SAFE JOURNEY INSTALLATION
MAINTENANCE AND REPLACEMENT
• All securement systems should be regularly inspected.
• According to NHTSA you may reuse safety seats after a minor crash. NHTSA
defines a minor crash as one in which no visual damage was done to the seat,
the vehicle was able to drive away, the door nearest the seat was undamaged,
there were no occupant injuries and any air bags on board did not deploy.*
• BESI, Inc. recommends replacement of securement systems after 6 years in
service.
EVACUATION PRODUCTS
• Transporting Pre-K or special needs
students require specialized evacuation
plans.
• There should be at least one belt cutter
accessible to each adult on the bus.
• Use of an evacuation device such as the
Evacuation Transporter or the Evac-Aide,
as a slide, drag, or carrier.
• A fire blanket can be used to smother
small fires or used to cover passengers if
