Nails and Sparks: Branding
The clients are two young builders and electricians. They
felt their current brand identity was too boring, stagnant
and did not reflect the professional, young and outgoing
nature of their business. Their main business is urban
interior shop and restaurant fit-outs. I created the
wrought iron nail that sparks then returns to its original
state. The logo looks like iron. A strong and masculine
material, it is an honest construction material that does
not deform and is unchanged over time. The type stack
is fresh and modern, reflecting that they are the new
generation of builders. The business cards appear to be
branded on wood. This shows their can do attitude. If
it’s wood they have they will burn it in, they will take any
challenge head on.

1 Kilo Burrito: Lockup & Instore
The 1 Kilo Burrito Challenge is a food eating competi-
tion. Winning would get you and a friend a trip to Venice
Beach, California.
The brief was to create a device for the new promotion
the client was rolling out throughout their New Zealand
stores. It had to be clear, concise and easy to understand
while lining up instore, as well as online in the social media
material that I would create later. I have drawn inspiration
from American eating competitions, also looking at boxing
and other competitive fighting graphic styles.

Cal-Mex Taqueria: Lockup
The client identified that they needed to educate their
customers on their point of difference in the competitive
Mexican food market. We came to the conclusion that
creating a graphic device would reinforce the idea that
California Burrito is a Californian Mexican restaurant. I
created the Cal-Mex Taqueria stamp to accompany the
social media campaign and integrate it into the wallpaper
in the stores. The stamp has a young fresh vibe, the type
references sun, surf and the beach.
Chilli Metre: Instore Device
The brief was to create an easy to read and understand
Chilli meter. It had to be crazy and off the wall. The device
would be located at the point of sale. I created a sticker
that will be placed on the wall or food preparation sta-
tions so that customers can decide quickly and painlessly
on the level of heat they desire.

California Burrito: Social Media
I managed the day to day operation of The Original
California Burrito Companies Facebook. It is the central
hub for promotions, updates and customer interaction
for California Burritos New Zealand and Australian stores.
The page has been very successful for the client engag-
ing with over 5,400 fans, this number has grown steadily
during my involvement.

New Product: Point of Sale
The client had just gone through a brand evolution. They
were also releasing two new products into the market.
They decided that they would avoid the supermarket
wobblers to introduce their customers to the new
products. The brief was to create stickers that would run
on the packs for around 50,000 units. I used the strong
mascot that beehive has developed over the decades of
business, looking fresh after its recent make-over.

Business Cards: Brand Evolution
The client was in the process of brand evolution and their
stationary needed updating and modernising. Using the
new design elements such as the paper texture and the
natural honey, I created a type stack that can easily have
the clients name and job title changed and still hold its
form. It is clean, modern and visually expresses the new
brand voice of Premier Beehive, craft and heritage.
Copy Writing: Brand Evolution
Premier Beehive’s website was being re-designed to
reflect the brands new tone of voice. The brief was to
write the copy for their product range. It had to show the
craft and heritage of the brand. It also had to describe the
natural way the meats were prepared and the connection
that Premier Beehive had to Carterton and New Zealand.

Streaky BaconBeehive streaky, when grilled, is the crispiest bacon in New Zealand. We’ve also launched a shaved version for those of us who need even more crunch. Cut from the belly, (renowned for its great flavours and infamous Moorish qualities), streaky bacon is great in salads, pasta and even in the lunchboxes of our team down at the factory. Staying true to our traditional recipe we have not added Soy or MSG and it is 100% gluten free.
Short Cut BaconPerfect for eggs Benedict, our Short Cut Bacon has been hand-picked from premium meat. The cut is taken from the middle to include the loin and a tasty little piece of the belly for added flavor and crunch. It is crafted using our traditional techniques; We smoke it with real wood and cure it with honey from the Canterbury plains. As with all our bacons, we have not compromised our recipe by adding Soy and MSG and it’s proudly gluten free.

Ehouse: Layout
Ehouse is a property marketing agency based in London.
There I worked with clients and printers to deliver high
quality marketing collateral quickly and effciently. Working
with the clients I created bespoke brochures, flyers and
mailers for property throughout the UK. As part of the
design team I would alternate between layout and
photo retouching.
My role as Repro Specialist also ment I had to work with
printers to deliver a high quality product to the client
on Litho and Digital presses, gather quotes and get the
artwork print ready.

Ideas In Transit: Illustration
The idea behind this was to take the sketches and stories
created while commuting, explore the ideas and come
to a final solution. It showcases character design, story
telling and idea generation. The bus number, route and
other information is also available on the mini posters.

Typeface Design: Mayday
FF Mayday is a san serif typeface. A main focus of the
typeface is the x height of the letters. These create
dynamic change between letter forms. The typeface has
a heavy weight to it. Bold and void of thick and thins, the
curves created at the x height create movement and
a flow to the typeface. The specimen poster has been
taken to show a juxtaposition of the empty abyss of the
poster to the warmth and community of the city.

Thai Street Food: Recipe Book
Thai Street Food is a recipe book inspired by the fast paced nature of Thailand’s street food culture. It is a modern cookbook and has been created to celebrate the food. The layout alternates sides that the Images of the dishes are on. This creates dynamic interest and reflects the energy of life in fast-paced Thailand.

Gordon’s Sauce: Packaging
The concept was to create a kiwi pack of sauces that can be easily transported and placed on a table at a BBQ.. Motifs representing flavour have been used on the front of the bottle, as well as a colour related to the different flavours. The tops of the labels have been treated with a burnt texture and die line, showing the smokey flavours and also the nature of BBQing. The caps have been dipped in wax to compete in a boutique market and cre-ate an honest and reputable feeling for the brand.
