The Inquisition• How did it feel to be different?• Today’s topic is about being different.• Read the handout:

• After the Reconquista, the monarchs (King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella) desired a totally Christian Kingdom.

• They required all Jews to convert to Christianity and made it illegal to practice Islam.

The Inquisition• To ensure that only Christianity was

practiced, the Inquisition began.• Inquisition – (what is the root word?)

of priests that looked for and punished anyone in Spain who secretly practiced their old religion.***
