Bend (glide, slide) esta associado a portamento, pitch bend e glissando:

    Portamento

In music, portamento(plural:portamenti, from Italian:portamento, meaning

"carriage" or "carrying") is a pitch sliding from onenoteto another. The term

originated from theItalianexpression "portamento della voce" (carriage of the

voice), denoting from the beginning of the 1th century its use in vocal

performances!1and its emulation by members of the violin family and certain

    #ind instruments,!$and is sometimes used interchangeably #ith anticipation.!%It

is also applied to one type of glissandoas #ell as to the "glide" function

    of synthesi&ers.

    Pitch Wheel

In electronic music, a pitch wheelis a control on a synthesi&erto pitch

bend(portamento) ' to vary the pitch in a continuously variable manner.

    The first synthesi&er #ith a pitch #heel #as the inimoog, in 1*.

+lternatively, pitch bend controllers on synthesi&ers may have appearance of

    oystic-, -nob, or ribbon.

In the II specification, the pitch #heel may send 1/,%0 possible variation

values. The 2eneral IIspecification recommends that the total range be 3$

    semitones,!1though this 4itch 5heel 6ange (or 7ensitivity) can be adusted

    using 2eneral idi 6egistered 4arameter 8umber *, *.

    Glissando

    2lissando notation

In music, a glissando! lis sando (plural: glissandi, abbreviated gliss.) isa glidefrom one pitchto another. It is an Italiani&ed musical termderived from

the 9rench glisser, to glide. In some contexts it is distinguished fromthe continuousportamento. 7ome collouial euivalentsare slide, sweep(referring to the ;discrete glissando; effects on guitar < harprespectively), bend, smear, rip(for a loud, violent gliss to the beginning of anote),!1!verification neededlip(in a&& terminology, #hen executed by changing

or falling hail(a glissando on aharp using the bac- of the fingernails).!%

9rom the standpoint of musical acoustics and scientific terminology, someinstruments, such as slide trombones, unfretted bo#ed=string instruments, guitars played #ith slides and, of course, slide #histles, can change thefreuency of their notes continuously, #hile others, notably acoustic -eyboardinstruments, are restricted to uanti&ed (stepped) changes in pitch. (Theclavichord;s Bebungis the one exception, but that is essentially ornamentationof a single pitch, not a glide.) 7ome instruments, such as the clarinet andsaxophone, can produce a continuous pitch (freuency) change, although their

characteristic design is to provide distinct pitches.

    2lissando vs. portamento!edit

4rescriptive attempts!to distinguish the glissando from the portamentobylimiting the former to the filling in of discrete intermediate pitches on instrumentsli-e the piano, harp, and fretted stringed instruments have run up againstestablished usage!of instruments li-e the tromboneand timpani. The lattercould thus be thought of as capable of either ;glissando; or ;portamento;,depending on #hether the drum #as rolled or not. The clarinet gesture thatopens Rhapsody in Bluecould li-e#ise be thought of either #ay: it #asoriginally planned as a glissando (2ersh#in;s score labels each individual note)

but is in practice played as a portamento though described as a glissando. !>

    ;iscrete glissando;!edit

?n some instruments (e.g., piano, harp, xylophone), discrete tones are clearlyaudible #hen sliding. 9or example, on a -eyboard, a player;s fingertips can bemade to slide across the #hite -eys or over the blac- -eys, producing either a @maorscale or an 9 maorpentatonic (or their relativemodes)A or, byperforming both at once, it is possible to produce a full chromatic scale, but thisis difficult. ?n a harp, the player can slide their finger across the strings, uic-lyplaying the scale (or on pedal harp even arpeggiossuch as @==B=9=2=

+=C). 5ind, brass, and fretted=stringed=instrument players can perform anextremely rapid chromatic scale (e.g., sliding up or do#n a string uic-ly on afretted instrument).

aurice 6avel;s piece+lborada del 2raciosocontains notable piano glissandopassages in thirds executed by the right hand. !/

+rpeggio effects (li-e#ise named glissando) are also obtained by bo#ed strings(playing harmonics)and brass, especially the horn.!

    ;@ontinuous glissando; or portamento!edit

usical instruments#ith continuously variable pitchcan effect

a portamentoover a substantial range. These include unfretted stringedinstruments (such as the violin, viola, celloand double bass, and fretless
