    Since inception in 2001, Sun International Zambiahas takenits role asa stakeholder inthe communityvery seriously.

    We have embarked on a number of developmentalprojects and partnerships with communities tocreate and enhance sustainable livelihood in theregion.

    Our Corporate Social Investment Programmefocuses on the underprivileged in society, withspeci fi c focus on education, job and weal thcreation, health and communi ty welfare and sanitation.

    The Resort is involved in a Hydroponics andOrganic-farming scheme. Initiated in August 2003,the Hydroponics project provides both fresher,morewholesome, produce for our guests. In a society ofgenetic engineering, we find that our discerningguest s cer ta in ly app reci ate t hi s pu ri sm . Furthermore, the project is run by the blind andhandicapped persons from Linda MultipurposeCentre and Mapenzi community, equipping themwith farming and management skills, with SunInternational Zambia as their customer. Theseprojects have greatly empowered a lot of vulnerablemembersof thecommunity economically.

    The resort also partners with Government and thelocal author it ies in developmental projects to benefit a larger sector of the Southern Province. In

    times of crisis, such as the recent floods thatdevastated Kazungula, Sun International Zambiaand many partner companies were at hand tosupplement Government efforts in providing thedisplacedfamilieswithfood andbedding.

    Sun International Zambiarecognizes that it has a responsibility totake care ofthe surrounding community tomake sure that benefit f inally from its operations. More than 90% of the staff come from the surroundingcommunitytherebyempowering theme economically. In addition to that,the resort also provided an enablingenvironment forthe details forthe locals to do business.

    SIZ has formed partnership in community in the community by sharing projects that are sustaining thereeconomically empoweringthe community. A totalof US $40,792 was spent on thecommunity projects duringthe period year July 2008 July 2009.

    The Hydroponics and Organic Farming Scheme is apartnership between Sun International Zambia and

    Agribusiness in Sustainable Natural African PlantProducts (ASNAPP), an NGO associated with theDepartment of Agronomyat Stellenbosch University.

    In Zambia, the beneficiaries are the b lind and handicapped people from the Linda multipurposeactivity centre andMapenzi who arebeing trained infarmingand management skills.

    The project is in three locations:The hydroponics at the ResortThe Organic farming in Linda and Mapenzi

    The projects have also supplied with:Electrici ty generators for the expansion of

    agricultural projectsWater pumps for extension of agriculturalschemePurchase and installat ion of drip i rrigation

    system forLinda Agricultural Scheme

    The resort project has started supplying both theRoyal L ivi ngs tone and Z ambexi S un w it hvegetables.

    In November 2008, a further the Warm Farm projectwas launched at the cost of US $7,200 with HIVpositive people as beneficiaries of this.

    In 2005, Sun International Zambia initiated an aqua culture fish farming fish project at Katombora JuvenileReformatory Centre. This was in an effort to alleviate the persistent problem of protein deficiency in the area.The project is also aimed at equipping the juveniles with fish farming skills so that they can supply the resortandsurround areaswith fish,creating a sustainablebusiness.

    The project consists of fifteen fish ponds stocked with Tilapia (known locally as the Zambezi Bream). US$1,500 was spentto restockingthe fishpondsin June 2009.Sun International Zambia also acquired a brand new booster waterpump and rehabilitated the old water

    pumpfor thecentre.SunInternationalZambia continuesto monitor these projectsto ensure thatthey aresustained.

    The Corporate Social Initiative (CSI) of Sun International Zambia introduced the Farmer's Market Project toprovidethe localfarmerswitha readymarketandempowerthemto producemorecrops for theirfamiliesandlocal market in order to raise their living standards. Sun International not only provides them with a readymarket, the company provides the farmers with the necessary farming inputs and free consultation onsustainablefarming methods.

    Farmers bring their produce every Monday to Sun International Zambia Warehouse where they sell theirproduceat market rated prices.

    Sun International Zambia has also created a deliberate policy to ensure that the farmers are guaranteedcontinuoussupportin issues related to farmingby creatingan office thatwill lookinto theplight of farmers.

    Sun International Zambia spentabout US$24, 209in procuring local farmer'sproduceduring the periodJuly2008 June 2009.

    A total of US $8,570 was spent in different projects ranging from the labour cost for the expansion of theagricultural project, submersible pump for the extension of the agricultural scheme, purchase andinstallation ofthe drip irrigationsystem for one hectare at Linda and 20 sewing machines donated to fourwomen's groups and those living with HIV/AIDS.

    US $7,785 was spent on the teacher's houses project at Katombora, purchase of uniforms and other educational materials for the orphans at Lubasi Orphanage. Many other schools were covered asindicated in theCSI Report.

    Most primary and secondary schools in Livingstone are in dire need of rehabilitation. In an effort to bringaboutpositive change, Sun International Zambia has adopted schools soas tolift up the standards. Sincethe adoption of Zambezi Basic School, several guests who visit the resort have partnered with SunInternational Zambia.

    A total of US $6,536 was spent during the period July 2008 June 2009 on the purchase of food stuffs.

    A total of US $19,347was spent on the provision of food stuffs for the terminally ill at St. Joseph's Hospice, andthe children at Ebenezer, Lubasi, Sinkobo, Kapatamoyo, Global Samaritan and Lushomo Orphanages. Thisalso included supplying of refreshments during the Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT) Day commemoration,
