A special thank you goes to Bonnie Stratton for playing the piano and Kim Swanson for playing guitar and singing the Memorial Songs for our members. I don’t want to forget to send special thanks to Bob Windjue, Damon Ausmann and Kurt Werner for all their work during the annual Oyster Feed, Dec. 13. Lodge 1187’s Scholarship Committee, Dr. Ron Reed chairman, with Rex Goon, Paul Christensen and your ER, have finished scoring the appli- cations. Rex has finished inputting the scores for Grand Lodge. There were 37 applications for our Elks Scholarships this year. We received 25 last year. Thank you to all the students who applied. Golf milestones keep happening. On Nov. 27, Tom Striegel shot his first hole-in-one on Number 6. I played that day and what a wind we had – 40 to 50 mph! I hear that Tom hit his ball past the hole, then drew it back and yes, into the hole. This took place with a lot of golf skill, flair and much fanfare from his playing partners. I also hear that group has placed him in Legendary Status Category. Nice shot Tom and congratulations. Here’s yet another milestone for Vincent Van Liere. Not only will 9-year-old Vincent be playing in the World Championships at Pinehurst, N.C., this coming August, he has received an invitation to play in the European Junior Golf Championship May 29-31, in Scotland. Keep your focus Vincent and do your best. Congratulations. William ‘Skeet’ Hamiel, Exalted Ruler ER ‘Skeet’ Hamiel Howard Rice, super volunteer and long- time chairman of the Golf Committee was honored as December Elk of the Month. It is not too early to start planning for the annual Wildlife Feed - Fish Fry March 14! So, check the freezer and keep that date in mind as you head out to hunt and fish! There will be a signup sheet in the Lodge in February. Members, as always, will be asked to bring a favorite dish to share with everyone. Mak said the kitchen will not be available for cooking except for the fish fry. Open to all members, family and the public There will be a jar for donations for a local charity, to be decided.
