THINGS TO KNOW...THE GAME Bemidji State University football closes out the 2019 regular season Sat-urday, Nov. 16 with a 1 p.m. kickoff at Minot State University in Minot, N.D. The Beaver Bash moves into its 21st year with annual meetings between the two programs dating back to 1999.

THE SERIES TheserieshasbeensteadilyinthehandsofBemidjiStatesincethefirstmeeting Sept. 4, 1999 with Minot State only winning one of the 20 all-time meet-ings.The Beavers of BSU have won 16 straight games over the Beavers of MiSU, including a 69-7 win Nov. 10 of last season for is largest margin of victory of the series. The only win by Minot State came Sept. 7, 2002, a 35-28 victory of Bemi-dji State in Bemidji, Minn. Bolte, in his fourth season as BSU’s head coach, is 31-13 since taking the reins of the program. His 31 wins since 2016 are tied for the most over a four year span in program history. Bolte has elevated BSU’s “Gang Green” defense since joining the program 20 years ago and has helped the unit rank among the top three of the conference in turnovers every season as head coach.

THE TEAMSBemidji State: The Beavers’ “Gang Green” defense shut out Minnesota State University Moorhead in the second half of the Battle Axe trophy game to guide the team toa28-24win.BSUwent intohalftime facinga24-21deficit afterleading 14-0 in the second quarter. The Dragons scored touchdowns on three straightdrivesfollowingthatpointbeforetackingonafieldgoaltoendthefirsthalf.BSUblockedaMSUMfieldgoaltoopenthesecondhalfandforcedfourpunts and two turnovers before holding off a last-minute drive by the Dragons toendthegame.BemidjiStatehasnowwonthreeofthelastfiveagainstMSUMoorhead and continued a streak of six straight games in which the road team in the series was victorious. Sophomore running back Jalen Frye continued his impactful season with acareer-high208rushingyardson47carries,thefirst200-yardrushinggamefor a Beaver since Avery Walker in 2013. Frye averaged 4.4 yards per carry and added an 18-yard touchdown to put BSU ahead, 21-7, midway through the second quarter. Junior quarterback Emmett Enright completed 13-of-26 passes for 169 yards with three touchdowns, including scoring passes to junior wide receiver Malik Williams twice and sophomore wide receiver Brendan Beaulieu. Williams led BSU with 92 receiving yards on six catches while Beaulieu added 64 yards on six receptions. Enright’s 16-yard connection to Williams with 6:33 in the third quarter proved to be the game-winner. Sophomore linebacker Yaquub Mohamed led the “Gang Green” defense with10tackles,2.0tacklesforalossand1.0sack,asthedefensiveunitfin-ished the game with 6.0 total sacks against MSUM. All 10 of Mohamed’s tackles came unassisted while senior linebacker Lukas Ruoss followed with six tackles andpickeduphisfirstcareerinterception.SeniordefensivebackMichaelJunk-eralsorecordedaninterceptiononthefirstMSUMdriveofthegame,addingto his career total with 15 that ranks second at BSU all-time. The Beavers also came up with a fumble recovery as senior defensive end Alex Hoffman recorded a sack that led to a recovery by junior defensive end James Moe.

Minot State: The Beavers lost their third straight and the fourth overall in NSIC North Division play following a 31-19 decision at St. Cloud State University. MiSUwentaheadlateinthefirstquarterwithashorttouchdownrushbeforeafieldgoalinthesecondquarterforitsfinalleadofthegame.St.CloudStateadded two second quarter touchdowns to go into halftime with a 17-10 lead and eventually took a 31-13 advantage late in the fourth quarter. Sophomore quarterback Sean Kuenzinger threw for 152 yards on 15-of-21 passing with one touchdown and two interceptions. Senior wide receiver Lavante Bushnellledtheteamwithfivecatchesfor59yardswhilefreshmanrunningbackAli Mohamed accounted for both of MiSU’s touchdowns, one on the ground and one through the air. Senior defensive back Geordie McDougall led the defense with seven tackles with one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. The Beavers rank 13th in scoring offense (17.8) and 13th in scoring de-fense (34.3) while coming in 15th in total offense (299.4 ypg) and 16th in total defense (478.0 ypg). Minot State’s rushing attack is among the top half of the conference, ranking seventh with 147.7 rushing yards per game.

With one more win, this senior class will set the record for most games won in a four-season span in program history.• All nine of MSUM’s punts were three-and-outs.• The road team has won the last six games in the series between BSU and MSUM.• In the last three games at Moorhead, BSU has shut out MSUM inthesecondhalftwiceandinthefirsthalfonce.• Over the last two weeks against St. Cloud State and MSU Moor-head, Bemidji State has forced 16 total three-and-outs. His 6.4 receptions per game ranks 16th in the NCAA DII and second in the conference, and is the third most for a Beaver all-time in a single season.• Sophomore wide receiver Brendan Beaulieu needs one catch to also reach the 50-reception mark, which would make him and Williams the first Beaver pass-catching duowith 50 receptionseach in a season since Mike Nordyke (69) and Adam Noble (50) in 2004.• Senior defensive back Michael Junker recorded his 15th career interception Saturday and now has six picks in back-to-back sea-sons. He ranks tied for 11th nationally and leads the NSIC with six interceptions this season. Junker currently holds the BSU career record for most interception return yardage and has the most passes defended (41) since at least 2007. He has 16 passes defended this season, which leads the NSIC.• The Beavers continued its success in the NSIC North Division under HC Brent Bolte, moving to 21-6 in the division since he took over in 2016.• The “Gang Green” defense ranks fourth in the nation with a .560 red zone defense percentage, allowing just 14 scores on 25 trips.• Nationally, BSU ranks among the top 15 in fourth-down conversion percentage (7th, .720), third-down conversion defense (10th, .286)andteampassingefficiencydefense(15th,100.5).• Bemidji State has averaged 37.7 points per game in the series against Minot State while allowing just 12.4 points per game. ABERDEEN, S.D. (Swisher Field) -- Both sides of the ball excelled for the Bemidji State University football program Thursday night as the team took a 33-7 win to open the 2019 season. Freshman quarterback Brandon Alt led the offense with four passing touchdowns while the“GangGreen”defenseforcedfourturnoverstoflirtwith a shutout in Aberdeen, S.D. TheBeaverscommandedthefieldontheirfirstdriveof the game, going 80 yards on 10 plays that ended with an 18-yard touchdown pass from freshman quarterback Brandon Alt to sophomore tight end Bryce Duffy. Duffy caughtthepassinthemiddleofthefieldona4th-and-5play to put BSU ahead, 7-0. The “Gang Green” defense took the offense’s lead andopeneditsfirsttwodriveswithinterceptionsthatwere both returned into the red zone. Junior linebacker GabeAmessnaggedthefirstinterceptionwitha46-yardreturn to set up a 3-yard touchdown rush by sophomore running back Jalen Frye before senior defensive back Michael Junker recorded his 10th career interception for areturnof49yards.Junker’sinterceptionledtoafive-yard touchdown reception by junior wide receiver Malik Williams to give Bemidji State a 19-0 lead near the end of thefirstquarter. Although Bemidji State was clicking on all cylinders duringthefirstquarter,theteamstalledinthesecondafter punting three times and giving away one fumble to head into halftime with the same lead. BSU led NSU in

passing yards, 119-70, with 13.2 yards per reception and total yards, 150-115, with 5.8 yards per play. Alt and the BSU offense found its stride again in the third quarter while adding two passing touchdowns, the firsttoWilliamsfor12yardsandhissecondofthegame,and the second to freshman wide receiver DJ Johnson for13yardsandhisfirstofhiscareer.Alt’sfourthtouch-down pass of the game pushed BSU’s lead to 33-0 while the “Gang Green” defense held NSU scoreless through thefirstthreequarters. Altfinishedwith192passingyardsandbecamethefirstBSUquarterbacktothrowfourtouchdownsintheseason opener since Lance Rongstad in 2012. He com-pleted 60.0 percent of his throws with an average of 12.8 yards per completion. Williams led the receiving corps with eight catches for 64 yards and two touchdowns, while sophomore wide receiver Brendan Beaulieu caught twopassesfor71yardsinthefirsthalf.Fryerantheball18 times for 72 yards and one touchdown, averaging 4.0 yards per carry. Sophomore linebacker Zollie Kaplan led the defense with seven tackles and 1.0 sack while Ames, senior linebacker and freshman defensive back Keontay Shorter each followed with six tackles. Ames, Junker and junior defensive back Jashon Roundtree each recorded an interception while Beaulieu recovered a fumble on the opening kickoff of the second half. Junker’s interception puts the team captain in a tie for eighth all-time at BSU.

(Chet Anderson Stadium) – In rainy conditions at Chet Anderson Stadium Thursday night, the Bemidji State University football program shined in all phases of the game to cruise to a 52-7 win during its home opener against University of Mary. Senior quarterback Jared Henning threw for a career-high four touchdowns while the “Gang Green” defense forced three turnovers and four sacks. Bemidji State’s victory was the third highest-margin against UMary in the series history and the ninth time under head coach Brent Bolte that it has scored at least 50 points. TheBeaversjumpedouttoa14-0leadonitsfirsttwo offensive possessions of the game, as sophomore running back Sherrod Kpahn punched in a two-yard score followed by a 15-yard touchdown reception by sophomore tight end Bryce Duffy. Henning and Duffy connected for the second time on the night following a fumble recovery on a punt that was touched by a Marauder early in the second quarter. Senior defensive back Michael Junker added his second interception in as many games this season on UMary’s ensuing offensive possession, taking it back 38 yards for a touchdown. (Ed Widseth Field) -- Sophomore running back Jalen Frye and senior quarterback Jared Henning each rushed for over 100 yards to help the Bemidji State University football program to a 27-10 win at University of Minnesota Crookston Saturday afternoon. Fryefinishedwith108rushingyardsandtworushingtouchdowns while senior quarterback Jared Henning ran for 135 yards and one touchdown and threw one passing score. The “Gang Green” defense forced four interceptions and six sacks while shutting out the Golden Eagles in the second half. Junior linebacker Gabe Ames totaled three sacks,thefirstBeaverwiththreesacksinagamesince2011 while senior defensive lineman Alex Hoffman led the unit with eight tackles. The Beavers nabbed an interception on the Golden Eagles’firstandsecondpossessions,whichledtoHenning’stwotouchdownsinthegame.Hefirstfoundsophomore wide receiver Brendan Beaulieu for 24 yards followed by an 11-yard rush by Henning to put BSU aheadlateinthefirstquarter,14-0.

(Chet Anderson Stadium) -- Sopho-more running back Jalen Frye recorded his second straight 100-yard rushing game for the Bemidji State University football program Saturday afternoon despite a 42-7 loss to No. 13 University of Minnesota Duluth. Frye carried the call 28 times for 117 yards with BSU’s lone touchdownbutfiveturnoversledtotheteam’sfirstlossof the season. Frye rushed for 34 yards on the opening drive, including a four-yard touchdown to put BSU ahead, 7-0. The “Gang Green” defense continued to shutout its op-ponentsinthefirstquarterfortheseason,butBSU’sfirstturnover led to a 34-yard touchdown pass by UMD to tie the game before halftime. The Bulldogs scored touchdowns on three of their firstfiveoffensivepossessionstostartthesecondhalfand added touchdowns on a blocked punt return and an interception return.

Frye averaged 4.2 yards per carry for the Beavers followed by freshman Makaio Harn with 44 rushing yards on 11 carries. Sophomore quarterback Emmett Enright steppedundercenterandfinishedwith68passingyards,35 yards going to senior wide receiver Jake Anderson on two catches and 32 yards going to junior wide receiver Malik Williams on four catches. (Chet Anderson Stadium) -- Down by seven points with 74 seconds to play, third-string quarterback Emmett Enright directed the Bemidji State University football team 95 yards and made good on a two-point conversion attempt to earn a 21-20 victory in the Beavers’ 2019 Homecoming game. The victory extended BSU’s Homecoming winning streak to 10 games and earned the 2019 roster a swim in Lake Bemidji. From the outset the day seemed to be tilted in BSU’s favor. The Beavers won the coin toss, received the opening kickoff and methodically assembled a 70-yard drive capped byaMasonHoffer22-yardfieldgoaltotakea3-0lead.Thedrivechewedup10:23secondsofthefirstquarter. The Bemidji State “Gang Green” defense forced the Vikings into a three-and-out to get the ball back just mo-ments later. half. The Beavers again used over seven minutes on the clock,pilingupfivefirstdownsand66yardsonthedrive.Brendan Beaulieu led BSU on the drive totaling 29 rush-ing yards. (Mettke Field) -- In a familiar situation, the connection of sophomore quarterback Emmett Enright and junior wide receiver Malik Williams gave the Bemidji State University football program its secondstraightfinalminutewin,thisweekscoring25fourth-quarter points in a 25-24 victory over Southwest Minnesota State University. The Beavers trailed 24-0 heading into the fourth quarteraftercomingupemptyonitsfirsteightdrivesofthegame.Onthefinalfour,though,BSUscoredfourtouchdowns highlighted by an 8-play, 61-yard drive that started with 1:38 remaining in the game. Enright completed three passes for 54 yards while BSUwasassistedbytwoSMSUpenaltiesonthefinaldrive, including an offside call on 4th and 13. On the ensuing 4th down play, Enright stood in the pocket with pressurecomingbeforefindingWilliamsinthebackofthe end zone for the game-winning 27-yard touchdown. Just 10 minutes earlier, Southwest Minnesota State hadkickedafieldgoaltogoahead,24-0,earlyinthefourth quarter. The comeback began then as Enright found Williams on three straight receptions before a touchdown pass to sophomore wide receiver Brendan Beaulieu from 16 yards out, putting BSU on the board, 24-6. After a failed two-point conversion, senior defensive back Michael Junker was able to recover an onside kick to set up another 60+ yard drive. Enright again went to work in the pocket, completing fivepassesthatsetupatwo-yardrushingtouchdownby Beaulieu to bring BSU within 11 points, 24-13. After

failing to recover another onside kick, the “Gang Green” defense held SMSU to a three-and-out for the second time in the game to give the ball back to the offense at their own 23-yard-line. Forthethirdstraighttime,BSUdrovethefieldbehindfour passes from Enright. Sophomore running back Jalen Frye capped the 77-yard drive with a one-yard touch-down run to bring the Beavers to within one score, 24-19. The “Gang Green” defense again stood strong with 2:43 to play and forced SMSU to four plays and a turnover on downsona4th-and-threecalltogoforthefirstdown,setting up the game-winning drive by BSU. Bemidji State outgained Southwest Minnesota State through the game, 464-391, although the Mustangs had controloftherunninggamethroughthefirsthalf.TheBeaversfinishedwith318passingyardsand146rushingyards compared to 198 passing and 193 rushing yards for the Mustangs. Enrightfinishedthegame26-of-43fromthepocketfor 318 yards and two touchdowns, while Williams becamethefirstBeavertorecordatleast10receptionsin a game since 2015. Williams caught 11 passes for 113 yards while Beaulieu recorded eight catches for 110 yards. Frye led the rushing attack with 93 yards on 21 carries. Sophomore defensive back Gunnar Feldhege paced the “Gang Green” defense with 12 tackles, the most for a Beaver since junior linebacker Gabe Ames late last season. Senior linebacker Lukas Ruoss added 10 tackles with 2.0 tackles for a loss.

(Chet Anderson Stadium) – Despite career days from sophomore running back Jalen Frye and senior defensive back Michael Junker, the Bemidji State University football team fell in a turnover-heavy game to Winona State University Saturday afternoon, 27-14. Frye ran for a career-high 179 yards and two touchdowns while Junker tied his single-game-best with two interceptions as the Beavers fall to 5-2 overall on the season. BemidjiStatethrewfiveinterceptionsontheday,threeofwhichcameonWSU’ssideofthefield,thatledto10WinonaStatepoints.Thefinalinterceptionoftheday set up a 32-yard touchdown drive by the Warriors midway through the fourth quarter to extend their lead by two scores. Frye accounted for both of BSU’s touchdowns out of thewildcatformation,thefirstcomingfrom11yardsandthe second from 17. His scores came on BSU’s longest possessions of the game, capping an 11-play, 89-yard drivetotiethegame,7-7,midwaythroughthefirstquar-ter and a 9-play, 83-yard drive to bring BSU within one score of WSU early in the fourth. The “Gang Green” defense limited the Winona State offensethroughthefirsthalf,onlyallowingscoresontheopeningdriveandafieldgoalbeforea10-7halftime

deficit.AftertheWarriorsweresetupattheBSU31-yardline following an interception midway through the third quarter,theBeaversdefenseheldthemtoa25-yardfieldgoal. The BSU offense struggled on its next two drives with three-and-outs, with a 57-yard WSU touchdown drive in between, before Frye’s second touchdown of the game to bring the Beavers within six points, 20-14. Unlike the last two games, the Beavers were not able to create magicforafinal-quartercomebackafteraneartouch-down on 4th-and-7 with 3:17 to play. Junior wide receiver Malik Williams recorded his sec-ond straight game with double-digit receptions, totaling a team-high 11 with 66 yards. Sophomore wide receiver Brendan Beaulieu caught six passes for a team-best 104 yards, averaging 17.3 yards per reception. Senior defensive lineman Alex Hoffman led the “Gang Green” with a career-high 10 total tackles, four tackles for a loss, and two sacks. Joining Junker with nine tackles was senior linebacker Lukas Ruoss while sophomore defensive back Gunnar Feldhege and fresh-man defensive back Keontay Shorter added eight tackles each.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (Sea Foam Stadium) -- Sophomore running back Jalen Frye ran for his second straight 150-yard game despite a 24-23 loss in overtime by the Bemidji State University football program at Concordia University-St. Paul. Frye ran 46 times on the day while the Beavers failed on a two-point conversion after a fourth-downtouchdownpassinthefirstovertimeperiod. After entering the season with just 16 points allowed inthefirstquarter,BemidjiStatefounditselfina10-0def-icitafterConcordia-St.Paulscoredonitsfirsttwodrivesof the game. The Beavers answered on the ensuing drive withasix-play,70-yarddrivethatendedwithafive-yardtouchdown pass from junior quarterback Emmett Enright to junior wide receiver Malik Williams. Williams set up BSU on the drive with a 51-yard rush. The Golden Bears scored another touchdown before halftime but the “Gang Green” defense limited them in the second half with a shutout. On seven second-half possessions, CSP was held to three punts, two missed fieldgoals,oneinterceptionbysophomoredefensiveback Gunnar Feldhege and one fumble recovered by senior defensive lineman Alex Hoffman. BEMIDJI, Minn. (Chet Anderson Stadium) -- The Bemi-dji State University football team exploded on offense to send the seniors off with a 38-14 win over St. Cloud State University Saturday afternoon at Chet Anderson Stadium. Junior quarterback Emmett Enright threw for a career-high 435 yards with three touchdowns while sophomore receiver Brendan Beaulieu caught a career-high 11 receptions for 177 yards and one touchdown to move the Beavers to 6-3 overall. TheBeaversfinishedwith575offensiveyards,435through the air and 140 on the ground, while the “Gang Green” defense allowed just 315 to the Huskies. BSU forced SCSU to go 18-of-50 passing after taking a 17-0 lead into halftime. Junior kicker Mason Hoffer connected on a 32-yard fieldgoaltoputBSUaheadfirst,3-0,fortheonlypointsscoredinthefirstquarter.FreshmanrunningbackMakaioHarnpushedinhisfirstoftwotouchdownsmidway through the second quarter before Enright found sophomore tight end Bryce Duffy on an 18-yard touch-down pass just before halftime to extend the team’s lead, 17-0.

Harn put together back-to-back runs for 39 yards early in the third quarter, the latter going in for his second touchdown and a 24-0 lead. The Huskies got on the board following a seven-play, 62-yard drive that was capped by a 25-yard touchdown pass. The Beavers answered back two drives after as Enright stepped intoaclosingpockettofindsophomorereceiverDhelDuncan-Busby for a 53-yard score. Beaulieu capped off BSU’sscoringonthefirstplayofthefourthquarterwitha21-yard touchdown catch, his 11th reception of the day to put the Beavers ahead, 38-8. (Nemzek Stadium) -- A combined effort of an offensive rushing attack and a stout second-half defense helped secure a 28-24 win by Bemidji State University football over Minnesota State University Moor-head to regain possession of the Battle Axe traveling trophy. Sophomore running back Jalen Frye ran for over 200 yards while sophomore linebacker Yaquub Mohamed led the BSU defense with 10 tackles. TheBeaversstartedandfinishedthegamestrongwhile taking a 14-0 lead in the second quarter and shuttingouttheDragonsforthefinal30minutesofplay.Overthefinalhalf,BSUforcedMSUMtofourpunts,twoturnovers,amissedfieldgoalandfinishedthegameby holding off a last-minute drive by the Dragons. MSU Moorheadhad81yardsoverthefinal1:29ofplay,drivingto the BSU nine yard line, while an incomplete pass in the end zone ended the game. BSUeitherscoredorhadachancetoscoreonfiveofitsfirstsevenpossessions,adding21pointsontwopassing touchdowns from junior quarterback Emmett Enright, one to junior wide receiver Malik Williams for 63 yards and one to sophomore wide receiver Brendan Beaulieu for seven yards, and one rushing touchdown by Fryewithtwomissedfieldgoalsinbetween. Prior to Frye’s 18-yard rushing score, MSU Moorheadfinallyfoundthescoreboardona71-yardtouchdown reception early in the second quarter. MSUM

added two more touchdowns of at least 50 yards before going into halftime with a 24-21 lead. Frye ended the half with141rushingyardsandfinishedwithacareer-high208 yards on the day. Enright found Williams again, this time from 16 yards out, midway through the third quarter totallythefinalpointsofthegame. FryebecamethefirstBeaverwithatleast200yardsrushing in a game since Avery Walker did so in 2013. His 47 carries is also one shy of the program single-game record set by Eddie Acosta in 2003. Frye is now 67 yards shy of earning a spot on the BSU top ten list for rushing yards all-time. Enrightfinishedthegame13-of-26passingfor169yards and three touchdowns while Williams and Beaulieu led the receiving corps with six receptions each. Williams totaled 92 receiving yards compared to 64 for Beaulieu. On the defense, senior defensive back Michael Junker and senior linebacker Lukas Ruoss each record-ed an interception. Junker now has six on the season to lead the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and 15 interceptions during his career. BSU totaled six sacks against MSUM, all coming from separate Beavers. Ruoss followed Mohamed with six tackles while junior defensive tackleJoshWlehrecordedfive. Bemidji State regained the Battle Axe trophy for the thirdtimeinthelastfiveseasons.Theroadteamwasvictorious in the series for the sixth straight season.
