At Berkshire Hathaway Energy, we believe in supporting the communities we serve. We invest in projects and initiatives that uplift our communities and support the generosity of our employees, who make a positive impact by sharing their time, talents and resources to organizations they care about.

In 2017, Berkshire Hathaway Energy and its employees donated $20.8 million and 89,018 volunteer hours to help enrich communities across the globe. We have four pillars of giving – community enhancement/environment, arts and culture, education/STEM, and safety and wellness – that we build on to enhance the lives of our customers and employees.

CalEnergy Philippines employees collaborated with Fostering Education and Environment for Development Inc., a local nonprofi t, non-governmental organization, to plant 500 trees across 3,000 square meters.

Community Enhancement/Environment We take pride in helping develop, revitalize and expand projects that enhance the livability of our communities. From painting houses to planting trees, every project can make a diff erence.

Pacifi Corp supported the 2017 Merwin Special Kids’ Day Fishing Derby. More than 150 kids and adults with disabilities, many who are confi ned to wheelchairs, participated in the event at Merwin Fish Hatchery on Pacifi Corp’s Lewis River Hydroelectric Project. Rods, reels, tackle boxes and T-shirts were provided for participants to use and take home, along with the fi sh they caught.

BHE Pipeline Group’s Northern Natural Gas employees volunteered in a Paint-a-Thon that aids low-income, disabled or elderly homeowners. Employees spent two weekends clearing brush and scraping, priming and painting a home for a family in need. Northern Natural Gas has participated in the program for 28 years.

MidAmerican Energy collaborated with the Des Moines Arts Festival to create an interactive art experience that illustrated sustainability eff orts and utilized an electric boom. The result was an 8-foot by 30-foot doodle art canvas that 230,000 festival attendees could view and contribute to if desired. As attendees added to the canvas, the boom truck lifted up the vinyl creating a unique visual experience.

NV Energy provided fi nancial support to the Positively Arts Foundation through its Power of Good Giveaway. The Positively Arts Foundation is a southern Nevada nonprofi t that uses the arts to empower, inspire and heal students no matter their fi nancial needs or accessibility to the arts.

Arts & Culture

Supporting organizations and events that enrich arts off erings and build cultural strength is key to thriving communities. We support eff orts that expand and celebrate cultural heritage and the arts.

Education/STEM We are always investing in tomorrow – from classroom learning to hands-on technical experiences, education is the foundation to success. We support projects that enhance the classroom and educational experience for students in the communities where we serve.

AltaLink helps students across Alberta, Canada, seeking higher education through its AltaLink Centennial, Indigenous, Employee and Masters Scholarships. These scholarships support more than 15 students annually in their eff orts to obtain a bachelor’s or master’s degree.

BHE Renewables fi nancially supported the development of an imagination playground for an elementary school. The imagination playground is made of giant building blocks that children and adults can build with and climb on, helping develop motor skills. The playground encourages learning, social development, movement and fun!

Safety & WellnessStaying safe is a top priority for our employees, and we want that for our customers, too. We support organizations and projects that promote healthy and safe communities.

BHE U.S. Transmission helped support Hurricane Harvey relief eff orts through donations to the American Red Cross that provided food to those who lost everything during the natural disaster.

Northern Powergrid distributed vital safety messages about the dangers of live electricity to 31,000 youth across its operating areas in the North of England through free programs, engaging workshops and events. The company uses its school safety program to deliver interactive, hands-on presentations about the risks of electricity networks in a controlled setting.
