There's a stigma about railroad tracks. Hoboes, hitching a ride,

squashing pennies, not eating your pudding before your meat. I

recently learned that there is not a vast forest south of these tracks,

but rather a "whole nuther" section of Benton called the Ralph Bunche

Community. A friend of mine from work even lives there. Now I'll

have to explore and take some pictures there too.

Where'd that come from?

I got lost one day and found a ballpark on the edge of town, south of

the airfield. I guess I live in a newer part of Benton, and the

indigenous peoples already knew about it - like much of what I'll be

posting on this site.

This bridge was here and now it's gone. What they did with it I don't

know. What they're doing there now probably has something to do

with people clamoring to move out of Little Rock and into the

smaller, tamer surrounding cities. But where'd the bridge go? Why

was it there anyway, since it was disconnected from anything that

needed to be crossed? Anyhow, it's not even in Benton, but it's

dangerously close - on Boone Road, east of Alcoa/west of Reynolds.

This one's on Highway 5 closer to Topps Shoes (or however many "p's"

there are in it). It's really haunted housey. The wood is worn and

faded, the windows are crooked and there are cinder blocks under the

porch. There are a couple of outbuildings too, and there's always an

80s model blue (Ford I think) truck parked outside. It reminds me of

an early Happy Days episode where Richie and the guys decided to

have a Halloween party in an old deserted house. Ooouuoough!

Jim said he went in this place and somebody was talking and talking.

They had a weird nasally voice, he told me. Eventually he figured out

it was a parrot in the back. East Street.

That's eMazing!!

It must have been a little too eMazing, since it went out of business

about a month after it started. I do wonder what kind of response

they had. Benton's just not that savvy yet. If they were, they'd do

their own E-baying.

Alcoa and Highway 5. I don't know who used to live here, or who owns

it now, but I you look at a place like this and wonder how it got that

way. Oh well, it'll be some kind of retail before you know it, since it's

sitting on a good parcel of land at a busy intersection. Just no more

banks - please, no more banks. Or storage units! Enough!

What exactly do I need to be aware of here, s ince the church gets the

same warning sign on level with the fire department? Let's try to

make a comparison, shall we? Now the fire dept. has big trucks

rushing out to an emergency. The church has... I dunno, people

rushing in their cars to Brown's Country Buffet?
