Larimer County, where Berthoud is located, is expected to show brisk growth between 2015 and 2025. The largest amount ofthis growth is forecast for those between 70 to 74 years of age. Working age adults in all age groups, except for 55 to 59, arealso projected to see large increases. In-migration to the county will be driven by the need for replacement workers for olderadults aging out of the county’s current labor force and also to meet the demand for jobs driven by the increasing population.Due to the forecast growth in working age adults, there is also growth in the number of children. This growth will not negate theneed to evaluate aging services, but may alleviate some of the downward pressure aging can put on tax revenues.

Population and Economic ForecastRates of growth for population and jobs can differ based on changes in the labor market and also macroeconomic conditions. Thedemographics of the available labor force (participation rates, age, unemployment, multiple jobs, and commuting trends) impact thelabor market. Macroeconomic influencers include the conditions of the business cycle as well as state and national economic growthrates.

Population growth is expected tooutpace job growth in Larimer. An agingbaby-boomer population reachingretirement age is a contributing factor. The population will grow as newresidents take some of the jobs vacatedby people leaving the workforce.

The number of residents in thelaborforce is growing at a slower ratethan the expected number of new jobs.Part of this can be mitigated by in-migrating commuters. Additionally, some workers work more than one job.The gap is expected to narrow overtime.

A growing population requiresadditional housing and communityservices. An aging population mayrequire different types of housing orservices than working families or youngworkers may need.
