Benson KEY CLUB OF DIVISION 62
JANUARY
RECAP
INSIDE: SALVATION ARMY (1/9), JAN DCM: LTG RALLY/ELECTIONS, OR FOOD BANK,
SALVATION ARMY (1/27), RUNNING FOR OFFICE
SALVATION
ARMY (1/9) Our first event of the month was packing
food with Salvation Army on January 9th.
There, we filled boxes full of food, including
milk, canned goods, cereal, bread, and a
little bit of everything from the five food
groups. The worth of these boxes contains
$35-40 of food and will be provided to 100
families. That means our Key Clubbers filled
100 boxes, totaling approximately $3,500-
4,000 in food. With a little teamwork and
Tetris skills, Benson Key Club worked hard to
help the Salvation Army feed families in
need.
ELECTIONS/RALLY JANUARY DCM: LTG
Not long after, we attended our
division’s Lieutenant Governor Rally/
Election that counted as the January
DCM as well. Thank you to all who
came out and supported our two
candidates, Angel Le and Tran Hoang,
both of Benson High School! Both
candidates gave us a fantastic
speech, showing us both of their own
personalities and what they had to
offer as Division 62’s next LTG. In the
end, Tran Hoang emerged victorious.
Congratulations Tran, we look forward
to what you have to offer for 2014-15!

ELECTIONS/RALLY JANUARY DCM: LTG
OREGON
FOODBANK With another aim to further help in
the food department, Benson Key
Club went to the Oregon Food Bank
and packed grains and beans into
boxes. The grains and beans were to
be delivered to Oregon Food Bank’s
partner agencies (one of them is
Salvation Army!), then through their
partner agencies, delivers it to
clients. Through this, we’ve assisted in
feeding 1 in 5 starving households of
Oregon!
SALVATION
ARMY (1/27) We finished off with another
Salvation Army event on the 27th.
There, we finalized the food boxes
by adding extra goodies. The
goodies included Twinkies, kettle
chips, chocolate wafers, and many
other desserts for the hungry
families. Benson Key Clubbers take
pleasure in helping the hungry
families, packing one box at a
time.

FOR OFFICE “
“
As President, you are the chief executive officer of your club and you are the role model to other key
clubbers. You role is vital to the success of a Key
Club. As President you have to be able delegate tasks,
communicate with club advisers, school administra-
tion, your Kiwanis Club, division and most im-
portantly your Key Clubbers. Also be able to be orga-
nized and create new events. To want to help our
club grow in membership and also in other aspects.
“ As Vice-President, you are to assist the President and other officers with their duties. It is your responsibility to take initiative and lead
your club in the absence of the President. Whether it is locations and
times of events, number of total members, or something simple like
the meeting date; you must know your club inside AND out to suc-
cessfully lead your club along with your other officers. Communica-
tion is KEY! Communicate with your officers, members, and Kiwanis
advisors. Check up on your officers, send reminders to your members
in a timely manner, and build a strong relationship with your Kiwanis
advisor by updating them on the progress of your club. A small and
simple email will go a long way. Although the job can be stressful at
times, it is very rewarding. You have a team that you can work with,
bounce ideas off of, and strategize to improve your club. You are what
you envision your club to be. Take responsibility, take initiative, and
take pride in what you do.
“
“
The office of club treasurer is important because the treasurer
is in control of the club’s money,
its collection, and disbursement.
The treasurer is responsible for
keeping accurate books that will
enable him/her to give a full fi-
nancial report whenever requested. The treasurer should
do his/her best to see that every-
thing is done meticulously so
that there are no doubts about
his/her integrity.

“ “ Despite being an unnoticed position, you are what you
make it. As editor, you need to act as a reporter! When writing your recap, remember the who's, what's, when's, where's, and why's. Take
lots of photos at events, especially active shots where everyone is hav-
ing fun and doing something. At bare minimum, all you have to do
is take photos and submit a monthly recap to keysis.wordpress.org.
What I take upon myself are the power points, newsletters, and help-
ing run the meetings. I don’t suggest this position if you don’t know
how to take photos or writing information type of things.
“ “ A secretary of an executive board is responsible for the club's clerical records. Their responsibilities include recording meeting information, member participation, overall club
activities, and using those records in order to relay them in a monthly report. Their most important quality is the ability to
stay organized as secretaries are depended on to diligently keep track of the events occurring throughout their term in
the club.
