Have you ever considered a USA vacation but went dizzy at the idea of trying to work out where exactly to go? It’s a big, vast country, perfect for a travel holiday, full of incredible cities and unbelievable natural beauty and wide-ranging landscape, a vast array of stunning beaches and mountains, and so many famous monuments and landmarks that it’s practically impossible to decide where exactly to rent a vacation rental home. Well, here are a couple of tips.

Washington DC, the capital and one of the most famous cities in the world, may revolve around the government and its machinations and invoke images of Presidents but take a vacation there and you’ll find it’s not a stuffy political city but rather one filled with monuments, museums, fine restaurants, interesting and varied neighborhoods, as well as a thriving music scene that has carried on since the days of Duke Ellington. And it’s fast becoming a popular USA vacation destination.

Once there you can take your pick of what to do with your vacation during the day; you should go and visit the Washington Monument and the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials; you should also go spend time at the National Mall’s free (yes free!) Smithsonian Museums, which include the National Zoo, the Natural History Museum and the astonishing Sculpture Gardens which is littered with mind-blowing art pieces, and has an ice-skating rink in the winter; or, you could trawl through one of the city’s many markets where you can get a feel for the local art and culinary scene - a good place to start would be the Eastern Market and the markets in the DuPont Circle and Clarendon-Courthouse areas.

And there’s more. The amount of famous buildings and monuments that exist is mind-boggling, from the Ford Theater where Lincoln was shot and the National Archives building where America’s secrets are laid bare, to the magnificent US capitol Building, and the Library of Congress. Oh, and the White House, probably the most famous private residence in the world.

Then, after quickly recharging in your vacation holiday home, you go to dinner in the Penn Quarter, then hit the town and make a night of it in the culturally diverse neighborhood of Adams Morgan, where a host of trendy bars and nightclubs are to be found, as well as being the epicenter of Washington’s Hispanic community. You can also catch a live performance in any one of the performing arts at the Kennedy Center, or you could go and sample the city’s jazz roots in the U Street Corridor by picking any venue out of the Howard Theater, the Bohemian Caverns, the DC9, U Street Music Hall, the 9.30 Club, or the Velvet Lounge.

Then go home, rest, work, save up for another holiday, and go back to do it all again.
