Exercise 01: Create New Spec

In this exercise, we will open the OpenPlant Project Administrator and create a new Spec using Specification Generator.

1. Select the Start menu and navigate to and click OpenPlant Project Administrator CONNECT Edition.

2. In the navigation tree click OpenPlant Modeler to allow Tools from the tools ribbon to turn on.

3. Select Specification Generator.

Specs are created from the catalogs, the first step in any new spec is to add the base catalog.

4. Click New Spec.

Exercise 02: Edit Spec Table

In this exercise we will edit the spec table by adding rows and filtering conditions.

1. Click Add New Section then select PIPE from the drop-down menu as shown below.

3. Once PIPE is loaded we now need to edit the row by selecting Add New Row.

4. After Adding a New Row, we will begin by selecting options for PIPE that will be relevant to the project.

5. Options are in drop-down format in each sup-section.

a. In the first row select Class Name is PIPE, Min Size is 1/2, Max Size is 2, Schedule is 80, and End Condition 1 as PL.

b. In the second row select Class Name is PIPE, Min Size is 3, Max Size is 10, Schedule is 40, and End Condition 1 as BW.

c. In the third Row select Class Name is PIPE, Min Size is 12, Max Size is 20, Schedule is STD, and End Condition 1 as BW.

From the Excel Spread Sheet we do not need 3+1/2 pipe, so lets filter the list.

9. Close the preview.

Exercise 03: Add and Edit Spec Header

In this exercise we will add and edit the Spec Header.

1. In the Edit menu select Add Spec Header as shown below.

In this exercise we will create a custom OpenPlant catalog from our Admin_Training spec using OpenPlant Project Administrator.

1. From the main ribbon select Tools.

2. Click Specification Generator.

3. From OpenPlant Spec Generator select File then Catalog Editor.

17. Select one option for 3” pipe from the drop-down list, and delete all the rest of the records.

18. Press and hold the Ctrl key down then right-click in the left most corner to Delete Redord(s).

19. Customize your pipe tee by selecting the following drop-down elements.

a. change CTR_END_M to 6.

b. change SHORT_DESC to 6 in SS Equal Pipe Tee.

20. Select Catalog and then click Repair SysIDs.

30. Click Add a Row from Available fields select EC_CLASS_NAME and SHORT_DESC to that row.

31. Add a second row and in selected fields set the parameters as shown below.

Note: This will allow for selection choices in OpenPlant Modeler.

33. Launch OpenPlant Modeler.

34. Create a new file with the Name Test Catalog.

35. Once open, set Standard Preferences for Piping Component as shown below.

a. Under Specification select Admin_Training.

b. Under Nominal Diameter select 3.

36. From Piping Galleries > Tees > Place Tee.
