Fat necrosis Firm, tender, indurated, ill-defined mass Formed by damaged and disintegrating

    fatty tissues.

Typically occurs in obese women withvery large breasts. Often develops in response to a bruise

or blow to the breast, even though the

    Conclusions

women with fibrocystic breastdisease or other benign breast

conditions are more likely todevelop breast cancer later

    only

if a breast biopsy shows "atypia"or abnormal breast cells.

    Conclusions

Risk factors for breast cancer after thediagnosisof benign breast disease

include the histologic classificationof a benign breast lesion and afamily history of breast cancer.

However, all breasts lumps must be

investigated to rule out breast cancerand/or to begin immediate treatment ifbreast cancer is diagnosed.
