that until the prospects had visited the centre, they were not aware that Amway had such a variety of products. They were really excited when they learned that they can take orders for high-quality Amway products directly at the Amway Plaza Ankara.

How has the business centre strengthened your business relationships?Yeliz & Tamer: As soon as they enter the Plaza, our prospects feel comfortable and their trust in Amway increases. Amway Plaza Ankara has strengthened our relationships with our prospects since they can see, try and touch the products, after listening to the related product information. Because of this, they’ve started to feel a deeper trust towards ABOs. Prospects are searching for proof of product quality after listening to the Amway Sales & Marketing Plan, and when they see Amway Plaza Ankara, their motivation increases!

How have business centres strengthened your business relationships? Bellon: The effect is huge! Firstly, from an economic point of view, we can use it without cost. Before, we had to organise meetings in a hotel or else rent meeting rooms, which entailed costs. Secondly, the business centre brings us more credibility. Here, we can make what we are talking about with our clients real.

Yu: Having a physical presence is a great help for sponsoring. People get direct contact with products, and they get to see and feel Amway’s atmosphere interactively. So obviously the business centre is the best way to emphasise Amway’s awareness, give prospects

What were your first impressions of the business centre?Bellon: The staff are very nice and helpful. The human aspect is essential to me. And the showroom is also very handy for our clients. We can do presentations, showing the products to our clients on the spot.

Yu: I live in Paris and have been to the Lyon centre several times. I see many improvements in terms of space management. The shop is not big but it looks spacious; the products are nicely displayed and the shop staff are available for advice.

Amway Iberia, tells us about the impact on her

market.

How has the business centre made an impact on your market?Milone: The centre was opened with a clear goal: to keep growing in the Iberian market and confirm our position as the leading company in the sector. Certainly, it has been a key tool to significantly increase both product turnover and sponsoring. Located in a prestigious area in the middle of Madrid, with an amazing 21 metres of shop windows, Amway has managed to show to the general public our business model and the constant support that the company provides to its distributors and customers.

What can aBOs look forward to in the future?Milone: The current volume of activities in the centre is already very high, but when I think of the Madrid Business Centre at its full potential, I imagine a place where consumers can live a 360º degree Amway experience every day. Therefore, we will continue working hard in that direction, to ensure that our independent business owners and customers in Madrid have a reason to go to the centre every day, offering them something new at each visit, with numerous and different trainings, events and promotions.

An Athlete turns business proExercise has always been a part of Sergey Martynov’s life. In his 20s, he competed as a professional track and field athlete. Now, the former sprinter remains active in sports, citing healthy living as what helps him stay fit, improve his mood and make him stronger. But he admits that other obligations keep him busy, leaving too little time to exercise. “That’s where bodykey has been helpful,” says Sergey. “It’s helped me take advantage of the time that I do have to stay fit, because the comprehensive approach is specific to your individual needs. A bodyke y AmbAssAdor hAs chAnged her outlookGrowing up, Kiran Khutan tried to avoid exercise. As an adult, struggling with post-pregnancy weight and working long hours at an insurance company, she didn’t like being photographed and found that her corporate job did not mesh well with motherhood. That’s when she decided to pursue the Amway business full-time and take control of her body. “I’d always be the one to say, ‘No, no, you be in the picture!’” Khutan says on her past attitude. “But committing to bodykey helped shift my focus towards a healthier life – a life where I didn’t need to run from the camera.” Kiran now uses bodykey by NUTRILITE as

A shepherd finds life bAlAnceAndreas Werner isn’t new to Amway: the ABO from Torgau has been in the business for 24 years. Andreas is a shepherd by trade and has a close relationship with nature. He always wanted his own sheep farm, and through Amway, he was finally able to finance this aspiration while building a business.

Before bodykey by NUTRILITE became part of the Amway business, Andreas had tried to lead a healthy lifestyle. But he struggled to control his weight, finding himself tired and worn out. The internet also makes it easy to work from home: many entrepreneurs are nowadays inspired to work from beautiful spaces they create themselves.

Creating your own space

1Setting up a good working environment is essential for productivity. It’s not hard: all

it needs is a small area that you can make your own. Maybe that nook next to the kitchen or an alcove in the living room? Imagine the possibilities! Without the costly input of an architect or an interior designer, you can create a workspace that’s much more than just a sterile desk in a grey cubicle.

2 Let’s start with the walls. If white is the colour of choice for your home interiors, what better

way to make it your own than to add splashes

of colour? Maybe paint part of one wall in your favourite shade, or add accents of wallpaper. Perhaps a soft floral, or something more geometric.

3 Start your day feeling inspired! Hang an inspiration board on the wall, covered with

exciting images or motivating mottos on the walls; create groups of familiar or interesting objects on your desk – anything that will make you feel comfortable and creative. If you prefer a less cluttered space, go for the minimalist look, keeping objects to the bare essentials and no distractions to be found. Or go for industrial chic, using glass, raw materials and salvaged wood and iron. Store your papers and documents in old industrial document boxes or retro-style wood or metal filing cabinets.

When you’re working, particularly in an alcove without windows, good light is a must. Find a lamp that sheds the perfect concentration of natural, warm light. Choose one with an adjustable neck and possibly a dimmer switch, to enable you to direct the light flow.

Sitting for hours at a desk can cause back and shoulder pain. So when it comes to office chairs, it’s often worth paying more. Buy a chair that’s adjustable: it must support your lower back and shoulders. Your elbows should be at a 90° angle, and you shouldn’t need to crane your neck to see the screen. What did you do before you started your Amway business?Even while I was at university, I liked being my own boss. I’ve always been a businesswoman – for many years, I worked in the hospitality industry. What’s more, I used to be a single mum so I had to do everything myself. As you can imagine, it was difficult sometimes but I learnt to be strong. I started with Amway about five years ago, and my husband joined me in the business a bit later. Today, I can pass on my experience to the younger generation by teaching business at universities in Budapest and in Debrecen. I focus in particular on how to start and build a successful business.

What encouraged you to join Amway? I met a very interesting woman named Irenke Nemeth, a Founders Executive Diamond, here in Hungary at a conference. I managed to sit next to her – she was really amazing. After listening to her speak, I began to understand what the Amway business opportunity was about, and I decided to join the business. Irenke’s life and her way of thinking were inspiring. As I got to know her better, I began to think, “This is the kind of life I want for myself and my family.” That’s how I came to the decision to build my own Amway business.

What are the best aspects of working as an ABO? First of all, freedom. The word can mean a lot of things, of course. I mean it in the sense of having time to spend with your family, and having the power to help other people – for example, by teaching and motivating others. My husband and I are building our business together, and I’ve met a lot of interesting people whom I can help to gain the freedom they want. I enjoy that. This business gives you lots of opportunities. You can be creative; you can study and travel. When I talk to people about the Amway Sales and Marketing plan, I always mention my personal experience. And – very importantly – I’m always honest with them.

What challenges have you had to face as an ABO?I truly believe that anyone can build an Amway business.

It’s not a question of ability: if you have the right attitude, the business itself is not difficult. But I think a lot of people don’t understand what Amway is really about. As ABOs, we need to find open-minded people who want to change their lives, and then we need to show them what the business has to offer. It’s not that easy: I might speak to 20 or more people and, in the end, only one follows through and registers. We have to accept that that’s normal.

Do women entrepreneurs face different challenges than men do?I’m optimistic and like to talk to people but we’re all different. Ultimately, I think personality is more significant than gender. That being said, I love the ARTISTRY™ make-up range because I like to highlight my femininity. I think it’s important for women to be themselves.

Do your children plan to start their own Amway businesses? Yes, they often come along to listen to my presentation of the Amway Sales and

Marketing plan. I think it’s important that everyone in the family knows how the business works. As a parent, I want my children to think about more than just money when it comes to business – I want them to study and develop to their full potential. I owe a lot to my own mother, who has helped me a great deal. As a family, we’re very close and always stick together.

What goals do you have for the future? I want to consolidate my Emerald status and make sure that it’s really secure, and then I’d like to reach Diamond – I hope in about two years from now. I also want to invest a lot of time working with my business group. We can achieve so much more when we work as a team – that includes using Skype and Facebook to communicate and work together. But we also regularly have garden parties at my house, when we don’t discuss business at all but just have fun and get to know each other better.

Leszek Kręcielewski has been Amway’s Managing Director Europe since September 2015. In his prior role as Vice President Sales Europe & South Africa, he was responsible for 30 markets. His focus on ABO success, as well

as consistency and efficiency in the service of the ABO, will continue in this broadened role.

“People are searching for a business opportunity, they seek more freedom to own their own future, to be able to make their own decisions for themselves,” says Leszek. “And over 55 years of our company’s history confirms that following our values is the right way to go.”

Leszek, a Polish native, joined Amway in 1993 and brings a wealth of skills and experience to the business. He launched new markets in Europe, including Ukraine and Russia. Between 2005 and 2008, he served as the General Manager of Amway Russia, where his main focus was the post-launch stabilisation of the market. In the four years of his management that market grew to $550M.

In his current role as Managing Director, Leszek is dedicated to ensuring ABOs have the support to be successful, as well as developing new support initiatives for ABOs, to help them reach their goals faster. this year’s two-centre European LTS in Greece, in Athens and then at the Costa Navarino on the beautiful Ionian

coast of Greece, was a wonderful event. Highlights for participating ABOs included high-level business meetings, cultural tours, XS™-themed beach parties, “alternative sports” activities, entertainment and music, and intensive networking with other successful ABOs. A special highlight was the evening when Amway booked 11 restaurants on the beach promenade of the town of Gialova and turned it into a 1960s party night – all lit up by a breathtaking firework display.

The LTS seminar was all about us, the ABOs: we felt we were being recognised for doing an important job. Now that we have first-hand experience of the seminar, we can promote it to our downlines differently. The LTS is an extra recognition of your hard work, and it benefits you in a number of ways. We’ve visited some nice places, but I don’t think we’d ever have “qualified” for such a luxury holiday on our own budget.

We also tasted luxury at its finest in Costa Navarino. What we liked most was the opportunity to be among such great people. Amway employees took care of the tiniest details and organised highly professional trainings and conferences; their suggestions for how to spend our spare time were ingenious. We fondly remember our dinners with other leaders, enjoying professional service and live music. It’s worth doing everything you can to be able to spend time in such a wonderful place.

Seeing ABOs from different countries being rewarded has motivated us to keep growing our business.
