From the Principal’s Desk…
Dear Families,
A short week this week. I hope everyone had a wonderful longer
weekend and that you are all feeling recharged for the busy and
exciting build up to the end of the year!
Swimming
The Prep – 2 swimming program begins next Monday 12th November.
After each lesson, the students have to get dried off and changed
very quickly before boarding the bus back to school. Hopefully you
have been practising this skill at home – ensuring your child can
independently dry off and get changed – with minimal assistance.
The Prep students will take part in a Dry Water Safety Program
(incursion) tomorrow – run by Kew Rec. This will help students
understand how to be and act around water before heading to the
pool next week.
If you are available or would like to assist during the swimming
program please let your child’s classroom teacher know, but it is also
essential that you hold a current Working With Children’s Check.
Staff Professional Learning
Curriculum Day
Staff spent Monday completing professional learning modules on
‘Disability and Diversity’, Anaphylaxis and Assessment and Reporting –
collating much needed data for not only report writing but to reflect
on the school’s 2018 Annual Implementation Plan targets.
Framework for Improving Student Outcomes – Community of Practice
This week our FISO – CoP Leaders (Carl Ward and Bryce Griesheimer)
met with the leaders from the other 3 schools in our Community of
Practice (Greythorn, Deepdene and Balwyn North Primary School).
They focussed on the reflections from staff regarding the work we
have undertaken this year on 4 of the 10 High Impact Teaching
Strategies (Questioning, Metacognitive Strategies, Multiple Exposures
and Differentiated Teaching.)
The aim of the session is to determine next steps for our CoP – with the
first day of 2019 set as a common Curriculum Day for all 4 schools.
Buildings and Grounds
So many exciting things have been happening around the school in
the last few weeks.
The working bee a few weeks ago – kick started some other works
around the yard.
Steven Davie (Noah, Abi and Charli’s dad) came in over the long
weekend and took out the fence panels along the front of the table
and bench seats in the veggie patch – meaning we can now access
and use them! He also began the task of sanding the table and seats
back (no mean feat!) – and will stain them so that they are protected
from the elements. Thank you!
He also measured up the area outside the library and BER (the grassy
square) and will draw up plans to put in a new retaining wall and

some seating so that it becomes a more usable space for the students. In the coming weeks we may
be looking for volunteers to come along and help Steven complete this job.
The Hall works (finally!) began over the long weekend. The temporary fencing was installed last Friday.
The asbestos panels from the porch (ceiling area) were removed early Monday morning (Curriculum
Day – whilst no one was on site). The renovation should begin in earnest next week.
Bentleigh Tree Care – were in all day Wednesday 7th November doing a general clean up and taking
out any ‘at risk’ trees. Peter and his team of 5 were kept busy all day – and kept our students
entertained. They loved watching Ben scale up into the trees and take down branches (all from a very
safe distance).
Leo has begun to plant more hebies outside the BER - if any of you are free on Monday or Wednesday
morning, after drop off, I am sure Leo could use the extra hands.
The grounds are looking the best they have in a long time – some of the (other) work we have had
completed in the last few weeks include: the asphalt rejuvenation; new line markings; accessible and
well maintained vegie patch; the buddy bench area (seating is almost finished and the shed itself
looks fantastic!); the planting between the BER and the Admin building; and the oval is looking lush
after being aerated and reseeded a number of times this year (the rains have been well received!).
Thank you to everyone who has assisted in the upkeep of the school – all efforts are appreciated.
Planning 2019
Thank you to those families who have informed me that their children will not be returning next year.
This does help considerably with forward planning. Thank you also to those families who have
presented to me, in writing any relevant information pertaining to the placement of their children for
the next year. I do however need to reiterate it is not a “pick your class teacher or pick your class
group” option; but rather it is an opportunity for you to provide any relevant social, emotional and
educational information that you would like the school to take into account when the class groups
are being formed.
A reminder that next Monday, November 12th, is the last day for parents to submit, in writing,
information pertaining to the planning processes for 2019. The information that has been presented to
the school is summarised and taken into consideration when teachers are forming the 2019 class
groups. Every effort is made to take into account all possible factors.
When forming classes the following criteria will be considered:
Student numbers
Mixed academic ability
Gender balance
Positive friendship groups
After the full seven years at school, children should have been grouped with many others within their
year level.
It is with this air of enthusiasm and optimism that we embark on the preparation for yet another happy
year at Belle Vue Primary School.
Dates
A reminder to keep your eye on the calendar dates, Team App alerts and classroom notices in the
lead up to the many varied, whole school and year level events that are coming up over the course
of the next few weeks. Some of which include:
2019 Prep Orientation
Grade 5/6 Enterprise
Grade 5 Leadership Speeches (for 2019 Leadership Roles)
Grade 6 Graduation
Grade 1 late stay
Grade 2 sleepover
Prep – Grade 5 Buddy Incursion
Grade 5/6 Excursion
Performance Assembly
Twilight Christmas Market
Christmas Assembly
Parent Helper Morning Tea
A very busy time, on top of normal teaching and learning programs – so we all need to be super
organised and mindful of timelines – check the website (and perhaps school bags!) for notices!

Friday Assembly – Remembrance Day
Tomorrow we will be having a special Remembrance Day assembly to commemorate
100 years since the armistice of WW1. One student from each class will share a reflection
on what Remembrance Day means to them. (Roll of Honour will take place after this)

–In line with our aim of becoming a 5 star sustainable school – at the end of term we will be going
paperless, making our Semester 2 reports available to parents through the parent portal on
Sentral. On Monday 17th September, we sent out individual letters home letters with step by step
instructions on how to log in with your unique log in code and create an access account. To
date we have only had 70 families log in. As with any change – this will take some time to process
and iron out any ‘issues’ that may arise – so we ask that you assist us by signing in as soon as
possible – and let us know of any issues you encounter along the way (although it should be fairly
simple).
Again, we will be working towards enabling parents to lodge absences and view the school
newsletter through this same portal (eventually) but we need to ensure we have everyone signed
up and access granted first.
*Reports will be available on line only – so sign in asap!
ELECTION DAY BBQ Saturday 24th November
Belle Vue Primary School will once again be used as a polling booth for the upcoming
election. This is the perfect opportunity to not only to show case our wonderful school,
but do some easy fundraising– (and put back into our gardening budget!!)
If you are able to assist on the day– either as a chef (cook the bbq!), manning the cake/icy
pole stall, baking for the cake stall, coming along to vote etc the P&F would be
most appreciative.
An hour of your time – is all we ask. Sign up sheets will go up in the front office – so
please come and support your school!
