Cityculture,urbanartBelém,September8thtoNovember11th2012Vicente2012bringsnewideastoembodythefoundingmythoftheidentityofLisbon.Thesecondedition of this project of urban history and culture includes an intervention at the Travessa doMartaPintobyarchitectsMOOVinpartnershipwiththeartistMiguelFaro,adrawinginstallationbyAndréGraceGomesat theErmidaNªSr ªdaConceiçãoandaprogramofwalksunder thethemeofRomanticism,theactors/performersNelsonGuerreiroandJoãoAbel.FromSeptembertoNovember2012,Belémbringsintoexistenceoneofthemostunknownstoriesofouridentity,givingnewnuancestotheeternalvaluesofVICENTE.Vicente–urbancultureprojectTheprojectVicentebeganin2011withaseriesoforiginalpublicartinstallations(JanaMatejkova,AndrewCane,JohnRibeiro+CarolePurnelle&NunoMaya),aninstallationattheErmidaN.ªSr.ªda Conceição (Simeon Nelson), a Jewellery project (Alexandra Corte‐Real), the publishing of areference publication on the Myth (José Sarmento Matos, Pedro Gadanho, Nelson Guerreiro,MárioCaeiro,JanaMatejkova,AndréBanha,JoãoRibeiro+CarolePurnelle&NunoMaya,SimeonNelson, Alexandra Corte‐Real) and a program of situationist walks (Nelson Guerreiro and JoãoAbel).Researching through thewealth of theVincentianmyth, following up in 2012 toVicente is acommitmenttocontinuityandsuccessoftheurbanandculturalconceptwhichgavetheLisbonRavens and theMythof SaintVincentnew colours and contemporarymeanings. The projectproposesacreativeandentrepreneurialofthecity’simagination,underthemottoReviewingisbelieving...themythisneverblackandwhite.In2012,theparticipatingartists‐MOOVandMiguelFarointhepublicspace,AndréGraçaGomesin the former Chapel, Alexandra Corte‐Real in the Jewellery shop andNelsonGuerreiro& JoãoAbelonthewalks‐accountforitscharacterandingenuity,allmakingartintoagameofunusualtransfigurations. Able to express their imagination using the most perishable and commonmaterials,butalwayswithasenseofscaleandcommunicationwiththepublic,thesecreatorswillmeettheprinciplesoftheProjectTravessadaErmida:showingBelémandLisbonwithanewsetofeyes;while,atthesametime,risingonthewingsofVicente,wecatchaglimpseofutopiaonthehorizon.Vicente,artandcity–theprogramThisprogramestablishesacommitmentoftheProjectTravessadaErmidatothe identityofthecity of Lisbon, and the area of Belém in particular. In a context of greater budget restraintVicenteplaces a bet on executive partnerships, on institutional mutual help and collaborativecreation.With this inmind the investment in public art, in experimental actions that value ourculture, as well as the walks, which contribute to civic education, seek to suggest original

strategiesofinnovation.TheinterestoftheProjectisnotlimitedtothefieldofartanddesign,itexpands to transverse issues that are imposing today, of the deeply touristic vocation of ourcapital, interdependentofthespiritualrenewalthat isrequired intimesofcrisis.VicentemeetswithavocationofLisbonitneverhurtstoremember.Vicente 2012 is the follow up of a philosophy of original and structured programming by theProjectTravessadaErmidasince2008,which isremarkableinacontextofcontinuouschangeintheculturalworld inPortugal. It is thisstabilitythat, in itssmallscale,willachievethetargetofanothereditionofthisprojectwhichistoestablishafamiliarityofthepublicwiththisVicente.Allthecolours,shapes,symbols,narrativesandarguments,presentintheseVicentes,re‐establishtherenewingsymbolinthecollectivememory(fromwhereithadbeenremoved).ItisthiscommitmenttocontinuityandsuccessoftheconceptthatgivestheravensofLisbonandtheMythofVicentenewcoloursandcontemporarymeanings,aswellasanotherfunction‐morecreativeandentrepreneurial–inthecity’simagination.Vicente–FoliosIncollaborationwiththesealof thePalavrãoproject,asinglenewspaper‐magazine issuewillbecreated that complements the previous edition (Vicente ‐ Resonances of a Myth). A revisitation of the sensitivity of Schiller through Spaziergang(walk)around the city, can nolongerbemadeinsuchanaivelyromanticway,butwillpassthisheritageoftheWalkasaspaceof subjectivation and deepening of consciousness in the encounterwithNature and theWholeUniverse. But if for themanof the Romantic the need to re‐establish as a humanbeingwouldhave its foundation inNature, soas to reach itsessenceof freedom from the human, the trueexpressionoffeeling,oftheintimateIthatseekstranscendence‐andisourmodernman’sdreamnot,initsgreaterpart.,thegerminationofthehopedindividualizationoftheRomantic?‐Itseemsthatforthecontemporarymanapossiblenewwayofromanticredemptionwouldbethroughthereunion no just Mother Nature, but above all with his own human nature. A kind ofphenomenologicalreductionofwhatitmeanstobehuman,this,walkingbringsustogether.In this perspective a text will come from the pen, ballpoint pen and pad of Nelson Guerreiro,where the exhaustion of that inner self and not‐fully‐accepted‐bourgeois, great grandson ofSchiller,isconfrontedwiththesimplicityoflisteningtohisownconditionandnature,asopposedtoanantagonisticsplitbetweenlifeandidealization.Amongthewrittenwords,witnessesofmyvoicethatsignsasNelsonGuerreiro,andthematerialtexture of the body given to see and feel or to sense by performer João Abel, a dialogue‐confrontationwillbeestablished:apresenceofsilenceinspace,atextunmatchedbythebody,anon‐perceivedsynchronicitybetweentwobodies.Inbetween,theremaybeabodywhoseactioncollideswiththesocialrolethatisexpectedofit,byalteringthetemporalperceptionandthroughthe introspectionofgesture,andavoiceofthedialecticbetweentheclosureofthebeing inhisown inner self dream and the social, philosophical and eschatological response to humancondition.Basedonthetextthatgoesinsearchofwitnessingwhatnormallycanonlybeimagined,that is,thewriterwillriskhislife,whiletheperformerwillchallengehimselfwithoutanylimitstoenableboth to make a journey through intimacy, hopefully through elective affinities ‐ powered byGoethe– i.e.,withnocalculatingantecedentsandwithflushed innocence.Wewillwaitandseewhattimewillbring...Vicente–thenameVicente is the name of the city's patron saint, whose martyred body sailed into the TagusaccompaniedbytwohoveringravenssinceSagres.Tothisday,thecoatofarmsofLisbonremindsus of the legend. Vicente would also have been the name of St. Anthony’s grandfather. AndVicenteisthenameinvariablygiventocrowsthatinhabitedLisbon’severydaylife,attheentranceoftavernsandgrocerystores.Vicente is the nameof a character in the literary project by José Sarmento deMatos,whohasinventedLisbonthroughthisfigure,guidingusthroughthetimelesslyreveriesofmemory.Vicenteistheonewhowins.Andnow,Vicenteisalsothenameoftheproject.Memory,myth,creativity,future,Vicenteisthebeatofunrest.

AndréGraçaGomesMatrizMatrizisthenameoftheexhibitionthatAndréGomesGraceintendstopresentattheErmidadaNossaSr.ªdaConceiçãoinBelém.Aseriesofcharcoaldrawingsrunacrosstheceilingofthenaveofthechapel.Thedrawingsareinspiredbystories,facts,images,events,feelings.Matrizbecauseitiswhatgenerates,thestartingpoint,thefirstdrawing.InthesacrumofthespaceoftheErmida,transformed into a modern 'Sistine Chapel', VICENTE’s symbols and narratives performativelycome to life, depending on the look of each viewer. The chapel is transformed into a set ofmirrors where the representations of the created characters dwell somewhere between thefrescoesof thechurchof St. Francis inAssisibyGiottoand the realand illusorymemories thatinhabittheimaginationoftheartist.AndréGraçaGomesgraduatedinPaintingfromESAD.cr.Hisfirst individual showwas held in 2011, at the Library of FCT‐UNL in the Caparica Campus. TheinstallationMatrizwillbeentirelymadeinsidetheErmida,duringa20dayresidence.

MOOV+MiguelFaroLongStreetsforShortStoriesLongStreetsforShortStoriesisanartistic interventionwhereanumberofaccountsinhabitsthepublic space and involves passersby along the entire length of the street, from the followingphrases exhibiting a two‐way fragmented history read. Among texts, paintings, drying clothes,stencil,goingappearsasdifferentfromcoming.VICENTE’snarrativebecomesfriendlyineverydaylife of an experimental public space, by the hand of a collective of architects‐artist (s) alwayssurprisinginaplayfulwayofinterpretingtheircriticalroleinthecity.The'high'and'low'culture,betweenarchitectureandstreetart,seemwovenasavernacular'largerthanlife'mise‐en‐scène.Short Stories for Long Streetswas assumed from the outset as an open series.With each newpresentation‐thepiecewaspremieredinTallinn,Estoniainthewinterof2008,afterhavingbeenshowninRigain2010‐thesameconceptualmatrixfulfilsalogicofsitespecificappropriatenesstoeach new context. In Belém, the Travessa do Marta Pinto has an intensely human scale andenvironment,which leads to the interventionacquiringa characterofproximityand interactionthathavenothadpreviouspresentations.MOOV(AntónioLouro, JoãoCalhaueJoséNiza) isanartanddesignstudiobased inLisbonandactivesince2003.Theirnon‐disciplinaryapproachseekstoexplorenewfieldsofactivitygeneratedbytheintersectionofarchitecturewithotherareasofknowledge,whethercreativeortechnical.MiguelFaroisaplasticartist,havingrecentlyparticipatedinseveralgroupexhibitions.

Chronicle‐fiction. Pedro Malaquias is the voice of ANTENA 2 who every morning of the weekbringsacriticalreadingofnewspaperstothousandsoflisteners.Hisabilitytoromanticizethefait‐diverswhileinsinuatingethicalquestionsinthem,makeshimthemostinterestingchroniclewriterof our days. His distinctive voice gives a finer tone of irony to a contemporary reading of thepoliticalimplicationsofVicenteinourcollectivedestiny.

Illustration. Cabaço is the author of fabulous graphic universes, surreal scenes of meetingswitnessedby theviewer,overcomeby theoutline thedrawing, thedetailof theplots.Hereheinvestigates, in successiveapproaches,a Lisbon lost in time,almost totallyunknownand that isthenmythicallyredrawn,onewinginhistoricalreconstruction,theotherinnarrativefantasy.

In 2004, he took theopportunity tobecome theowner, with the purposeof returning it to itsformerprestige,nowasavenueofcultureandart.HehasrecentlyacquiredthespaceoftheEnotecadeBelémandtheOficinadeJoalhariaandin2008theprojectTravessadaErmidawasborn.

FábiaFernandes ProductionManagerandcoordination (Nampula,1975) Lived and worked between 1994 and 2006 in Stockholm, Sweden in the areas of Public Relations, Tourism, Hostelry, EventsProductionandManagement.Shealsoworked(intourism)andlived,twoseasons,inGreece,2002and2003,inRhodesandCrete.AfterherreturntoPortugal,in2006,sheembracedtherestaurants“ACommenda”and“AugustoGemelli”.ShefinishedherPost‐GraduationinCulturalProgrammingandManagementat theUniversidadeLusófonaintheacademicyearof2008/2009.In2008,she accepted the challenge of starting and coordinating the project Travessa da Ermida as responsible for the study, planning,developmentandpromotionof theentireproject.Currently graduating inCommunicationSciencesat theFaculdadedeCiênciasSociaiseHumanasofUniversidadeNovadeLisboa.JoséVazFernandesProduction,AssemblyandEquipmentsLisbon,1958.Anarchitecturegraduate fromESBAL(EscolaSuperiordeBelasArtesdeLisboa) in1983.Heworkedasan interninthenewurbancentreofSantoAndré,inSantiagodoCacém.Hedevelopedhisprofessionalactivityfor17yearsintheFarEast,inMacao,returningtoPortugalin2000.Sincethenhehasworkedinseveralprojectsthroughoutthecountry.In2008,heintegratedtheteamat theProjectTravessadaErmida,asaresponsible for theproduction,exhibitionassemblyandequipments,aswellasdifferentspacesbelongingtotheproject.

Working primarily with video,photographyandinstallations,heworksonidentityissues.Theuseofhisbody,itsimageandtherelationshipofbothwithdifferenttypes of states are recurrent themes. EnsembleJER–OsPlásticosdeLisboaPortuguese‐based group of artists‐musicians, created specifically in order to perform a repertoire of instrumental music andmusical theater. It employs toy instruments, special percussions, andother instruments. It was foundedand is directedby JoséEduardoRocha(JER).Sinceits inception in1990,EnsembleJERhasperformedwithverydiverseformations,andhasthrownover200performancesinPortugal,SpainandGermany.
