Personal Statement
I am a confident and bright Engineering Student currently seeking graduate employment within the field of
Civil/Structural Engineering in the Leeds area however willing to relocate. During my studying I have covered key
areas such as structural engineering, geotechnical engineering and infrastructure management. I have an in depth
understanding of Auto Cad and Microsoft Project to facilitate the skills I’ve acquired as an undergraduate. These
fields have both prepared and inspired me to embark on a career in Civil Engineering, by igniting my passion and
drive to solve the problems faced by construction engineers.
Education
Leeds Metropolitan University | September 2013 – Present. - Currently completing a degree in Civil Engineering with a predicted grade of 2:1.
Hutton Grammar School | September 2005 – July 2013 GCSE:.Grades A to C: Mathematics, Additional Maths, P.E., English Language, R.E. , Biology, Physics, Chemistry, English Literature, Geography, German, I.T AS Level: Business Studies A Levels: Mathematics & Mechanics , Physics and PE
Practical Experience within Civil Engineering
Royal Preston Hospital (Estates assistant) | May 2010-October 2012 (Periodic work experience placement)
Worked within the estates department (building services and contracts department) at Lancashire
Teaching Hospital NHS foundation trust as an estates assistant, working alongside experienced engineers
and site managers.
Responsible for the structural maintenance of hospital building facilities, grounds and gardens.
Gained valuable experience from knowledgeable colleagues both on a practical level relating to Civil
Engineering but also valuable life experience of working successfully within a team of respected, skilled
and well practised colleagues.
Konnect Event Service (Scaffolding/rigging and de-rigging experience) | July 2014 (fixed term employment)
Employed at the NEC in Birmingham to assist with constructing scaffolding, lighting and rigging for
large public events.
Gained an understanding of the meticulous and diligent approach required when organising
structures that must meet safety and quality standards for public demand.
Employment History
Next plc | Warehouse and Logistics Assistant | October 2015- ongoing (Employed during term time)
Core duties include unloading deliveries and preparing stock for the shop floor.
Communicating with the shop staff to ensure high demand products are kept stocked and easily accessible.
Required to conform to high health and safety regulations.
Fast paced job requiring teamwork to meet strict deadlines and store targets. Showsec Crowd Management | Safety Steward | December 2015- On Going (Casual basis)
Provide a high standard of customer service at a range of high profile events and venues
To monitor the ingress and egress of people entering various stadiums

Recruited to support bar and restaurant services for both the Olive Press and Heathcotes Brassiere.
Duties included all aspects of high quality hospitality service, dealing with customers and having the responsibility to reconcile funds at the end of an evening as a trustworthy team member.
Mcdonalds | Crew Trainer | March 2011 – Ongoing (Employed outside of Term Time)
Sustained my marketing and administrative experience, working in a team environment.
Was chosen from a large group of employees to take on a promotion as crew leader with responsibility to train crew members and furthermore shadow the company’s floor manager. A role I relished and gained invaluable experience in leading a team.
Core duties included the responsibility for ensuring that products delivered are of a high standard within very tight time scales to provide excellent customer satisfaction.
Acquired time management skills both within my role, but also managing the requirements of my employment alongside my studies from an early age, highlighting my conscientious work ethic.
Managed small teams of crew members on a daily basis providing confidence in leading and working within teams that provided great foundation for University, and the skills I will take into my future career in Civil Engineering.
Additional Information
I have an interest in sport and keeping fit and attend a local gym throughout the week. I have travelled extensively
and have a particular interest in European cities.

Organised social and academic events for students within the Rugby Club.
Liaised with proprietors of social venues in order to facilitate social events for the team alongside
school staff members.
Assisted staff in the organisation and representation of team members within a rugby tour to
Gibraltar highlighting my responsibility within teams and leadership skills amongst my peers for the
visit.
Captained and administered the Rugby team.
Participated in coaching of primary school children.
I have a full clean driving licence.
