Installation of pond liner in big garden pond restoration project

Original natural garden pondThis natural garden pond was no longer holding water due to ground seepage. The existing shape of the pond covered an area of 1,000m2.

Working with the original pond design, RDL worked with a team of landscapers to remove all stones, rocks and the overgrown aquatic vegetation before installing the underlay and pond liner.

Installing the protective underlay to the pondThe geotextile protective underlay was installed to offer protection to the pond liner from possible damage by sharp stones in the ground which may have gone undetected when clearing out the pond.

EPDM rubber pond linerEPDM was the chosen membrane to line due to its superior flexibility and strength - ideal properties for this size project.

Pond liner fabricationThe pond restoration project included a section which runs under a single track road bridge.

Two large liners were joined together with a narrower strip running under the single track bridge.

Onsite pond liner fabricationTwo sheets of EPDM 1mm pond liner installed to the two ponds on either side of the bridge were fabricated together by installing a liner under the bridge.

Hot bonding pond liners Pond liner sheets being fabricated or hot bonded together onsite.

The role of an anchor trenchThe underlay and pond liner was installed and secured in position by running them up into an anchor trench which was dug around the ponds perimeter.

Pond liner installationHere we are pulling the 1mm EPDM pond liner into place across the 1000m2 area of the pond.

The lining of this big pond project was completed within two weeks after the ground works had been completed.

Completed pond projectThe end result was a stunning garden feature that retained both the water level and quality of water.
