YSLPP is a multi-year collaborative project, established in 1993 with Utica College (UC) and the Utica City School District (UCSD). This program is designed to motivate diverse and talented students to stay in school, earn a New York State Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation, and pursue post-secondary education. Young Scholars students participate in a comprehensive program providing academic, social and cultural enrichment. Each year, Young Scholars serves more than 350 students from grades 7 through 12. UCSD teachers nominate students in sixth grade. Those selected include students identified as possessing the potential for success in secondary and post-secondary school, but who may not achieve their full potential due to social and economic risk factors. As the 2017 Mayor’s Gala recipient, YSLPP envisions offering more career enrichment opportunities during the school year and additional internships to YSLPP students during the months of July and August 2017. Using our robust contacts in the City, we will place as many students as the donations will support in different businesses and agencies around the City. Our students will be placed in areas that appeal to their interests and aptitudes. We believe the benefits of this approach will be numerous. Local businesses can offer an excellent co- curricular experience to students at no financial cost while reaping the public relations benefits and knowing that they played a substantial role in the development of our youth. The educational and professional experiences gained by our students will contribute to their deep story of receiving an excellent education in our City where they benefit from the “City of Utica Advantage.” The advantage gained by living in a community that works together to nurture their intellectual, professional and personal growth. MISSION: Through educational and social skills development, the Young Scholars Liberty Partnerships Program enriches the community by motivating students to achieve college and career readiness for life-long success.

Those selected include students identifi ed as possessing the potential for success in secondary and post-secondary school, but who may not achieve their full potential due to social and economic risk factors.

As the 2017 Mayor’s Gala recipient, YSLPP envisions off ering more career enrichment opportunities during the school year and additional internships to YSLPP students during the months of July and August 2017. Using our robust contacts in the City, we will place as many students as the donations will support in diff erent businesses and agencies around the City. Our students will be placed in areas that appeal to their interests and aptitudes.

We believe the benefi ts of this approach will be numerous. Local businesses can off er an excellent co-curricular experience to students at no fi nancial cost while reaping the public relations benefi ts and knowing that they played a substantial role in the development of our youth. The educational and professional experiences gained by our students will contribute to their deep story of receiving an excellent education in our City where they benefi t from the “City of Utica Advantage.” The advantage gained by living in a community that works together to nurture their intellectual, professional and personal growth.
