Best Teaching Practices for Engaged Student Learning

Teaching Learning Centre (TLC) of BITS Pilani is organizing an international conference on Best Teaching Practices for

Engaged Student Learning. The new global knowledge economy which is driven by information and communication, has

significantly changed the way universities and higher educational institutions function. This is compounded by the

expectations of contemporary students who are learning focused, achievement driven and rely extensively on technology

for their support. In this changing milieu, educational institutes will have to identify innovative ways to create value for their

students and remain relevant. The aim of this conference is to bring together academicians, administrators, researchers,

technologists and industry personnel to share valuable insights and engage in thought provoking discussions on

collaborative learning that would enhance the students’ engagement in learning, thereby nurturing all-round students’

growth. The conference would focus on techniques, methods and pedagogies that would help educational institutions

effectively use their resources and enhance the overall learning experience for students and pave the way for mutual long-

standing collaborations.

Topics to be discussed and deliberated include, but are not limited to:

● Evidence-based pedagogies that improve student learning

● Enhancing classroom experience for better student learning

● Human factor in personalized learning

● Creating inclusive classrooms

● Technology-infused, yet person-driven learning

● Enhancing the teacher-student relationship to foster a better learning environment

● Teaching philosophies for better student engagement

● Outcome-based learning

Posters on the above and related themes are invited from academicians, researchers and policy makers.

About BITS Pilani

Birla Institute of Technology & Science, Pilani (BITS Pilani)

has been consistently ranked high, by both governmental

and private ranking agencies for its innovative processes

and capabilities that have enabled it to impart quality

education and emerge as the best private science and

engineering institute in India. As per various reports by

business magazines, the student acceptance rate to BITS

Pilani is one of the most stringent in the world. BITS Pilani

continuously strives to cater to the expectations of its brilliant

student cohort and has always adopted pedagogical

interventions relevant to the time. Pioneering teaching

learning experiences like “Intensive Teaching Workshop” for the newly joined faculty, continuous faculty development

programs, coupled with cutting edge research, give BITS Pilani its name. In recognition of the high standard that BITS

Pilani strives to uphold, University Grant Commission, in 2018, has declared it as an “Institute of Eminence” (IOE).

Teaching Learning Centre

Keeping in mind the higher ideals that BITS Pilani strive to uphold in terms of creating excellence in teaching, a Teaching

Learning Centre is established across the University, in all the four campuses. The Teaching-Learning Centre promotes

teaching learning experience, encourages innovation in teaching-learning methodologies and creates a platform for

learning from the best practitioners and from each other. It also does foundational research related to teaching-learning

processes and actively seeks strategies/interventions in specific target contexts. The details of the Teaching Learning

Centre can be obtained from https://www.bits-pilani.ac.in/tlc/home.html.
