Referencing childhood memories of

seemingly boundless landscapes, rows

created singularly of plants buzzing by

the car’s window in a monotonous and

unrelenting cadence. Object : Group :

Field explores the relationship between

these individual objects and their entirety.

The installation constructs an organic yet

structured form of the original memory

while abstracting how the mind categorizes

memories and experiences to form a

persons persona.

Golden Hour is a site specifi c light installation encircling South Lake Union Park’s boat pond. Golden Hour uses a series of warm monochromatic lamps to re-imagine how existing public architecture can serve as an armature for pedestrian gathering and individual refl ection through the introduction of light.

Shoe Shine, an event hosted by NIKE during the 2012 SIA Festival, showcased 14 pairs of artist-modifi ed NIKE Zoom Force One snowboarding boots, each embodying a unique futuristic theme. The exhibit sought to form a visual as well as spatial relationship with the pieces while enhancing the artwork. The exhibit accomplished this by forming three unique areas designed to inform, embrace and romance the viewer. A projected animation provided event title and sponsor information, laser diodes in series formed a permeable tunnel encapsulating a 36ft long custom light table and pendent lights created intimate lighting for the artist’s work to be observed.

Tacoma Array is a site specifi c installation that

explores the idea of implied space with the use

of light as a medium. Through a constant density

of contrasting light reactive string, Tacoma Array

slices through a small storefront space with two

embracing curves, creating a cave-like space

within. Situated on the corner of a busy commuter

intersection, the installation fl oods its surrounding

environment with soft green and violet light.

While viewing the piece up close, the two planes

elegantly engage the viewer in the implied space.

The building provides a 3-dimensional

pedestrian environment and passively marks a

relationship with the existing Burnside historic

fabric, reinforcing a district, and helping to

defi ne an ordered public way.

This interactive installation seeks to

dynamically distort the urban environment

created by the building façade through the

projection of live video captures that are

augmented by time and spatial representation.

The intent is to allow the building armature

to produce a feedback relationship with

pedestrians, resulting in a 4-dimensional

sidewalk.

NIKE Football Kick-Off (FKO) was a one

day event for NIKE to launch their new

line of football gear for sponsors and the

public to see for the fi rst time. The event

took place in the Basketball City building

in lower Manhattan on the East River. The

design featured stadium seating with a partial

football fi eld, 100’ LED mechanized screen, a

full size retail store, and a series of designed

rooms to present and showcase their new

products.

As part of a full renovation of the Convention Plaza building in Portland, OR, the main architectural strategy for the project was the design and implementation of new common areas. A total of four common areas, similar in size and shape, were developed to each have a different cosmetic and functionality while maintaining a common conceptual appeal. The Tubes, made from bands of wood, are sliced and peeled from the wall to either provide light to adjacent offi ces making the common area act like a horizontal light well or being backlit to become a light feature within the tubes.

The Morrison project is a mixed use building

on the corner of Morrison and Grand in

Portland, OR. The building design consists

of street level retail, underground parking

and four levels of stacked residential. Similar

in appeal to a game of Jenga, the building

is stacked loosely to create four light wells

for landscaping in addition to providing

private and common space in between the

residential bars on each level. The fl exible

fl oor plan of each bar makes it easy to create

one large space or two smaller units to make

the building occupancy denser while still

feeling spacious, unlike traditional mid-rise

residential buildings.

Rontoms Canopy is a 1500 SF canopy

designed for Rontoms Bar on the corner of

Burnside and 6th in Portland, OR. The all

wood construction of the canopy is made

up of two uniquely bent girders connected

with a ridge beam. The result of the two

different bends creates a gentle array of the

rafters that shields the patrons from the rainy

Northwest winters or sunny summers while

embracing with a welcoming homely feel.
