Parent Child Dedication will be held on May 15, 2016. Please notify the
church office at 402-723-4562 or sign up in the office if you would like to
dedicate your child. Vacation Bible School will be held June 6-10, 2016. This year's theme is
Egypt: Joseph's Journey from Prison to Palace. Registration forms are
available in the office and on the website. Please return completed forms and
$10 registration fee to the church office by May 8. Every year it takes over
60 volunteers to make this week possible. The VBS committee is calling for
volunteers. If you helped last year, expect a call from one of the committee
members in the coming weeks. If you've not been involved in VBS and want
to join us, contact any of the committee members (Elizabeth Goertzen, Lisa
Tessman, Joy Friesen, Kim Janzen, Erin Sams). We are excited to have you!
~Vacation Bible School Committee Des Moines Mennonite Church and Christ Community Church are
looking forward to hosting the 2016 Central Plains Mennonite Conference
at Grand View University, Des Moines, Iowa. The recently completed
construction of their new Conferencing Facilities will provide a one-stop-
annual-meeting-shop that includes meeting rooms, technology, dining and
lodging. On-line registration and payment by credit card are available as an
option for the first time! Your information packet will provide all the
necessary details and may be picked up outside the church office. Registration prices go up on May 1 and again on June 1. Timely registration
assists the planning committee in their efforts and helps the caterer to plan
meals. Bethesda is entitled to a total of 21 delegates. Contact the church
office if you have interest or need additional information. If you have a Williams hearing aid unit, we have a new replacement unit
for you! Please contact Brad Janzen and he will get you set up. The new
units are rechargeable and may be left at the church every Sunday to be
recharged. T – Coil neck loops are also available for those with compatible
hearing aids.

Pray for the Mennonite Church USA Executive Director, Ervin Stutzman,
as he visits Central Plains churches in the Twin Cities region accompanied
by David Boshart this weekend.
The Church Council prayerfully asks for someone in the congregation to
offer their abilities and time in performing an annual review of Bethesda’s
financial records. Contact Jay Dee Janzen at 402-723-5440 for an
explanation of the scope of this review, and the abilities that it would take to
facilitate this important function. When you are convinced that God is
encouraging you to serve Him and your church in this way, contact Steve
Michel, Church Council Chair, at 402-723-5734.
The Wednesday morning women's Bible study would like to say a huge
THANK YOU to the wonderful women who have volunteered their time to
babysit this spring while we met. We would not have this opportunity to
grow closer to God and to one another without the help of these ladies. Our
children all love them and we do too! Thanks so much to Darlene Janzen,
Carol Janzen, Arlyce Friesen, Marlene Ott, and Marion Friesen for the time
you shared and the love you gave to our kids! And thank you to Linda Yoder
and Donna Regier for filling in when needed. You are all very much
appreciated! ~Kara Janzen The Technology Management Committee would like to keep you aware
that funds are still needed to move forward with replacement of the sound
system in the sanctuary. You may designate your gift for sound and we will
begin the project when donations are in place. Please remember the Backpack Program for our local students to provide
children with nutritious and easy-to-prepare food items on weekends when
school meals are not available. You still have time to participate, since we
have approximately six weeks before school is out for the summer. There
are grocery items outside the church office that may be used.
You are invited to study the Gospel of John during the Sunday school
hour, through visual arts, including video and the art of Bible journaling.
Contact Jan Friesen if you are interested or have questions –
Volunteers are needed to help with the construction of the new
Everything Beautiful Thrift Store in Lame Deer, Montana. Construction
began earlier this month when folks from South Dakota came and poured
the basement. Starting last week, Lynn Miller of Ohio (former stewardship
minister for MMA) laid the first floor over the basement. Lynn is asking for
3-4 volunteers per week until May 13. He writes, “I need 2 to 4 people who
can carry wood and maybe swing a hammer. We will put up the girders,
floor joists, and subflooring, and cover it with a waterproof membrane.”
As for meals and lodging, Lynn says, “Breakfast and lunch are made by the
volunteers, but the evening meal is prepared for us by a great cook who will
be here for the duration. There are beds for four more people (and a private
room with a double bed for a couple) in a nice log house behind the White
River Cheyenne Mennonite Church. Bedding and towels are provided.”
Anyone interested in volunteering for this project, please contact the church
office or Jay Dee Janzen at 402-362-0512. You can read more about the thrift
store in the letter from Willis Busenitz posted on the church office window.

resources for you and your family. Please fill it out this week! Summer Blog: We will be continuing the blog throughout the summer with devotions
connected to the themes from the DEVOzine devotionals your youth will get
during Sunday school this summer. Here is an opportunity to help your
children develop a habit of reading devotions and to engage in faith
conversations. Parents are the #1 source of faith development and we
wanted to make it a little easier for you to help shape them. Visit the blog
each Monday for a new post! If you would like to receive text alerts about the new blog posts, contact
Cindy Friesen in the church office at 402-723-4562 or email her at

together we are “being built to become a dwelling in which God lives by his
Spirit” (Ephesians 2:20-22). Our first gathering will be June 26 at 6:00
p.m. at Grant and Jami Schmidt’s farm. More information will be coming
about the July and August dates and locations. These events are sponsored

The Garden began in 2015 as an
extension of the Backpack Program.
As such, it aims to offer 1) access to
food throughout the summer months
and 2) access to fresh produce.
Garden produce is available to
families qualifying for the Backpack
Program though the school. During
the 2015-2016 school year, 16
families were eligible to receive backpacks. Although a family may be
eligible, not all families elect to receive backpacks for various reasons,
including negative stigmas. During the 2015 summer, fresh produce was
hand delivered to six families in order to decrease barriers to meeting needs.
The demographics of those families were diverse in faith backgrounds,
church involvement, family size, and work background. The 2016 garden (approximately a 1,190 square foot plot located behind
Custom Wood Products) is set to provide an assortment of produce
including lettuce, radishes, carrots, cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes,
watermelon, beans, potatoes and more, for up to eight families from June
through August. To accomplish this, two (2) groups of volunteers will be
needed throughout the summer. Group 1: The Garden Workers, will meet Wednesday mornings in the
garden to weed, harvest, clean, pack and transport produce to the Bethesda
kitchen for cooling. Toward the beginning and mid-summer, this group may
also be in on a few plantings, as well as end-of-season clean up. This group
is for those who enjoy being outside and getting their hands dirty. Group 2: The Produce Deliverers will deliver baskets of produce to
families, preferably on Wednesdays between noon and 7:00 p.m. Each
volunteer will deliver to the same household(s) each week, and are
encouraged to build relationships with these families. This group is for
people who enjoy people. Many of the families enjoy having
conversations, sometimes very lengthy ones. For questions, please contact
Erin Sams or a member of the Board of Service and Outreach.
