Getting a dog? Don’t count out a mutt. Mutts are often free, where purebreds can cost thousands. Also, mutts might not be as handsome as purebreds, but they’re less likely to be nervous or snappy, and best of all, a mutt doesn’t have a million copies of itself running around. A poodle is a poodle, but a mutt is one of a kind.

A jerboa looks like a little miniature kangaroo. Jerboas have long hind feet and very short forelegs. They live in the desert, where they stay in burrows during the day and hunt at night. Jerboas get their liquids from their food, so they never drink water. Jerboas are no bigger than guinea pigs, but they can hop faster than a person can run.
